Abstract Background: There is conflicting evidence as to the impact of mental health treatment on outcomes in patients with heart disease. The aim of this study was to examine whether individuals who received mental health treatment for anxiety or depression after being hospitalized for ischemic disorders or heart failure had a reduced frequency of rehospitalizations, emergency department visits, or mortality compared with those who did not receive treatment.
Methods and results: A population-based, retrospective, cohort design was used to examine the association between psychotherapy or antidepressant medication prescription and health service utilization and mortality in patients with coronary artery disease or heart failure and comorbid anxiety or depression. Those receiving versus not receiving mental health treatment were compared based on the frequency of rehospitalization, emergency department visits, and mortality. The study sample included 1563 patients who had a mean age of 50.1 years. Individuals who received both forms of mental health treatment for anxiety or depression were 75% less likely to be rehospitalized, 74% less likely to have an emergency department visit, and 66% less likely to die from any cause.
Conclusions: Mental health treatment for anxiety or depression has a significant impact on outcomes in patients with cardiovascular disease consisting of reduced hospitalizations, emergency department visits, and in some conditions improved survival.

Abstract Background: This study aimed to establish the elemental profiling and origin combined with the genetic asset of coffee samples collected from major coffee-producing countries. A total of 76 samples were analysed for 41 elements using inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES), inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), and inductively coupled plasma-triple quadrupole mass spectrometry (ICP-MS/MS). The mineral composition of the silver skin detachment during the roasting process was also evaluated to verify the loss of minerals during roasting, differences in composition with beans, and between species.
Results: Application of linear discriminant analysis provided models with an accuracy of 93.3% for continents, 97.8% for countries of cultivation, and 100% for species. Discrimination between Arabica, Canephora coffee, and Eugenoides, and different varieties of Arabica species were identified in both models with calcium (Ca), barium (Ba), cadmium (Cd), rubidium (Rb), and strontium (Sr) as significant discriminant elements. Rb, Sr, sulphur (S), and thulium (Tm) were significant discriminant elements in both models for geographical distinction at different scales. Most of the elements had significantly higher values in silver skin than those in roasted coffee at different magnitudes, with exceptions of P and Rb.
Conclusion: In summary, determination of mineral elements, processed by multivariate statistical analysis, was demonstrated to be discriminant for different coffee species. Linear discriminant analysis of the elemental analysis of samples from the seven major producing countries provided a reliable prediction model. Elemental analysis of major and minor elements is relatively easy and can be used together with other traceability systems and sensory evaluations to authenticate the origin of roasted coffee, different species, and varieties. © 2023 The Authors. Abstract Using kinematic properties of handwriting to support the diagnosis of neurodegenerative disease is a real challenge: non-invasive detection techniques combined with machine learning approaches promise big steps forward in this research field. In literature, the tasks proposed focused on different cognitive skills to elicitate handwriting movements. In particular, the meaning and phonology of words to copy can compromise writing fluency. In this paper, we investigated how word semantics and phonology affect the handwriting of people affected by Alzheimer's disease. To this aim, we used the data from six handwriting tasks, each requiring copying a word belonging to one of the following categories: regular (have a predictable phoneme-grapheme correspondence, e.g., cat), non-regular (have atypical phoneme-grapheme correspondence, e.g., laugh), and non-word (non-meaningful pronounceable letter strings that conform to phoneme-grapheme conversion rules). We analyzed the data using a machine learning approach by implementing four well-known and widely-used classifiers and feature selection. The experimental results showed that the feature selection allowed us to derive a different set of highly distinctive features for each word type. Furthermore, non-regular words needed, on average, more features but achieved excellent classification performance: the best result was obtained on a non-regular, reaching an accuracy close to 90%.

Abstract Background and objective: Numerous radiomics-based models have been proposed to discriminate between central nervous system (CNS) gliomas and primary central nervous system lymphomas (PCNSLs). Given the heterogeneity of the existing models, we aimed to define their overall performance and identify the most critical variables to pilot future algorithms.
Methods: A systematic review of the literature and a meta-analysis were conducted, encompassing 12 studies and a total of 1779 patients, focusing on radiomics to differentiate gliomas from PCNSLs. A comprehensive literature search was performed through PubMed, Ovid MEDLINE, Ovid EMBASE, Web of Science, and Scopus databases. Overall sensitivity (SEN) and specificity (SPE) were estimated. Event rates were pooled using a random-effects meta-analysis, and the heterogeneity was assessed using the χ2 test.
Results: The overall SEN and SPE for differentiation between CNS gliomas and PCNSLs were 88% (95% CI = 0.83 - 0.91) and 87% (95% CI = 0.83 - 0.91), respectively. The best-performing features were the ones extracted from the Gray Level Run Length Matrix (GLRLM; ACC 97%), followed by those obtained from the Neighboring Gray Tone Difference Matrix (NGTDM; ACC 93%), and shape-based features (ACC 91%). The 18F-FDG-PET/CT was the best-performing imaging modality (ACC 97%), followed by the MRI CE-T1W (ACC 87% - 95%). Most studies applied a cross-validation analysis (92%).
Conclusion: The current SEN and SPE of radiomics to discriminate CNS gliomas from PCNSLs are high, making radiomics a helpful method to differentiate these tumor types. The best-performing features are the GLRLM, NGTDM, and shape-based features. The 18F-FDG-PET/CT imaging modality is the best-performing, while the MRI CE-T1W is the most used.
