Abstract Background: Coagulation factor XI deficiency is an autosomal recessive hereditary disease with a low incidence. It usually occurs after surgery or trauma; Esophageal cancer is a common malignant tumor of the digestive tract in China. But so far, surgery-based comprehensive treatment of esophageal cancer still dominates.
Case presentation: We report a case of an Asian patient with XI factor deficiency and lower esophageal squamous cell carcinoma who was admitted to our hospital recently. After active preoperative preparation, the operation was successfully performed, and there was no obvious abnormal bleeding during and after the operation.
Conclusions: Coagulation factor XI deficiency is a relatively rare disease, and patients with the disease will face a greater risk of bleeding during the perioperative period. The encouraging perioperative outcome enables us to have a deeper understanding of surgical treatment strategies for patients with Coagulation factor XI deficiency.

Abstract Anticoagulation therapy stands as a key treatment for thrombotic diseases. The consequential bleeding risk tied to existing anticoagulation methods significantly impacts patient prognosis. In the intensive care unit (ICU), patients often necessitate organ support, leading to the inevitable placement of artificial devices in blood vessels, thereby requiring anticoagulation treatment to avert clot formation that might impede organ support. Nevertheless, these patients commonly encounter a heightened risk of bleeding. Hemophilia B, identified in 1953, manifests as a deficiency in coagulation factor XI (FXI), which focused people's perspective on the endogenous coagulation pathway, that is, the contact pathway. Upon interaction between the surface of artificial devices and FXII, FXII activates, subsequently triggering FXI and initiating the "coagulation cascade" within the contact pathway. Inhibitors targeting the contact pathway encompass two primary categories: FXII inhibitors and FXI inhibitors, capable of impeding this process. This article reviews the role of FXII and FXI in activating the contact pathway, seeking to illuminate their contributions to thrombus formation. By listing the relatively mature drugs and their indications, clinicians are familiar with this new anticoagulant.

Abstract The extracellular matrix (ECM) plays an important role in the progression of cancer. Collagen is the most abundant component in ECM, and is involved in the biological formation of cancer. Although type XI collagen is a minor fibrillar collagen, collagen XI alpha 1 chain (COL11A1) expression has been found to be upregulated in a variety of human cancers including colorectal, esophagus, glioma, gastric, head and neck, lung, ovarian, pancreatic, salivary gland, and renal cancers. High levels of COL11A1 usually predict poor prognosis, owing to its association with angiogenesis, invasion, and drug resistance in cancer. However, little is known about the specific mechanism through which COL11A1 regulates tumor progression. Here, we have organized and summarized recent developments regarding the interactions between COL11A1 and intracellular signaling pathways and selected therapeutic agents targeting COL11A1, as these indicate its potential as a target for treatment of cancers, especially epithelial ovarian cancer.

Abstract Three-dimensional (3D) genomics shows immense promise for studying X chromosome inactivation (XCI) by interrogating changes to the X chromosomes' 3D states. Here, we sought to characterize the 3D state of the X chromosome in naïve and primed human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs). Using chromatin tracing, we analyzed X chromosome folding conformations in these cells with megabase genomic resolution. X chromosomes in female naïve hPSCs exhibit folding conformations similar to the active X chromosome (Xa) and the inactive X chromosome (Xi) in somatic cells. However, naïve X chromosomes do not exhibit the chromatin compaction typically associated with these somatic X chromosome states. In H7 naïve human embryonic stem cells,

    Abstract The $J/\psi \to \Xi^0 \bar{\Xi}^{0}$ process and subsequent decays are investigated using $(10087 \pm 44)\times 10^6$ $J/\psi$ events collected at the BESIII experiment. The decay parameters of $\Xi^0$ and $\bar{\Xi}^0$ are measured with greatly improved precision over previous measurements to be $\alpha_{\Xi} = -0.3750 \pm 0.0034 \pm 0.0016$, $\bar{\alpha}_{\Xi} = 0.3790 \pm 0.0034 \pm 0.0021$, $\phi_{\Xi} = 0.0051 \pm 0.0096 \pm 0.0018$~rad, $\bar{\phi}_{\Xi} = -0.0053 \pm 0.0097 \pm 0.0019$~rad, where the first and the second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. From these measurements, precise $CP$ symmetry tests in $\Xi^0$ decay are performed, and $A^{\Xi}_{CP} = (-5.4 \pm 6.5 \pm 3.1) \times 10^{-3}$ and $\Delta\phi^{\Xi}_{CP} = (-0.1 \pm 6.9 \pm 0.9) \times 10^{-3}$~rad are consistent with $CP$ conservation. The sequential decay also enables a separation of weak and strong phase differences, which are found for the first time to be $\xi_{P}-\xi_{S} = (0.0 \pm 1.7 \pm 0.2) \times 10^{-2}$~rad and $\delta_{P}-\delta_{S} = (-1.3 \pm 1.7 \pm 0.4)\times 10^{-2}$~rad, respectively. In addition, we measure the $\Lambda$ decay parameters and test $CP$ symmetry in $\Lambda$ decays.

