Abstract Objective To strengthen the research capacity of professional Master students in clinical medicine,a new teaching mode of literature case presentation and discussion was tried in clinical epidemiology teaching and the teaching effectiveness was evaluated. Methods The professional Master students in clinical medicine of Peking Union Medical College who joined clinical epidemiology courses during 2019—2021 were selected as the research subjects(n=128). In 2019, the lecture-based teaching was adopted. In 2020 and 2021, a 4-hour literature case presentation and discussion class was added for the topic of “cohort study”. Feedback on the new teaching mode was collected through questionnaires from students taking the course in 2021. Results The average per-question score rate across all questions in the final examination for a student in 2020 was higher than that in 2019 (the median value was 84.7% vs 75.4%, P<0.001). There was no statistical difference in the average per-question score rate across questions related to the cohort study topic for a student between the two years. Students′ score ratefor the case presentation and discussion in 2020 was positively correlated with the average per-question score rate for not only questions related to the cohort study topic but also all questions in the final examination(r=0.40, P<0.01; r=0.31, P<0.05). Among the students taking the course in 2021, 80% believed that they had achieved the knowledge-learning goal of this case discussion class. About 90% agreed that the teaching mode of literature case presentation and discussion was helpful in improving their ability in designing clinical research, reading literatures, presenting research work and carrying out team collaboration. All students were satisfied with this new teaching mode. Conclusions Conducting literature case presentation supplemented with discussion in clinical epidemiology teaching can help students better to Master clinical research methodology and enhance their comprehensive research capacity.

Abstract Abstract Bone resection is highly valued in total knee arthroplasty (TKA), but how to determine the amount of distal femur resection is still controversial. The purpose of this study was to explore how to use lateral condyle as a reference for distal femoral osteotomy in TKA. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and Radiographic images from 118 nonarthritic subjects and 123 osteoarthritis (OA) subjects were used to assess the cartilage wear pattern of the distal femur in varus knees. Measurements were performed on three-dimensional reconstruction after virtual bone cutting. The difference between the resection amount of distal (0°) and posterior (90°) was calculated when the medial condyle was used as a reference in OA patients. The osteotomy amount on lateral was calculated in nonarthritic subjects when the medial condylar osteotomy was consistent with the thickness of the implants. In 43% of OA patients, there was > 1 mm difference between the 0° and 90° in medial condyle cartilage, and no difference was observed in lateral. When using medial condyle as a reference for osteotomy, there was a difference of 1.3 ± 0.56 mm between the resection amount of 0° and 90°, and the difference was 0.24 ± 0.27 mm when using lateral condyle. Statistical analysis showed that there was a linear correlation between the resection amount of lateral condyle and mechanical lateral distal femoral angle (mLDFA) in nonarthritic subjects (r = 0.845, p < 0.001). Lateral distal femoral condyle has more uniform cartilage wear in varus knee osteoarthritis. Using the lateral condyle as the reference for distal femoral osteotomy is more suitable for the cartilage wear pattern of the varus knee. The position of cutting guide can be adjusted by preoperative measurements of mLDFA.

Abstract Humans constantly calibrate their sensorimotor system to accommodate environmental changes, and this perception-action integration is extensively studied using sensorimotor adaptation paradigms. The cerebellum is one of the key brain regions for sensorimotor adaptation, but previous attempts to modulate sensorimotor adaptation with cerebellar transcranial direct current stimulation (ctDCS) produced inconsistent findings. Since both conscious/explicit learning and procedural/implicit learning are involved in adaptation, researchers have proposed that ctDCS only affects sensorimotor adaptation when implicit learning dominates the overall adaptation. However, previous research had both types of learning co-exist in their experiments without controlling their potential interaction under the influence of ctDCS. Here, we used error clamp perturbation and gradual perturbation, two effective techniques to elicit implicit learning only, to test the ctDCS effect on sensorimotor adaptation. We administrated ctDCS to independent groups of participants while they implicitly adapted to visual errors. In Experiment 1, we found that cerebellar anodal tDCS had no effect on implicit adaptation induced by error clamp. In Experiment 2, we applied both anodal and cathodal stimulation and used a smaller error clamp to prevent a potential ceiling effect, and replicated the null effect. In Experiment 3, we used gradually imposed visual errors to elicit implicit adaptation but still found no effect of anodal tDCS. With a total of 174 participants, we conclude that the previous inconsistent tDCS effect on sensorimotor adaptation cannot be explained by the relative contribution of implicit learning. Given that the cerebellum is simultaneously involved in explicit and implicit learning, our results suggest that the complex interplay between the two learning processes and large individual differences associated with this interplay might contribute to the inconsistent findings from previous studies on ctDCS and sensorimotor adaptation.

