    Abstract A new strategy to 2-aminochromanes through catalyst-free cascade reaction of 3-trifluoroacetyl-4 H -chromenes and 4 H -chromene-3-carbaldehydes with cyclic secondary amines is presented. The reaction proceeds through subsequent 1,4- and 1,2-additions of amine, bimolecular elimination of trifluoroacetamide or formamide, and 6- exo trig cyclization. The latter stage is a very rare example of addition of phenols to enamines. The obtained semicyclic N,O-acetals were applied as useful precursors for the synthesis of other chromanes.

    Abstract In this paper the simulation of the silicon p-i-n-photodiodes spectral sensitivity characteristics was carried out. The analysis of the semiconductor material characteristics (the doping level, lifetime, surface recombination velocity), the construction and operation modes on the photosensitive structures characteristics in order to optimize them were investigated.

    Abstract In the paper a simulation program for photovoltaic parameters of semiconductor devices and results of their investigation are presented. The results of the program usage based on an example of calculating the influence of the high-resistance "well" thickness in the silicon p-i-n-diode spectral response are discussed. For the accuracy of the program estimation it was compared the theoretical spectral characteristics of a silicon PIN-diode 5 kOhm substrate with the experimental data.

    Abstract We present a multi-level graph partitioning algorithm based on the extreme idea to contract only a single edge on each level of the hierarchy. This obviates the need for a matching algorithm and promises very good partitioning quality since there are very few changes between two levels. Using an efficient data structure and new flexible ways to break local search improvements early, we obtain an algorithm that scales to large inputs and produces the best known partitioning results for many inputs. For example, in Walshaw's well known benchmark tables we achieve 155 improvements dominating the entries for large graphs.

    Abstract We studied changes in the number of residual γH2AX foci in cultured human fibroblasts with different expression of the cell proliferation marker protein Ki-67 24, 48, and 72 h after exposure to X-ray radiation in doses of 2-10 Gy. It was shown that, regardless of the expression of Ki-67, the number of residual γH2AX foci in irradiated cells linearly depends on the absorbed dose of X-ray radiation.     Abstract Metabolism of nitric oxide (NO) donors: dinitrosyl iron complexes (DNIC), nitrosothiols (RSNO), and nitroprusside was studied on a chick embryo model. The obtained results give reason to assume that DNIC constituting the main pool of nitroso compounds in the vast majority of tissues are NO donors immediately interacting with the physiological target of NO, and other NO donors can perform this function after their transformation into DNIC. NO is released from DNIC not spontaneously, but under a joint influence of a factor destroying the complex and a target having chemical affinity for NO. A similar mechanism is apparently implicated in NO passage through the cell membrane.

    Abstract We outline how to create a mechanism that provides an optimal way to elicit, from an arbitrary group of experts, the probability of the truth of an arbitrary logical proposition together with collective information that has an explicit form and interprets this probability. Namely, we provide strong arguments for the possibility of the development of a self-resolving prediction market with play money that incentivizes direct information exchange between experts. Such a system could, in particular, motivate simultaneously many experts to collectively solve scientific or medical problems in a very efficient manner. We also note that in our considerations, experts are not assumed to be Bayesian.
