Abstract The measurement of three-dimensional samples at high speed is essential for many applications, either due to the requirement for measuring samples that change fast over time, or due to the requirement of reducing the scanning time, and therefore inspection cost, in industrial environments. Conventionally, the measurement of surface topographies at high resolution typically requires an axial scanning of the sample. We report the implementation of a technique able to reconstruct surface topographies at high resolution, only from the acquisition of a single camera shot, dropping the need to perform an axial scan. A system prototype is reported and assessed as an ultra-fast optical surface profiler. We propose robust calibration and operation methods and algorithms to reconstruct surface topographies of optically-rough samples, and compare the experimental results with a reference confocal optical profiler.

Abstract Purpose of review: Targeted radionuclide therapy (TRNT) is characterized by systemic administration of radiolabelled drugs, targeting specific molecular alterations expressed on the tumour cells. Small molecules, labelled with β- or α- emitting radioisotopes, are used to deliver radiation directly to the tumour sites. Pretreatment imaging to visualize whole body biodistribution of the target, using the same drugs labelled with positron or γ-emitting radionuclides, completes the concept of theranostic. This review will briefly summarize the current clinical research findings and applications of TRNT in solid tumours, mostly focusing on neuroendocrine and prostate neoplasms.
Recent findings: Peptide receptor radionuclide therapy is a major component in the management of gastroentropancreatic neuroendocrine tumours, with favourable safety profile, quality-of-life improvement and survival benefit. On the NETTER-1 study, it proved to be more effective than high-dose long-acting-release octreotide, leading to its regulatory approval. Prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) is an excellent target for TRNT in prostate cancer. 177Lu-PSMA radioligand therapy demonstrated higher response rates in patients with metastatic castration resistant prostate cancer, when compared with second-line chemotherapy. New developments, including targeting of fibroblast activation proteins overexpressed in the tumour stroma, show promising preliminary results in the theranostic setting.
Summary: Recent research has demonstrated and consolidated the use of TRNT against well established targets in neuroendocrine tumours and prostate cancer. The identification of new promising molecular targets for TRNT, will further expand the theranostic applications of radionuclides in the field of nuclear medicine.

Abstract Additive manufactured surfaces, especially metal powder bed fusion surfaces, present unique challenges for measurement because of their complex topographies. To address these measurement challenges, optimisation of the measurement process is required. Using a statistical approach, sensitivity analyses were performed on measurement settings found on a commercial programmable array scanning confocal microscope. The instrument measurement process parameters were compared by their effects on three quality indicators: the areal surface texture parameter Sa , measurement noise, and number of non-measured points. An analysis was performed using a full factorial design of experiments for both the top and side surfaces of test surfaces made from Inconel 718 and Ti-6Al-4V using powder bed fusion. The results indicated that measurements of metal additive surfaces are robust to changes in the measurement control parameters for Sa , with variations within 5% of the mean parameter value for the same objective, surface, and measured area. The number of non-measured points and the measurement noise were more varied and were affected by the choice of measurement control parameters, but such changes could be predicted by the statistical models. The contribution offered by this work is an increased understanding of imaging confocal microscopy measurement of metal additive surfaces, along with the establishment of good practice guidance for measurements.

Abstract The thermophysical properties of three pyridinium-based ionic liquids sharing ions were measured at several temperatures (278.15-338.15) K and at atmospheric pressure (0.1 MPa). Three ionic liquids were studied: 1-butylpyridinium bis(trifluoromethyl-sulfonyl)imide, 1-hexylpyridinium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide, and 1-hexylpyridinium tetrafluoroborate. The following thermophysical properties were measured: density, speed of sound, refractive index, surface tension, isobaric molar heat capacity, kinematic viscosity, and electrical conductivity. The thermophysical properties at atmospheric pressure were correlated with temperature, noting that the starting temperature for the speed of sound measurements depended on the ionic liquid. From these experimental results, some derived properties (isentropic compressibility, molar refraction, and dynamic viscosity) are calculated. These results together with those published previously for 1-butylpyridinium tetrafluoroborate are discussed.

Abstract Objectives: The primary objective of the present study is to compare the radiographic outcomes and complications of two different techniques for lateral closing-wedge osteotomy in pediatric patients with cubitus varus.
Methods: We retrospectively identified patients treated at five tertiary care institutions: 17 underwent the Kirschner-wire (KW) technique, and 15 patients were treated with the mini external fixator (MEF) technique. Demographic data, previous treatment, pre- and postoperative carrying angle (CA), complications and additional procedures were recorded. Radiographic evaluation included assessment of the humerus-elbow-wrist angle (HEW), and the lateral prominence index (LPI).
Results: Patients treated with both KW and MEF achieved significant improvements in clinical alignment (mean pre-op CA -16 ± 6.1 degrees to mean post-op 8.9 ± 5.3 degrees, P < 0.001). There were no differences in final radiographic alignment or radiographic union time; however, time to achieve full elbow motion was faster in the MEF group (13.6 versus 34.3 weeks, P = 0.4547). Two patients (11.8%) in the KW group experienced complications, including one superficial infection and one failed correction that required unplanned revision surgery. Eleven patients in the MEF group underwent a planned second surgical procedure for hardware removal.
Conclusions: Both fixation techniques are effective at correcting cubitus varus in the pediatric population. The MEF technique may have the advantage of shorter recovery of elbow range of motion but may require sedation for hardware removal. The KW technique may present a slightly higher complication rate.

Abstract Background: Uterine embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma (uERMS) in adult women is a very rare malignant entity. The study aim was to report a case of adult uERMS and to discuss the implications of histopathological diagnosis on the treatment and prognosis.
Case presentation: We present here the clinicopathological features of a uERMS case in an adult woman. The study has been approved by the institutional Ethics Committee and an informed consent has been obtained (IJB∕CE3005). A 45-year-old woman presented to her gynecologist with intermenstrual bleedings and polypoid cervical mass (initially interpreted as benign polyp). A second biopsy was sent to our Department of Pathology at the Jules Bordet Institute, Brussels, Belgium for revision and was reinterpreted as botryoid-type uERMS. The patient underwent a total hysterectomy. The final pathology confirms a 3 cm cervical ERMS, and a simple surveillance was decided by our multidisciplinary team. Six months later, pelvic magnetic resonance imaging control showed a recurrence in the right pelvic lymph nodes. Multi-drug chemotherapy and radiotherapy were done before surgical resection. Pathological examination of the resected pelvic mass confirmed uERMS recurrence of 60 mm, with large zones of necrosis and the presence of cartilaginous structures. The patient is free of disease 60 months after diagnosis.
Conclusions: Adult uERMS is rare and the pathological examination is the main element for diagnosis and treatment. It is often confused with other benign entities, at least at the time of diagnosis. ERMS should be included in the differential diagnosis of cervical and uterine polyp of adult women. Long-term survival is possible with a multimodal therapy approach.
