Abstract Aims: Vitiligo is a multifactorial, acquired skin disease of unknown etiology characterized by depigmented patches caused by melanocyte loss. The ratio of the second to fourth digits (2D:4D) is believed to be a marker of prenatal androgen exposure. Among the many hypotheses for melanocyte loss, one is that sex hormones may play a role in the development of vitiligo. In this study, we aimed to investigate a possible relationship between vitiligo and 2D:4D ratios.
Material and methods: The participants in this study were healthy volunteers and patients with vitiligo. This study included 100 patients with vitiligo and 110 healthy controls. An electronic Vernier caliper was employed to measure the finger lengths. The Vitiligo Extent Tensity Index was used to rate the severity of vitiligo (VETI).
Results: The study included 100 patients with vitiligo and 110 healthy volunteers of similar age and gender. The mean age of patients with vitiligo was 27.000 ± 13.000 years for females and 30.612 ± 9.112 years for males, and the study sample included 54 (49.09%) females and 56 (50.91%) male patients. Patients' 2D:4D ratios were significantly lower than those of the controls for right hands (p = 0.0001). For left hands, there was no correlation between the 2D:4D ratio (p = 0.740). There was no statistically significant correlation between the VETI score and the 2D/4D ratio (left hand, p = 0.136; right hand p = 0.329).
Conclusion: To our knowledge, this is the first study to look at the link between 2D:4D ratios and vitiligo in the literature. The findings obtained in this study suggest that the 2D:4D ratio may be a predictor of vitiligo development.

Abstract Background: Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a functional gastrointestinal disease characterized by chronic abdominal pain and changes in bowel movements without underlying organic pathology. Many skin diseases have been reported to be more common in individuals with functional bowel diseases.
Aims: In this study, we aimed to investigate a possible relationship between acne vulgaris (AV) and IBS.
Patients/methods: This prospective controlled study included patients with AV and healthy volunteers. All the subjects were evaluated in terms of the presence of IBS. The diagnosis of IBS was made based on the ROME IV diagnostic criteria. The clinical severity of AV was calculated using the global acne grading system (GAGS).
Results: A total of 300 patients with acne vulgaris and 300 age and gender-matched healthy controls were included in the study. The majority of the patients were female (n = 175, 58.3%). The mean ages of the patients and controls were 20.22 ± 5.24 years and 20.49 ± 5.36 years, respectively. A total of 183 patients (61.0%) and 84 (28.0%) controls were diagnosed with IBS based on the Rome IV diagnostic criteria. The frequency of IBS was statistically significantly higher in the patient group than in the control group. (P = .001). There was also statistically significant relationship between the GAGS scores and IBS diagnosis (P = .001), abnormal stool form (P = .001), abdominal distention (P = .001), and feeling of incomplete evacuation (P = .001).
Conclusion: Our study showed that IBS is significantly more common in patients with AV than in healthy controls. Additionally, GAGS scores were higher in patients diagnosed with IBS. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study focusing on the subject.

Abstract Background: Alopecia areata (AA) is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by non-cicatricial hair loss. The cause of the disease is still unknown. It can appear at any age and occurs in 0.2% of the general population. Red cell distribution width (RDW), mean platelet volume (MPV), plateletcrit (PCT), the ratio of neutrophils to lymphocytes (NLR), and the ratio of platelets to lymphocytes (PLR) have all been reported as inflammatory markers in recent studies. However, these parameters have not been investigated in AA patients.
Aim: We investigated the haematological and inflammatory parameters of AA and considered their association with disease severity.
Patients/methods: One hundred and five patients with AA and 108 healthy controls were enrolled in the study. RDW, MPV, PCT, NLR, PLR, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), and C-reactive protein (CRP) were studied retrospectively. Disease severity was evaluated by using the Severity of Alopecia Tool (SALT) score.
Results: There were no statistically significant differences between RDW, MPV, PCT, NLR, and PLR levels in AA patients and in healthy controls. Only the CRP values were significantly higher in the AA group.
Conclusion: Complete blood count (CBC) parameters are low-cost tests that can be used to define inflammation levels in inflammatory diseases. Our study shows that CRP can be used as a marker in diagnosing AA.