Abstract Flower color is one of the most prominent traits of rose flowers and determines their ornamental value. The color of the "Chen Xi" rose can change from yellow to red during flower blooming. In the present study, the flavonoid metabolites were investigated by the UPLC-ESI-MS/MS from the petals of four successive flower development stages under natural conditions. In total, 176 flavonoid components, including 49 flavones, 59 flavonols, 12 flavanones, 3 isoflavones, 12 anthocyanins, and 41 proanthocyanidins were identified, with some of them being detected for the first time in this study. Additionally, there were 56 compounds that showed differences among comparison groups, mainly being enriched in pathways of isoflavone, flavonoid, flavone, flavonol, phenylpropanoids, and anthocyanin. Among them, it is anthocyanins that allow the rose flower to turn red when exposed to sunlight. To verify this result, compounds from rose petal with shading treatment (S2D) was also detected but could be clearly separated from the four samples under light by clustering and principal component analyses (PCA). Consistent with low anthocyanins accumulation, the flower with shading could not turn red. Moreover, it provides a foundation for further research on the light-induced color modification of flower.

Abstract Ecological development is essentially the process of building a resource-efficient, environment-friendly and ecologically-safe society, and of achieving modernization that features harmonious coexistence between man and nature. Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization offers answers to such theoretical and practical questions as why to build an ecological civilization, what the goal is and how to achieve it. Its practice model focuses on explaining the norms, content, paths and methods of building an ecological civilization. It is a structural and operable approach for implementing Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization and guiding the construction of ecological civilization. As an intermediate link between Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization and eco-civilization construction, the practice model is not only an indispensable part of the former, but also the key to combine the theory and practice concerning the two.

Abstract Recent advancements in robotic systems have led to the introduction of the da Vinci SP system, which allows surgeons to perform colon cancer surgery through fewer ports. This study aimed to evaluate the perioperative outcomes of colon cancer surgeries conducted using the da Vinci SP and Xi systems. Patients who underwent robotic colon cancer surgeries between November 2020 and December 2022 at two tertiary referral centers were considered for inclusion. Following propensity-score matching, short-term outcomes between the two systems were retrospectively analyzed. Out of 189 patients included in the study, 106 from 53 propensity-score matched pairs were analyzed. Patients operated on with the SP system exhibited smaller incision lengths (5.0 cm vs. 9.4 cm, p < 0.001) experienced less pain at 8 h (3.0 vs. 3.5, p < 0.001) and at 24 h post-operation (2.9 vs. 3.3, p = 0.001) and had a shorter duration of hospital stay (5 days vs. 6 days, p = 0.002). The overall rate of postoperative complications was 10.4%, with no significant difference between the SP and Xi groups (7.5% vs. 13.2%). Robotic-assisted colon cancer surgery using the da Vinci SP system is feasible and demonstrates favorable short-term outcomes. Compared to the Xi system, the SP system offers advantages in terms of cosmesis, postoperative pain, and recovery duration for colon cancer patients.

Abstract Introduction: Three variations including a novel F11 gene variation were detected in two unrelated Chinese families with coagulation factor XI deficiency, and their possible pathogenesis was elucidated.
Methods: The genomic DNA of the probands' pedigrees was extracted, and all exons and flanking sequences of F11 gene were subjected to PCR amplification and Sanger sequencing. ClustalX-2.1-win, Mutation Taster, and Swiss-Pdb Viewer software were used to analyze the conservation and impact of the variations on protein function and structure.
Results: DNA sequencing showed that the proband one had p.Gly350Glu and p.Trp501stop complex heterozygous variations, while the proband two took p.Pro338Leu and p.Trp501stop compound heterozygous variations. Conservation, structural, and functional analysis of variant amino acids indicated that these three variations were harmful and probably affected the structure and function of the variable protein.
Conclusions: Three variations including p.Pro338Leu, p.Gly350Glu, and p.Trp501stop responsible for the reduction of the FXI activities were herein detected. Notably, the p.Pro338Leu variation was discovered for the first time in the world. Furthermore, the p.Gly350Glu was first reported in China.
