Abstract Mixed halocarborane anions, 1-H-CB11Y5X6- (X, Y = Cl, Br, I), have been prepared by treatment of [Me3NH][1-H-CB11H5X6] (X = Cl, Br, I) with proper halogenating reagents at 180-220 degrees C in a sealed tube in high yield. These new anions are fully characterized by 1H, 13C, and 11B NMR, IR, and negative-ion MALDI MS spectroscopy. Some are further confirmed by single-crystal X-ray analyses. The weakly coordinating nature of these anions is probed by 29Si chemical shifts of the resulting Pri3Si(1-H-CB11Y5X6) compounds. The results suggest that the coordinating ability of these anions is mainly dependent on the substituents at 7-12 positions (namely, X atoms), and the contribution from the upper belt substituents Y is relatively small. These suggestions are consistent with the results obtained from the structural study of silver salts of mixed halo- and perhalocarborane anions.

Abstract The hypothesis of the serological H-Y antigen as the inducer molecule for mammalian male sex differentiation has been considered an important working model in developmental biology. However, because of the difficulties involved in its detection, supporting evidence in molecular terms is lacking for this hypothesis. The isolation of the gene for the serological H-Y antigen is essential to the acertainment of its proposed functions. Using recombinant DNA technology and specific anti-H-Y sera we have isolated a candidate gene, the MEA gene, for the serological H-Y antigen. Molecular characterization of the MEA gene shows male-enhanced expression and genetic conservation patterns similar to those attributed to the serological H-Y antigen. The isolation of this candidate gene for the serological H-Y antigen. The isolation of this candidate gene for the serological H-Y antigen would allow further investigations to identify the functions for this molecule in molecular terms.

Abstract Sodium glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitor (SGLT2i) is a class of drugs that were originally intended for decreasing blood glucose in diabetes. However, recent trials have shown that there are other beneficial effects. Major clinical trials involving SGLT2i medications from 2015 to 2022 were reviewed using PUBMED search. Recent major SGLT2i landmark trials have demonstrated benefits for cardiovascular disease (reduce major adverse cardiovascular events (heart attack, stroke, cardiovascular death), hospitalization for heart failure, all-cause death), and renal disease (delay the onset of dialysis) regardless of diabetic status. The consistent cardiorenal benefits observed in major landmark trials have resulted in the rapid adoption of SGLT2i therapy not only in diabetes guidelines but also cardiovascular and renal guidelines.
