    Abstract As the market continues to embrace marijuana as a holistic product, perceptions about its uses are increasingly contradictory to public health recommendations. The purpose of this research was to qualitatively analyze the perceived risks and benefits of cannabis use during pregnancy via in-depth semi-structured interviews conducted with nine women. This research is intended to inform patient-provider interactions regarding cannabis use in prenatal clinical settings.

    Abstract Large networks are quintessential to bioinformatics, knowledge graphs, social network analysis, and graph-based learning. CompositeView is a Python-based open-source application that improves interactive complex network visualization and extraction of actionable insight. CompositeView utilizes specifically formatted input data to calculate composite scores and display them using the Cytoscape component of Dash. Composite scores are defined representations of smaller sets of conceptually similar data that, when combined, generate a single score to reduce information overload. Visualized interactive results are user-refined via filtering elements such as node value and edge weight sliders and graph manipulation options (e.g., node color and layout spread). The primary difference between CompositeView and other network visualization tools is its ability to auto-calculate and auto-update composite scores as the user interactively filters or aggregates data. CompositeView was developed to visualize network relevance rankings, but it performs well with non-network data. Three disparate CompositeView use cases are shown: relevance rankings from SemNet 2.0, an open-source knowledge graph relationship ranking software for biomedical literature-based discovery; Human Development Index (HDI) data; and the Framingham cardiovascular study. CompositeView was stress tested to construct reference benchmarks that define breadth and size of data effectively visualized. Finally, CompositeView is compared to Excel, Tableau, Cytoscape, neo4j, NodeXL, and Gephi.

    Abstract Multiple studies have reported new or exacerbated persistent or resistant hypertension in patients previously infected with COVID-19. We used literature-based discovery to identify and prioritize multi-scalar explanatory biology that relates resistant hypertension to COVID-19. Cross-domain text mining of 33+ million PubMed articles within a comprehensive knowledge graph was performed using SemNet 2.0. Unsupervised rank aggregation determined which concepts were most relevant utilizing the normalized HeteSim score. A series of simulations identified concepts directly related to COVID-19 and resistant hypertension or connected via one of three renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system hub nodes (mineralocorticoid receptor, epithelial sodium channel, angiotensin I receptor). The top-ranking concepts relating COVID-19 to resistant hypertension included: cGMP-dependent protein kinase II, MAP3K1, haspin, ral guanine nucleotide exchange factor, N-(3-Oxododecanoyl)-L-homoserine lactone, aspartic endopeptidases, metabotropic glutamate receptors, choline-phosphate cytidylyltransferase, protein tyrosine phosphatase, tat genes, MAP3K10, uridine kinase, dicer enzyme, CMD1B, USP17L2, FLNA, exportin 5, somatotropin releasing hormone, beta-melanocyte stimulating hormone, pegylated leptin, beta-lipoprotein, corticotropin, growth hormone-releasing peptide 2, pro-opiomelanocortin, alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone, prolactin, thyroid hormone, poly-beta-hydroxybutyrate depolymerase, CR 1392, BCR-ABL fusion gene, high density lipoprotein sphingomyelin, pregnancy-associated murine protein 1, recQ4 helicase, immunoglobulin heavy chain variable domain, aglycotransferrin, host cell factor C1, ATP6V0D1, imipramine demethylase, TRIM40, H3C2 gene, COL1A1+COL1A2 gene, QARS gene, VPS54, TPM2, MPST, EXOSC2, ribosomal protein S10, TAP-144, gonadotropins, human gonadotropin releasing hormone 1, beta-lipotropin, octreotide, salmon calcitonin, des-n-octanoyl ghrelin, liraglutide, gastrins.     Abstract Objective: Using population-based simulations and machine-learning algorithms to develop an adaptive restraint system that accounts for occupant anthropometry variations to further enhance safety balance throughout the whole population.
    Methods: Two thousand MADYMO full frontal impact crash simulations at 35 mph using two validated vehicle/restraint models representing a sedan and an SUV along with a parametric occupant model were conducted based on the maximal projection design of experiments, which considers varying occupant covariates (sex, stature, and body mass index) and vehicle restraint design variables (three for airbag, three for safety belt, and one for knee bolster). A Gaussian-process-based surrogate model was trained to rapidly predict occupant injury risks and the associated uncertainties. An optimization framework was formulated to seek the optimal adaptive restraint design policy that minimizes the population injury risk across a wide range of occupant sizes and shapes while maintaining a low difference in injury risks among different occupant subgroups. The effectiveness of the proposed method was tested by comparing the population-wise injury risks under the adaptive design policy and the traditional state-of-the-art design.
    Results: Compared to the traditional state-of-the-art design for midsize males, the optimal design policy shows the potential to further reduce the joint injury risk (combining head, chest, and lower extremity injury risks) among the whole population in the sedan and SUV models. Specifically, the two subgroups of vulnerable occupants including tall obese males and short obese females had higher reductions in injury risks.
    Conclusions: This study lays out a method to adaptively adjust vehicle restraint systems to improve safety balance. This is the first study where population-based crash simulations and machine-learning methods are used to optimize adaptive restraint designs for a diverse population. Nevertheless, this study shows the high injury risks associated with obese and female occupants, which can be mitigated via restraint adaptability.

