Abstract: ...

Abstract The goal of this study was to evaluate the concordance amongst threezooplankton groups (Rotifera, Cladocera, and Copepoda) and between the zooplankton groups and the environmental variables in the Luis Eduardo Magalhães reservoir, in the Mid-Tocantins River, Tocantins State, Brazil. Concordance patterns were found in relation to environmental variables, cladocerans, and rotifers, although values were relatively low. These results indicate that one should be cautious about the use of indicative taxonomic groups to detect environmental changes, where divergent results annul extrapolation possibilities and indicate the existence of distinct environmental factors controlling different groups.

Abstract Cellular senescence is a state of permanent growth arrest. It can be triggered by telomere shortening (replicative senescence) or prematurely induced by stresses such as DNA damage, oncogene overactivation, loss of tumor suppressor genes, oxidative stress, tissue factors, and others. Advances in techniques and experimental designs have provided new evidence about the biology of senescent cells (SnCs) and their importance in human health and disease. This review aims to describe the main aspects of SnCs phenotype focusing on alterations in subcellular compartments like plasma membrane, cytoskeleton, organelles, and nuclei. We also discuss the heterogeneity, dynamics, and plasticity of SnCs' phenotype, including the SASP, and pro-survival mechanisms. We advance on the multiple layers of phenotypic heterogeneity of SnCs, such as the heterogeneity between inducers, tissues and within a population of SnCs, discussing the relevance of these aspects to human health and disease. We also raise the main challenges as well alternatives to overcome them. Ultimately, we present open questions and perspectives in understanding the phenotype of SnCs from the perspective of basic and applied questions.

Abstract Background: Excessive weight gain is a current concern among People Living with HIV (PLHIV) starting ART.
Objectives: To evaluate the weight gain after 48-weeks of ART in naive patients, according with baseline CD4 count.
Methods: PLHIV starting 3TC + TDF + DTG with at least 48-weeks of follow up in two AIDS referral centers were stratified by baseline CD4 count (lower or higher than 200 cells/mm
    Results: A total of 270 patients were included in the study. Mean CD4 count were 78.3 ± 61.7 and 536.7 ± 273 cells/mm
Conclusions: Weight gain in the present study indicates a "return to health" phenomenon. Excessive weight gain was more frequent in women.

Abstract Huntington's disease (HD) is an inherited disease that leads to an inexorable progression of motor, cognitive and psychiatric disturbances. In the initial stages, the symptoms are not clearly disabling, and the patient may present a lack of awareness about the symptoms themselves, which we call anosognosia. However, anosognosia might not justify all passivity of the HD patient in face of the diagnosis. Patients may also experience the denial of illness, as a stage of grief, expected to happen in the face of the diagnosis of any neurodegenerative disorder. In addition, people with HD tend to be more apathetic, and more silent, in regular consultations. In the present article, the authors express a point of view, discussing the behavior of the HD patient, in which there is a multifactorial passivity, in the face of the diagnosis and of the disease itself. Having the proper knowledge of this situation may prepare the neurologist to better understand the patient and the evolution of the disease.

Abstract Traditional food products are products made in a specific way according to the gastronomic heritage and known due to their sensory properties and associated with a specific local area, region or country. These products are often associated with rural areas lacking sources of innovation and competitiveness. This study aims to develop and implement a model to promote innovation in traditional food products through academic entrepreneurship, integrating it with a perspective of product development. The development of the model was based on the program and the contest developed under the Newfood Project, where a process for product innovation was incorporated. The developed model proved to be easy to implement and replicate among PhD students and researchers in the areas of food biotechnology, food science and nutrition. Its implementation, with a new product development process, allowed the prototyping of innovative products in the traditional products sector.
