    Abstract Introduction: Fluoroquinolones (FQs) is a distinct class of antibiotics which are prescribed and used quite frequently worldwide, despite the box warnings (BW) issued by Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Literature has shown in spite of BWs related to FQs there is minimal impact on health care professionals (HCPs) prescribing habits, potentially attributing towards limited and insufficient awareness. In Pakistan, FQs are mostly prescribed antibiotics for microbial treatments, therefore the purpose of this study was to determine the level of knowledge about the safety profile, use, and BW of FQs among HCPs working in Pakistan.
    Methods: A cross-sectional study was undertaken among the HCPs of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan from October 2022 to December 2022. A validated questionnaire was used to assess the knowledge of HCPs regarding FQs, its safety profile and BW. A random convenient sample technique was used while recruiting HCPs in this study. As the HCPs comprised physicians, dentists, pharmacist and nurses, all were approached in person and the study objective was fully elaborated and explained to them. The statistic test like: one-way ANOVA, independent-t test, multivariate logistic regression were used keeping the p-value < 0.05 as statistically significant.
    Results: A total of n = 250 HCPs were approached, of which n = 186 HCPs completed the questionnaire with a response rate of 74.4%. FQs prescribing pattern was only assessed among the prescribers, i.e., physicians and dentists (39/186). The mean knowledge score for indications was 5.29 ± 3.05, while for the adverse effects was 7.70 ± 2.61. The highest score for knowledge for indications and adverse effect score was achieved by physicians followed by dentist. The mean knowledge score for the BW was 3.46 ± 2.93 and among the HCPs for the BW of FQs, 20.4% of the HCPs had appropriate knowledge score (score ≥ 50%). The knowledge score was significantly higher in males (p = 0.039), dentists (p = 0.001), HCPs having master/specialization level of education (p = 0.003), HCPs working in government sector hospitals (p = 0.010) and secondary care hospitals (p = 0.001) while the multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that HCPs working in primary care hospital (OR: 6.2) and secondary care hospital (OR: 20.3) were associated with the tendency to achieve 50% or above knowledge score.
    Conclusion:  Findings of this study reveals the unsatisfactory knowledge of HCPs regarding the safety profile, use, and BW of FQs putting patients at heightened risks of FQs associated AEs. Therefore, it is crucial to implement a national antimicrobial stewardship program, seminars and lectures aimed at continuously updating the knowledge of HCPs, regardless of their specialties, and effectively restrict the misuse of antimicrobial and disseminate FDA BWs in clinical practice.

    Abstract According to statistics, stroke is the second or third leading cause of death and adult disability. Stroke causes losing control of the motor function, paralysis of body parts, and severe back pain for which a physiotherapist employs many therapies to restore the mobility needs of everyday life. This research article presents an automated approach to detect different therapy exercises performed by stroke patients during rehabilitation. The detection of rehabilitation exercise is a complex area of human activity recognition (HAR). Due to numerous achievements and increasing popularity of deep learning (DL) techniques, in this research article a DL model that combines convolutional neural network (CNN) and long short-term memory (LSTM) is proposed and is named as 3-Layer CNN-LSTM model. The dataset is collected through RGB (red, green, and blue) camera under the supervision of a physiotherapist, which is resized in the preprocessing stage. The 3-layer CNN-LSTM model takes preprocessed data at the convolutional layer. The convolutional layer extracts useful features from input data. The extracted features are then processed by adjusting weights through fully connected (FC) layers. The FC layers are followed by the LSTM layer. The LSTM layer further processes this data to learn its spatial and temporal dynamics. For comparison, we trained CNN model over the prescribed dataset and achieved 89.9% accuracy. The conducted experimental examination shows that the 3-Layer CNN-LSTM outperforms CNN and KNN algorithm and achieved 91.3% accuracy.

    Abstract Quercus-dominated forests are among the most important broad-leaved evergreen forests of the Hindu Kush ranges and are currently prone to drastic anthropogenic and climatic changes. The aim of this study was to provide basic data for the development of a regional oak forest ecosystem framework for ecological restoration and management plan development to maintain local peoples’ livelihoods. Hence, we analyzed distribution patterns and environmental factors that affect regional oak forests’ species composition and diversity. Ward’s Agglomerative clustering divided oak-dominated forest communities into three groups: i.e., Group I, dominated by Quercus baloot had an importance value index (IVI) of 89.87 ± 4.31, Group II, dominated by Quercus dilatata had an IVI of 32.16 ± 15.01, and Group III, dominated by Quercus oblongata had an IVI of 83.14 ± 4.67, respectively. The environmental factors which vary significantly within these communities were latitude, elevation, clay content and bulk density of the soil. Wilting point, saturation point, and electrical conductivity were also considered as ecosystem structural variables. Canonical correspondence analysis (CCA) indicated that community structure was affected by various environmental factors including precipitation, slope angle, elevation, clay content, and relative humidity.

    Abstract Nasal bridle is a feeding tube retaining device that is now increasingly used worldwide. While common complications tend to be minor, it is important to remain vigilant for newer adverse events. We hereby delineate the case of an elderly female who required nasoenteric feeding tube following simultaneous liver-kidney transplantation. Nasal bridle placement was warranted owing to her significant frailty and poor mentation. Due to her extreme agitation during the procedure, bridle insertion could not be completed. Upon removal of the probe, unprompted detachment of the magnetic tip was noted. Radiological workup revealed the dislodged magnet in the sphenoid sinus. Subsequently, she underwent an uneventful endoscopic sinus surgery, resulting in successful retrieval of the magnet. This paper highlights the spontaneous magnet avulsion from a bridling system and serves the purpose of community awareness regarding this unusual procedural complication. Additionally, we aim to evaluate the efficacy of the nasal bridle, further accentuating its advantages and possible complications.

    Abstract Introduction: Doctors and pharmaceutical companies are the major components of the health care system. Their interdependency on such a large scale calls for a better relationship between two stakeholders of the health care system. Most of the time the relationship has a bad impact on the reputation of the prestigious medical profession as well as affects the health of the poor patient causing the malafied relationship. Materials and Methods: In order to see how the relationship works in the hospitals of Azad Kashmir, the study was conducted on the doctors of Abbas Institute of Medical Sciences, Muzaffarabad. A mixed type of study was conducted from January through June 2017. In this study, 100 doctors were selected for data collection by questionnaire method. While three different focus groups involving doctors from different specialties were made. Results: Out of 100 doctors, 36 doctors agreed that the doctors in AIMS are aware of such guidelines, 92 doctors agreed that there is a need for national guidelines to monitor the doctor and pharmaceutical company’s relationship, and 67 responded that doctors' prescription is influenced by the gifts given by pharmaceutical companies, 52 doctors agreed that pharmaceutical companies should be banned from giving gifts to physicians, 88 responded that the information provided by those representatives is only superficial and they don’t know the core information like side effects and mode of action of the drugs, 15 thought that yes it is ethical to accept the gifts from the pharmaceutical companies but only to the extent of samples of medicines. Out of 100, 89 doctors responded in favor of the incorporation of bioethics in the curriculum of medical education.
