Abstract Objective: The aims of this systematic review and meta-analysis were to produce a comprehensive survey of the serum levels of interleukins (ILs) in untreated people with endometriosis compared with people without endometriosis.
Data sources: A systematic literature search of English language studies within Cinahl, Medline Complete, PubMed, and Scopus from inception to May 2023 was performed.
Methods of study selection: We included studies that compared IL serum levels in people with endometriosis to those without endometriosis. Meta-analysis was performed on IL-1RA, IL-1β, IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, IL-12, IL-17A, IL-18, IL-23, and IL-37.
Tabulation, integration, and results: The systematic search retrieved 651 studies, of which 77 underwent a full-text review. A total of 30 studies met inclusion criteria for the meta-analysis. IL-1Ra, IL-6, and IL-37 serum levels were 2.56 (95% CI 2.20-2.92, p <.001), 1.38 (95% CI 0.58-2.17, p <.001), and 1.77 (95% CI 1.33-2.20, p <.001) standard deviations higher in the patients with endometriosis compared with patients without endometriosis while IL-23 serum levels 0.40 (95% CI -0.73 to -0.07, p = .02) standard deviations lower, respectively.
Conclusion: There is mounting evidence that ILs, especially IL-6, may be good candidates for unique noninvasive diagnostic tools and/or treatment pathways for endometriosis.

Abstract Traditional dialects have been encroached upon by the increasing mobility of their speakers and by the onslaught of national languages in education and mass media. Typically, older dialects are "leveling" to become more like national languages. This is regrettable when the last articulate traces of a culture are lost, but it also promotes a complex dynamics of interaction as speakers shift from dialect to standard and to intermediate compromises between the two in their forms of speech. Varieties of speech thus live on in modern communities, where they still function to mark provenance, but increasingly cultural and social provenance as opposed to pure geography. They arise at times from the need to function throughout the different groups in society, but they also may have roots in immigrants' speech, and just as certainly from the ineluctable dynamics of groups wishing to express their identity to themselves and to the world

Abstract A 16-year-old primigravida was diagnosed with COVID-19 in her second trimester. She decompensated quickly and had to be admitted to hospital and intubated. She was diagnosed with a fetal demise after being intubated and neurology suspected myasthenia gravis due to neurologic symptoms. Due to pan-sinusitis and increased mucus secretion, cystic fibrosis screening was ordered. After she was extubated, cervical ripening and induction was performed with eventual vaginal delivery without maternal complications. Myasthenia gravis and cystic fibrosis carrier status were confirmed after the patient was discharged.

Abstract Background: Powered air-purifying respirators are in short supply and can break down with extended use. Replacement parts can become hard to acquire. The aim of this study was to create an innovative quality improvement proof of concept using rapid prototyping.
Methods: Here we report three cases of 3D printed powered air-purifying respirator parts. 3D printing was performed on all parts using fused deposition modeling with standard polylactic acid, in the same way that presurgical models would be created. Measurements using an electronic caliper as well as CT scans were used to compare an original part to its corresponding 3D printed parts for accuracy.
Results: Electronic caliper and computed tomography measurements both showed accuracy consistant with current published norms.
Conclusions: Ultimately, there will be questions surrounding intellectual property, effectiveness and potential long-term safety for these types of 3D printed parts. Future research should look into the addition of specific nanoparticles from the position of cost, efficacy, safety and improved accuracy.

Abstract Background: An obesity paradox, whereby patients with higher body mass index (BMI) experience improved outcomes, has been described for ischemic stroke. It is unclear whether this applies to patients undergoing mechanical thrombectomy (MT) for large vessel occlusion (LVO).
Methods: Mechanical thrombectomies for anterior circulation LVO between 2015 and 2021 at a single institution were reviewed. Multivariable logistic regressions were used to determine the association between BMI and favorable functional outcome (90-day modified Rankin Scale 0-2), intracranial hemorrhage, and malignant middle cerebral infarction. A systematic review was performed to identify studies reporting the effect of BMI on outcomes among patients receiving MT for LVO. The data from the systematic review were combined with the institutional data by using a random effects model.
Results: The institutional cohort comprised 390 patients with a median BMI of 27 kg/m
Conclusions: Obesity is not associated with favorable outcomes in patients undergoing MT for LVO.

Abstract A microfluidic paper-based analytical device (μPAD) is a cost-effective platform to implement assays, especially for point-of-care testing. Developing μPADs with fluidic control is important to implement multistep assays and provide high sensitivities. However, current localized delays in μPADs made of sucrose have a limited ability to decrease the flow rate. In addition, existing μPADs for automatic multistep assays are limited by their need for auxiliary instruments, their false activation, or their unavoidable tradeoff between available fluid volumes and temporal differences between steps. Here, a novel μPAD composed of a localized dissolvable delay and a horizontal motion mechanical valve for use as an automatic multistep assay is reported. A mixture of fructose and sucrose was used in the localized dissolvable delay and it provided an effective decrease in the flow rate to ensure adequate sensitivity in an assay. The dissolvable delay effectively doubled the flow time. A mechanical valve using a horizontal movement was developed to automatically implement a multistep process. Two-step and four-step processes were enabled with the μPAD. Cardiac troponin I (cTnI), a gold-standard biomarker for myocardial infarction, was used as a model analyte to show the performance of the developed μPAD in an assay. The designed μPAD, with the simple-to-make localized dissolvable delay and the robust mechanical valve, provides the potential to automatically implement high-performance multistep assays toward a versatile platform for point-of-care diagnostics.