    Abstract Objectives: Geocoding, the process of converting addresses into precise geographic coordinates, allows researchers and health systems to obtain neighborhood-level estimates of social determinants of health. This information supports opportunities to personalize care and interventions for individual patients based on the environments where they live. We developed an integrated offline geocoding pipeline to streamline the process of obtaining address-based variables, which can be integrated into existing data processing pipelines.
    Methods: POINT is a web-based, containerized, application for geocoding addresses that can be deployed offline and made available to multiple users across an organization. Our application supports use through both a graphical user interface and application programming interface to query geographic variables, by census tract, without exposing sensitive patient data. We evaluated our application's performance using two datasets: one consisting of 1 million nationally representative addresses sampled from Open Addresses, and the other consisting of 3,096 previously geocoded patient addresses.
    Results: A total of 99.4 and 99.8% of addresses in the Open Addresses and patient addresses datasets, respectively, were geocoded successfully. Census tract assignment was concordant with reference in greater than 90% of addresses for both datasets. Among successful geocodes, median (interquartile range) distances from reference coordinates were 52.5 (26.5-119.4) and 14.5 (10.9-24.6) m for the two datasets.
    Conclusion: POINT successfully geocodes more addresses and yields similar accuracy to existing solutions, including the U.S. Census Bureau's official geocoder. Addresses are considered protected health information and cannot be shared with common online geocoding services. POINT is an offline solution that enables scalability to multiple users and integrates downstream mapping to neighborhood-level variables with a pipeline that allows users to incorporate additional datasets as they become available. As health systems and researchers continue to explore and improve health equity, it is essential to quickly and accurately obtain neighborhood variables in a Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)-compliant way.

    Abstract Many countries across the world instituted lockdowns as a measure to prevent the spread of COVID-19. However, these lockdowns had consequences on health systems. This study explored effects of the COVID-19 lockdown measures on health and healthcare services in Uganda. The qualitative study employed focus group discussions (FGDs), household interviews, and key informant interviews (KIIs) in both an urban (Kampala district) and rural (Wakiso district) setting in central Uganda. Fourteen FGDs were conducted among community members, local leaders, community health workers, and health practitioners. Interviews were conducted among 40 households, while 31 KIIs were held among various stakeholders including policy makers, non-governmental organisations, and the private sector. Data was analysed by thematic analysis with the support of NVivo 2020 (QSR International). Findings from the study are presented under four themes: maternal and reproductive health; child health; chronic disease services; and mental health. Maternal and reproductive health services were negatively affected by the lockdown measures which resulted in reduced utilisation of antenatal, postnatal and family planning services. These effects were mainly due to travel restrictions including curfew, and fear of contracting COVID-19. The effects on child health included reduced utilisation of services which was a result of difficulties faced in accessing health facilities because of the travel restrictions. Patients with chronic conditions could not access health facilities for their routine visits particularly due to suspension of public transport. Depression, stress and anxiety were common due to social isolation from relatives and friends, loss of jobs, and fear of law enforcement personnel. There was also increased anxiety among health workers due to fear of contracting COVID-19. The COVID-19 lockdown measures negatively affected health, and reduced access to maternal, reproductive and child health services. Future interventions in pandemic response should ensure that their effects on health and access to health services are minimised.

    Abstract Derelict fishing nets pose hazards to marine systems as they travel through the ocean or become ensnared on coral reefs. Understanding of the movement of nets within shallow atolls can help to optimize operations to protect these shallow reefs. In 2018, six derelict fishing nets at Manawai (Pearl and Hermes Reef) in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands were tagged with satellite-transmitting buoys and tracked for three years. This study reveals that nets that enter the atoll from the northeast travel southwest towards the center of the atoll, and nets in the center can remain ensnared on the same reef for at least three years. This study shows that satellite buoys are a successful approach to tracking derelict net movement, and can inform future debris removal missions.
