Abstract Gentamicin (GM) is a broadly used antibiotic against severe and life-threatening infections, but its efficacy is restricted by the development of liver toxicity. The present study was designed to evaluate the protective effect of salicylic acid (SA) in gentamicin-induced hepatotoxicity in rabbits. Gentamicin and salicylic acid were given at a dose of 80 mg/kg i.p for twenty days. For this purpose, 24 male albino rabbits were randomly divided into four groups. Group I remained untreated and served as control. Group II was given gentamicin, group III was given gentamicin along with Salicylic acid (SA) and group IV was given only salicylic acid. The degree of hepatoprotection was measured by assessment of body weight, liver weight, absolute liver weight and estimations of plasma aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), total and direct bilirubin, tissue malondialdehyde (MDA), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) activities. Significant reduction in the elevated liver weight, plasma levels of AST, ALT, bilirubin and tissue MDA and significant elevation in reduced body weight, SOD and CAT activities were found that confirms the protective role of salicylic acid in gentamicin induced hepatotoxicity.

Abstract Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), a leading cause of cancer related deaths is predominantly driven by chronic inflammatory responses. Due to asymptomatic nature and lack of early patient biopsies, precise involvement of inflammation in hepatic injury initiation remains unidentified. Aim of the study was to elucidate the regulation patterns of inflammatory signalling from initiation of hepatic injury to development of HCC. HCC mice model was established using DEN followed by repeated doses of CCl

Abstract Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a destructive disease with a poor prognosis, low survival rate and high rate of metastasis. It comprises 15% of total breast cancers and is marked by deficiency of three important receptor expressions, i.e., progesterone, estrogen, and human epidermal growth factor receptors. This absence of receptors is the foremost cause of current TNBC therapy failure, resulting in poor therapeutic response in patients. Polymeric nanoparticles are gaining much popularity for transporting chemotherapeutics, genes, and small-interfering RNAs. Due to their exclusive properties such as great stability, easy surface modification, stimuli-responsive and controlled drug release, ability to condense more than one therapeutic moiety inside, tumor-specific delivery of payload, enhanced permeation and retention effect, present them as ideal nanocarriers for increasing efficacy, bioavailability and reducing the toxicity of therapeutic agents. They can even be used as theragnostic agents for the diagnosis of TNBC along with its treatment. In this review, we discuss the limitations of already existing TNBC therapies and highlight the novel approach to designing and the functionalization of polymeric nanocarriers for the effective treatment of TNBC.

Abstract Background: Sepsis, the life-threatening host response to infection, is a major cause of mortality. Obesity increases vulnerability to sepsis; however, some degree of obesity may be protective, called the "obesity paradox". This scoping review systematically maps the literature on outcomes associated with diet-induced obesity and sepsis-induced organ injury, focusing on non-transgenic murine models.
Methods: A literature search of primary articles was conducted from database inception to June 2023. Eligible articles compared diet-induced obesity to non-obese mice in sepsis models involving live pathogens. Two reviewers screened articles and extracted data on obesogenic and sepsis models utilized, and organ injury outcomes, including physiological dysfunction, histological alterations, and biochemical changes.
Results: Seventeen studies met eligibility criteria; 82% used male C57BL/6 mice, and 88% used cecal ligation and puncture to induce sepsis. Most studies used 60% high-fat diets compared to 10-16% fat in controls. Seven (64%) studies reported increased mortality in obese septic mice, one (9%) observed a decrease, and three (37%) found no significant difference. The liver, lungs, and kidneys were the most studied organs. Alanine transaminase results were inconclusive. Myeloperoxidase levels were increased in the livers of two studies and inconclusive in the lungs of obese septic mice. Creatinine and neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin were elevated in obese septic mice.
Conclusions: There is variability in the methodology and measured outcomes in murine models of diet-induced obesity and sepsis and a lack of studies in female mice. The absence of standardized models has produced conflicting findings on the impact of obesity on sepsis outcomes.

Abstract Algae are exclusively aquatic photosynthetic organisms that are microscopic or macroscopic, unicellular or multicellular and distributed across the globe. They are a potential source of food, feed, medicine and natural pigments. A variety of natural pigments are available from algae including chlorophyll a, b, c d, phycobiliproteins, carotenes and xanthophylls. The xanthophylls include acyloxyfucoxanthin, alloxanthin, astaxanthin, crocoxanthin, diadinoxanthin, diatoxanthin, fucoxanthin, loroxanthin, monadoxanthin, neoxanthin, nostoxanthin, perdinin, Prasinoxanthin, siphonaxanthin, vaucheriaxanthin, violaxanthin, lutein, zeaxanthin, β-cryptoxanthin, while carotenes include echinenone, α-carotene, β-carotene, γ-carotene, lycopene, phytoene, phytofluene. These pigments have applications as pharmaceuticals and nutraceuticals and in the food industry for beverages and animal feed production. The conventional methods for the extraction of pigments are solid-liquid extraction, liquid-liquid extraction and soxhlet extraction. All these methods are less efficient, time-consuming and have higher solvent consumption. For a standardized extraction of natural pigments from algal biomass advanced procedures are in practice which includes Supercritical fluid extraction, Pressurized liquid extraction, Microwave-assisted extraction, Pulsed electric field, Moderate electric field, Ultrahigh pressure extraction, Ultrasound-assisted extraction, Subcritical dimethyl ether extraction, Enzyme assisted extraction and Natural deep eutectic solvents. In the present review, these methods for pigment extraction from algae are discussed in detail.
