    Abstract The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is primarily disseminated through physical contact. As a precaution, it is recommended that indoor spaces have a limited number of people and at least one meter apart. This study proposes a real-time method for monitoring physical distancing compliance in indoor spaces using computer vision and deep learning techniques. The proposed method utilizes YOLO (You Only Look Once), a popular convolutional neural network-based object detection model, pre-trained on the Microsoft COCO (Common Objects in Context) dataset to detect persons and estimate their physical distance in real time. The effectiveness of the proposed method was assessed using metrics including accuracy rate, frame per second (FPS), and mean average precision (mAP). The results show that the YOLO v3 model had the most remarkable accuracy (87.07%) and mAP (89.91%). On the other hand, the highest fps rate of up to 18.71 was achieved by the YOLO v5s model. The results demonstrate the potential of the proposed method for effectively monitoring physical distancing compliance in indoor spaces, providing valuable insights for future use in other public health scenarios.

    Abstract As seen in the COVID-19 pandemic, one of the most important measures is physical distance in viruses transmitted from person to person. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), it is mandatory to have a limited number of people in indoor spaces. Depending on the size of the indoors, the number of persons that can fit in that area varies. Then, the size of the indoor area should be measured and the maximum number of people should be calculated accordingly. Computers can be used to ensure the correct application of the capacity rule in indoors monitored by cameras. In this study, a method is proposed to measure the size of a prespecified region in the video and count the people there in real time. According to this method: (1) predetermining the borders of a region on the video, (2) identification and counting of people in this specified region, (3) it is aimed to estimate the size of the specified area and to find the maximum number of people it can take. For this purpose, the You Only Look Once (YOLO) object detection model was used. In addition, Microsoft COCO dataset pre-trained weights were used to identify and label persons. YOLO models were tested separately in the proposed method and their performances were analyzed. Mean average precision (mAP), frame per second (fps), and accuracy rate metrics were found for the detection of persons in the specified region. While the YOLO v3 model achieved the highest value in accuracy rate and mAP (both 0.50 and 0.75) metrics, the YOLO v5s model achieved the highest fps rate among non-Tiny models.

    Abstract Celal Yardımcı 1911 yılında Ağrı Doğubayazıt’ta doğmuştur. Yardımcı TBMM’nin IX, X ve XI. dönemlerinde Ağrı Milletvekili olarak görev yapmıştır. Milletvekilliği sırasında Adalet, Devlet ve Millî Eğitim Bakanlığı görevlerinde bulunmuştur. Demokrat Parti’nin eğitim politikalarını hayata geçiren önemli isimlerden biri olan Celal Yardımcı devlet okullarında yabancı dilde eğitimin yaygınlaşması için önemli çalışmalar yapmıştır. Celal Yardımcı ABD-Türkiye arasında 1950’lerde sonra artan ilişkilerin eğitim alanındaki en önemli mimarlarından biridir. Onun Milli Eğitim Bakanlığı döneminde Türkiye ile ABD arasında eğitim alanından yakın ilişkiler kurulmuştur. Bu yüzden Celal Yardımcı dönemindeki eğitim faaliyetlerine bakmak eğitim alanındaki TürkABD ilişkilerinin anlaşılmasına yardımcı olacaktır. Atatürk, Ege, Karadeniz Teknik ve Ortadoğu Teknik üniversitelerinin kurulmasında ve gelişmesinde önemli rolü olan Celal Yardımcı’nın Türk eğitim sistemine en büyük etkisi ortaöğretim alanında olmuştur. Yardımcı, Türkiye’de yabancı dilde eğitim yapan maarif kolejlerini kurduğunda bu okulların ihtiyacını gidermek için yurtdışından sözleşmeli yabancı öğretmen getirtmiştir. Türkçe-İngilizce eğitim yapan maarif kolejleri günümüz ortaöğretiminin en önemli parçası olan anadolu liselerinin nüvesini oluşturmuştur. Celal Yardımcı ilköğretim ve ortaöğretim alanında okul sayısını önemli ölçüde artırmıştır. İlköğretim Kanunu Meclis’ten çıkarmak için çok çalışmasına rağmen bunda başarılı olamamıştır. Bu yüzden muhalefet milletvekilleri tarafından sıklıkla eleştirilmiştir. Halk eğitimine ve öğretmen yetiştirmeye önem veren Celal Yardımcı üniversite muhtariyeti konusunda muhalefetle karşı karşıya gelmiştir. 27 Mayıs darbesinden sonra tutuklanan Celal Yardımcı Yassıada’da yargılanmış ve müebbet hapse mahkûm edilmiştir. Cezası daha sonra affedilmiş ve Türkiye Büyük Millet Meclisi’nin XVI. döneminde İstanbul Milletvekili olmuştur. Yardımcı 10 Ocak 1986’da İstanbul’da ölmüştür.

    Abstract Introduction: Although it is well known that ganglion impar block (GIB) reduces pain in the short term in patients with chronic coccygodynia, there are insufficient data on long-term treatment outcomes. The aim of this study was to examine the long-term outcomes of patients who underwent GIB for chronic coccygodynia and possible factors that might affect these outcomes.
    Methods: The pre-treatment, 1st-hour, and 3rd-week numeric rating scale (NRS) scores of patients who underwent GIB 36-119 (min-max) months ago (between November 2011 and October 2018) due to coccygodynia were obtained from the medical records. Final NRS scores and presence of factors that may affect success such as accompanying low back pain (LBP) were questioned via telephone interviews. Treatment success was defined as a 50% or more reduction in final NRS scores compared with pre-treatment NRS scores.
    Results: Telephone interviews were made with 70 patients. Treatment success was achieved in 55.7% of the patients. The patients were divided into two groups as those who achieved treatment success (group A) and those who could not (group B) and were compared. The NRS scores at the 3rd week and the number of patients with LBP in the group B were significantly higher than the group A. No serious complications developed in any patients.
    Conclusion: In patients with chronic coccygodynia, GIB is an effective and safe treatment option for pain reduction in the long term. Accompanying LBP and high pain scores in the 3rd week after injection should be considered as parameters that negatively affect long-term treatment success.