Abstract Fear of childbirth not only brings negative psychological experiences to expectant fathers and affect their ability to prepare for parenthood but can even affect children's emotional and cognitive development. It is essential to identify men with a more severe fear of birth and its related risk factors for the better transition of fathers' role. The objective of this study was to investigate the prevalence of fear of childbirth among Chinese expectant fathers, identify its contributing factors and explore the association among fear of childbirth, resilience and dyadic coping. A cross-sectional survey was conducted in the obstetric department of two tertiary hospitals in Wuhan, China. The socio-demographic questionnaire, the father's version of the Wijma Delivery Expectancy/Experience Questionnaire version A (W-DEQ A), the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale-10 (CD-RISC), and the Dyadic Coping Inventory (DCI) were used to explore the correlation of fear of childbirth, resilience and dyadic coping of participants. Ultimately, a total of 1176 expectant fathers were included in this study. The prevalence of fear of childbirth was 32.1%. Gestational weeks of pregnant women, monthly income, adverse birth experience, gravidity and parity of pregnant women were considered risk factors for the expectant fathers with fear of childbirth. Furthermore, there was a weak negative correlation between fear of childbirth and resilience and dyadic coping. In conclusion, the prevalence of fear of childbirth in expectant fathers in China was high. Adequate identification of factors influencing the fear of childbirth among expectant fathers is necessary to reduce the fear of childbirth and to develop appropriate interventions in preparing fathers for their new parenting role.

Abstract Abstract Tribological behaviors of laser textured surface with elliptical dimples were experimentally compared with that of the smooth one under different lubrication conditions, including the poor-oil, rich-oil and dry lubrication. The lubrication regime was analyzed with the increasing operating load by ring-on-ring tribological tests. Finally, the performance impact of rolling piston rotary compressor with textures fabricated on the thrust surfaces was investigated. Results show that the tribological improvement strongly depends on lubrication condition. With the increase of applied loads under rich-oil and poor-oil lubrication, the effect of micro dimple promotes the critical load transforming lubrication regime, and expands the range of hydrodynamic lubrication, meanwhile maintains a similar minimum of friction coefficient as the smooth surface but enhances wear resistance. However, it is reverse to increase the friction coefficient and surface wear for the textured surfaces under dry lubrication. The compressor performance can be improved significantly by laser surface texturing with a 2% reduction of friction power consumption and a 2.5% enhancement of energy efficiency ratio.

Abstract Ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) is a cement-based material with excellent impact resistance. Compared with traditional concrete, it possesses ultra-high strength, ultra-high toughness, and ultra-high durability, making it an ideal material for designing structures with impact resistance. The research on the impact resistance performance of UHPC and its composite structures is of great significance for the structural design of protective engineering projects. However, currently, there is still insufficient research on the impact resistance performance of UHPC composite structures. To study the impact resistance performance, experiments were conducted on UHPC targets using high-speed projectiles. The results were compared with impact tests on granite targets. The results indicated that when subjected to projectile impact, the UHPC targets exhibited smaller surface craters compared with the granite targets, while the penetration depth was lower in the granite targets. Afterwards, the process of a projectile impacting the UHPC composite structure was numerically simulated using ANSYS 16.0/LS-DYNA finite element software. The numerical simulation results of penetration depth and crater diameter were in good agreement with the experimental results, which indicates the rationality of the numerical model. Based on this, further analysis was carried out on the influence of impact velocity, impact angle, and reinforcement ratio on the penetration depth of the composite structure. The results show that the larger the incident angle or the smaller the velocity of the projectile is, the easier it is to deflect the projectile. There is a linear relationship between penetration depth and reinforcement ratio; as the reinforcement ratio increases, the penetration depth decreases significantly. This research is of great significance in improving the safety and reliability of key projects and also contributes to the application and development of ultra-high-performance materials in the engineering field.
