Abstract The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) disease was first detected in December 2019 in Wuhan, China. This disease is currently one of the most important global health problems. The novel coronavirus COVID-19 is a respiratory illness, that has caused a deadly pandemic that is spreading rapidly around the world. It is not only a respiratory system virus that causes severe lung disease, but also a systemic disease agent that can affect all systems. People with COVID-19 disease usually have respiratory signs, however, the liver disorder is not an uncommon presentation. In addition, many studies around the world have revealed that the liver is injured to various degrees in patients with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 disease. This review mainly focuses on the impact of COVID-19 on Liver Injury at various ages.

Abstract Evidence shows that nanoparticles exert lower toxicity, improved targeting, and enhanced bioactivity, and provide versatile means to control the release profile of the encapsulated moiety. Among different NPs, inorganic nanoparticles (Ag, Au, Ce, Fe, Se, Te, Zn, etc.) possess a considerable place owing to their unique bioactivities in nanoforms. Selenium, an essential trace element, played a vital role in the growth and development of living organisms. It has attracted great interest as a therapeutic factor without significant adverse effects in medicine at recommended dose. Selenium nanoparticles can be fabricated by physical, biological, and chemical approaches. The biosynthesis of nanoparticles is shown an advance compared to other procedures, because it is environmentally friendly, relatively reproducible, easily accessible, biodegradable, and often results in more stable materials. The effect of size, shape, and synthesis methods on their applications in biological systems investigated by several studies. This review focused on the procedures for the synthesis of selenium nanoparticles, in particular the biogenesis of selenium nanoparticles and their biomedical characteristics, such as antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, and antiparasitic properties. Eventually, a comprehensive future perspective of selenium nanoparticles was also presented.

Abstract Today, the use of nanoparticles has attracted considerable attention in biomedical investigations and applications. Antibody-nanoparticle conjugates have proven to be useful tools for raising accuracy and sensitivity in in vitro diagnostics. IgY antibodies have benefits over different antibodies in terms of minimizing animal harm, reducing reactivity with mammalian factors, and cost-effective extraction. Metal nanoparticles are widely used for various medical and biological applications and are potential candidates for identifying pathogens and treating them, which can be mostly related to their special properties, including their shape and size. Avian IgY antibodies conjugated with nanoparticles have been widely used for the detection of parasitic, viral, and bacterial infections as well as allergens and toxicological and pharmaceutical molecules. This review aimed to investigate avian antibodies conjugated with metal nanoparticles and their biological applications.

Abstract Nanotechnology is continually developing, and considering the large amount that is produced today and the variety of their applications, nanoparticles occupy an essential position among all kinds of nanomaterials. Nanotechnology has attracted the attention of medical sciences because of its function in human health, leading to numerous applications in the field of medicine. Various synthesis chemical, biological, and physical techniques are utilized to synthesize nanoparticles. Among these, the green nanoparticle synthesis methods can be more viable and sustainable choices for the future. The biosynthesis of metal nanoparticles with herbs has been used in phytomedicine. The purpose of this review is to investigate the green synthesis of metal nanoparticles using the Mentha pulegium herb and its biological applications.

Abstract Introduction: The emergence and global spread of carbapenemases produced by Klebsiella pneumoniae is a serious problem to health services worldwide. K. pneumoniae, belonging to the Enterobacteriaceae family, is commonly found in the human gastrointestinal tract and environment, especially in the hospital environment. Carbapenem is administered as the first treatment for severe infections created by multi-drug resistant K. pneumoniae. Despite the fact that the carbapenemase-producing K. pneumoniae has become more prevalent in Iran, few investigations have probed into the prevalence of different carbapenemase genes in Iran. Method: The aim of this study was to examine the prevalence of carbapenemase genes in K. pneumoniae from 2010 to 2018 in Iran. PubMed and Scopus databases were searched for the articles published between 2010 and 2018 in Iran. Results: A total of 25 papers published between 2012 and 2018 were selected. The highest frequency of blaNDM, blaIMP, blaVIM, blaKPC and, blaOXA48 genes were related to cities of Shiraz in 2017 [23 (26.14%)], Hamedan in 2017 [2 (50%)], Babol in 2015 [15 (41.66%)], Isfahan in 2013 [65 (44.83%)] and, and Isfahan in 2018 [90 (76.27%)], respectively. The results showed that the frequency of blaNDM, blaOXA48, and blaIMP genes increased in 2017 and 2018, and there was an increase in the frequency of the blaVIM gene in 2014 and 2015, and the blaKPC gene in 2013. The highest percentage of carbapenemases genes isolated in Iran were related to blaKPC [145 (37.08%)], blaOXA48 [118 (30.18%)], and blaNDM [88 (22.51%)], and the lowest percentages were reported in blaIMP [4 (1.02%)], and blaVIM [36 (9.21%)], respectively. Conclusion: The results of our review showed that blaNDM and blaOXA48 carbapenemase genes have been increasing in Iran, and it seems that traveling is one of the most important factors in the transmission of carbapenemase genes.

Abstract Introduction: Blood-borne infections have always been concerns for the health system, as well as patients receiving blood products. In the present study, our aim was to determine the prevalence of hepatitis B (HBV) and C (HCV) virus infections in the blood units donated in Jiroft city, Kerman province, Iran, during a 5-year period (2011-2016). We also analyzed the demographic characteristics of donors. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study. Records available in the blood center of Jiroft was used as the source for collecting the data required (i.e., demographic features, results of laboratory tests, etc.). SPSS software version 22 was used to analyze the data using descriptive statistics (frequency and percentage). The chi-square test was used to identify any association between categorical variables at a significant level of P < 0.05.Results: The total number of blood donors was 36 117. Hepatitis B and C frequencies were 3.3 and 0.44 per 1000, respectively. The highest infection rates were observed in 21-30-year-old donors. The prevalence of hepatitis B and C were higher among first-time, married, and male donors. Hepatitis B and C frequencies indicated a decreasing trend, reaching 2 and 0.4 per 1000 in 2016 from the initial 5.2 and 0.55 per 1000 in 2011, respectively. The results of the Chi-square statistical test showed that the difference in the number of people who had hepatitis in the period of 2011-2016 had a statistically significant decreasing trend (P < 0.001).Conclusion: The prevalence of hepatitis B and C infections in blood donors declined from 2011 to 2016. It is recommended to continue screening tests and educate donors to even lower blood-borne viral infections among Jiroft blood donors.
