Abstract Background: Family-systems interventions have been proposed as one way of supporting families of people with an intellectual disability (ID) or who are autistic. This systematic review aimed to summarise what family-systems interventions have been studied with this population, what evidence there is for their effectiveness and families' experiences of the interventions.
Methods: The review was preregistered on PROSPERO (CRD42022297516). We searched five electronic databases, identified 6908 records and screened 72 full texts. Study quality was evaluated using the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool, and a narrative synthesis was used.
Results: We identified 13 eligible articles with 292 participating families. Most studies reported positive effects of the interventions on wellbeing and family relationships, and families reported positive experiences. However, research quality was poor and there are no any sufficiently powered randomised controlled trials demonstrating family-systems interventions' effectiveness for this population.
Conclusions: There is a need for higher-quality research to establish whether family-systems interventions are beneficial for families of people who have an ID or who are autistic.

Abstract Background: Carotid occlusion often leads to the formation of a collateral network. On rare occasions, due to hemodynamic influence, aneurysms can occur. Here, the authors describe a 69-year-old male presenting with intracerebral hemorrhage secondary to a ruptured aneurysm within such a network.
Observations: The patient presented to the emergency department with an altered level of consciousness. Imaging showed a left temporal lobe hemorrhage extending into the ventricle, subdural hematoma, and evidence of contrast extravasation. Digital subtraction angiography revealed an occluded left internal carotid artery with the left middle cerebral artery territory reconstituted by flow through an external carotid artery-internal carotid artery anastomosis. The latter was formed by the superficial temporal artery-superior orbital artery, as well as pial-pial collaterals from the posterior temporal artery. Notably, a 4-mm aneurysm arising from the pial-pial collateral network was identified. Surgical intervention involved a left temporal craniectomy and aneurysm excision, with special attention paid to preserving the anastomotic flow through the superficial temporal artery.
Lessons: This case underscores the importance of recognizing and preserving collateral vascular pathways in cases of carotid occlusion with an associated aneurysm. It emphasizes the necessary balance between managing aneurysm risk and maintaining cerebral perfusion, highlighting the need for careful preoperative planning and intraoperative caution.

Method: In this introduction, we provide an overview of the research completed by nine teams, who submitted research articles and notes on a variety of topics pertinent to the theme of telehealth assessments. Of these, seven teams investigated the validity and reliability of 14 different assessment tools, while two teams described training and experience issues.
Conclusion: The nine studies presented in this forum will provide speech-language pathologists with insight into a range of issues regarding telehealth assessment, including the breadth of suitable assessment tools; practical strategies for assessing children with a diverse range of ages, languages, skills, and abilities; and the unexpected challenges and opportunities of conducting clinical work and research during a global pandemic.

Abstract Background: Duty to care is both an integral concept in health care and a fundamental nursing obligation. But nurses' perceptions of duty to care can be moderated by their experiences in the practice setting. Research examining nurses' perceptions of their duty to care during the COVID-19 pandemic could shed light on how the pandemic is affecting the nursing workforce.
Purpose: This study aimed to examine nurses' sense of duty to care during the early months of the pandemic, using the Nash Duty to Care Scale (NDCS), and to compare the high-scoring nurses with the low-scoring nurses.
Methods: This quantitative study used a descriptive, cross-sectional design. It was conducted among licensed RNs enrolled at two accredited nursing programs in the Northeast region of the United States. Data were collected via a demographics questionnaire and the NDCS. A two-step cluster procedure was used to categorize participants into two groups: those with high perceived duty to care (HPDC) and those with low perceived duty to care (LPDC). Independent t tests were performed to compare NDCS results between the two groups.
Results: Nearly two-thirds (61%) of the participants had total NDCS scores indicating an HPDC, while 39% had scores indicating an LPDC. Of the NDCS's four subscales, perceived obligation and perceived risk were the most important in separating participants into the low- and high-scoring groups.
Conclusions: This study adds to the literature about the components that affected nurses' perceived duty to care and willingness to report to work during the early months of the pandemic. Just as nurses have a duty to care, health care organizations have an obligation to provide a safe working environment so that nurses can fulfill that duty without sacrificing personal safety. The study findings may guide health care leaders, systems, and organizations regarding how to create safer work environments that support the nurse's duty to care during disasters.

Abstract Introduction: Due to usability, feasibility, and acceptability concerns, observational treatment fidelity measures are often challenging to deploy in schools. Teacher self-report fidelity measures with specific design features might address some of these barriers. This case study outlines a community-engaged, iterative process to adapt the observational Treatment Integrity for Elementary Settings (TIES-O) to a teacher self-report version designed to assess the use of practices to support children's social-emotional competencies in elementary classrooms.
Method: Cognitive walkthrough interviews were conducted with teachers to improve the usability of the teacher self-report measure, called the Treatment Integrity for Elementary Schools-Teacher Report (TIES-T). Qualitative content analysis was used to extract themes from the interviews and inform changes to the measure.
Results: Increasing clarity and interactive elements in the measure training were the dominant themes, but suggestions for the measure format and jargon were also suggested.
Conclusion: The suggested changes resulted in a brief measure, training, and feedback system designed to support the teacher's use of practices to support children's social-emotional competencies in elementary classrooms. Future research with the TIES-T will examine the score reliability and validity of the measure.

    Anatomical record (Hoboken, N.J. : 2007)

    2020  Volume 303, Issue 10, Page(s) 2507–2510

Abstract: ... podocyte biology, and applications of renal stem cells, (c) renal developmental programming, and (d ...

Abstract Enriching our understanding of the anatomy of the kidneys, in development, health, and disease, has been the primary focus of Professor John Bertram's distinguished research career to date. Among other notable achievements, his landmark analyses of nephron number in over 400 human kidneys (the Monash Series), and his refinement of stereological techniques for renal structural analyses, have proven him an international leader in renal anatomy research. In this Special Issue, we (some of John's collaborators, colleagues, and former students) celebrate John's career with a series of 20 review and original research articles relevant to his expertise: (a) renal anatomy, physiology, and pathology, (b) kidney development, podocyte biology, and applications of renal stem cells, (c) renal developmental programming, and (d) contemporary methodologies in renal research; his accomplishments as a Head (Chair) of an Anatomy Department are also illustrated. We hope that this collection will serve as both an important resource, and a source of inspiration, to renal anatomy researchers and educators alike.
