    Abstract Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in a greater workload in the health care system. Therefore, health care professionals (HCPs) continue to experience high levels of stress, resulting in mental health disorders. From a preventive perspective, building resilience has been associated with reduced stress and mental health disorders and promotes HCPs' intent to stay. Despite the benefits of resilience training, few studies provided an in-depth understanding of the contextual factors, implementation, and mechanisms of impact that influences the sustainability of resilience programs. Therefore, examining target users' experiences of the resilience program is important. This will provide meaningful information to refine and improve future resilience programs.
    Objective: This qualitative study aims to explore HCPs' experiences of participating in the web-based Building Resilience At Work (BRAW) program. In particular, this study aims to explore the contextual and implementational factors that would influence participants' interaction and outcome from the program.
    Methods: A descriptive qualitative approach using individual semistructured Zoom interviews was conducted with participants of the web-based resilience program. A framework analysis was conducted, and it is guided by the process evaluation framework.
    Results: A total of 33 HCPs participated in this qualitative study. Three themes depicting participants' experiences, interactions, and impacts from the BRAW program were elucidated from the framework analysis: learning from web-based tools, interacting with the BRAW program, and promoting participants' workforce readiness.
    Conclusions: Findings show that a web-based asynchronous and self-paced resilience program is an acceptable and feasible approach for HCPs. The program also led to encouraging findings on participants' resilience, intent to stay, and employability. However, continued refinements in the components of the web-based resilience program should be carried out to ensure the sustainability of this intervention.

    Abstract The rising prevalence of obesity in Singapore is a harbinger for a corresponding increase in obesity-related complications such as type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and coronary heart disease. Obesity is a complex disease driven by multiple factors, and hence, treatment cannot follow a 'one-size-fits-all' approach. Lifestyle modifications involving dietary interventions, physical activity and behavioural changes remain the cornerstone of obesity management. However, similar to other chronic diseases such as T2DM and hypertension, lifestyle modifications are often insufficient on their own, hence the importance of other treatment modalities including pharmacotherapy, endoscopic bariatric therapy and metabolic-bariatric surgery. Weight loss medications currently approved in Singapore include phentermine, orlistat, liraglutide and naltrexone-bupropion. In recent years, endoscopic bariatric therapies have evolved as an effective, minimally invasive and durable therapeutic option for obesity. Metabolic-bariatric surgery remains the most effective and durable treatment for patients with severe obesity, with an average weight loss of 25%-30% after one year.

    Abstract Recent advancements in lactoferrin research have uncovered that lactoferrin does function not only as an antimicrobial protein but also as an immunomodulatory, anticancer, and neuroprotective agent. Focusing on neuroprotection, this literature review delineates how lactoferrin interacts in the brain, specifically its neuroprotective effects and mechanisms against Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases (AD and PD), the two most common neurodegenerative diseases. The neuroprotective pathways involving surface receptors (heparan sulfate proteoglycan (HSPG) and lactoferrin receptor (LfR)), signaling pathways (extracellular regulated protein kinase-cAMP response element-binding protein (ERK-CREB) and phosphoinositide 3-kinase/Akt (PI3K/Akt)), and effector proteins (A disintegrin and metalloprotease10 (ADAM10) and hypoxia-inducible factor 1α (HIF-1α)) in cortical/hippocampal and dopaminergic neurons are described. These cellular effects of lactoferrin are likely responsible for attenuating cognitive and motor deficits, amyloid-β and α-synuclein accumulation, and neurodegeneration in animal and cellular models of AD and PD. This review also discusses the inconsistent findings related to the neuroprotective effects of lactoferrin against AD. Overall, this review contributes to the existing literature by clarifying the potential neuroprotective effects and mechanisms of lactoferrin in the context of AD and PD neuropathology.

    Abstract A mandatory self-quarantine is necessary for those who return from overseas or any red zone areas. It is important that the self-quarantine is conducted without the non-adherence issue occurring and causes the self-quarantine individual to be the carrier of the COVID-19 in the community. To navigate and resolve this issue, most countries have implemented a series of COVID-19 monitoring and tracing systems. However, there are some restrictions and limitation which can lead to intentional non-adherence. The quarantined individuals can still travel within the community by removing the wristband or simply providing an incorrect contact status in the tracing application. In this paper, a novel configuration for mandatory self-quarantine system is proposed. It will enable interaction between the wearable and contact tracing technologies to ensure that the authorities have total control of the system. The hardware of the proposed system in the wearable device is low in cost, lightweight and safe to use for the next user after the quarantine is completed. The software (software and database) that linked between the quarantine user and normal user utilizes edge artificial intelligence (AI) for reporting and flagging mechanisms.

    Abstract The field of onco-microbiome is rapidly expanding. Multiple studies have shown the crucial role of gut microbiota in the regulation of nutrient metabolism, immunomodulation and protection against pathogens. Tools for manipulating the gut microbiota include dietary modification and faecal microbiota transfer. Accumulating evidence has also documented the application of specific intestinal microbiome in cancer immunotherapy, notably in enhancing the efficacy of immune checkpoint inhibitors. The aim of this review is to focus on the East Asian microbiome and to provide a current overview of microbiome science and its clinical application in cancer biology and immunotherapy.
