Abstract An aging society is a growing challenge for families, social and rehabilitation service providers, and economies. Information and communication technology-based assistive technology can bolster the independence of older adults (65 years and above) and reduce their burden on caregivers. Currently, there is no unified methodology to assess the effectiveness and acceptance of these technologies. The present study undertakes a scoping review to (1) identify and characterize the methods for assessing the acceptability and usability of information and communication technology-based assistive technologies, (2) explore the advantages and disadvantages of the assessment methods, (3) determine the possibilities of combining the assessment methods and (4) define the most commonly used assessment method and set of outcome measures. The literature was searched in MEDLINE, Scopus, IEEE Cochrane and Web of Science bibliographic databases using the keywords defined by reviewers for articles in English published between 2011 and 2021. Of the 1696 matches, 31 met the inclusion criteria. It was found that a combination of different assessment methods was common in outcome measurements. Of the 31 studies, assessment methods were combined in 21 studies and multiple questionnaires were used in 11 studies. The most common technique of outcome measurement was the use of questionnaires (81%), conducting interviews (48%) and recording usability-performance measures (39%). The advantages and disadvantages of the assessment methods could not be determined in the selected studies in this scoping review.

Abstract Recent research exploring the relationship between the gut and the brain suggests that the condition of the gut microbiota can influence cognitive health. A well-balanced gut microbiota may help reduce inflammation, which is linked to neurodegenerative conditions. Prebiotics, probiotics, and symbiotics are nutritional supplements and functional food components associated with gastrointestinal well-being. The bidirectional communication of the gut-brain axis is essential for maintaining homeostasis, with pre-, pro-, and symbiotics potentially affecting various cognitive functions such as attention, perception, and memory. Numerous studies have consistently shown that incorporating pre-, pro-, and symbiotics into a healthy diet can lead to improvements in cognitive functions and mood. Maintaining a healthy gut microbiota can support optimal cognitive function, which is crucial for disease prevention in our fast-paced, Westernized society. Our results indicate cognitive benefits in healthy older individuals with probiotic supplementation but not in healthy older individuals who have good and adequate levels of physical activity. Additionally, it appears that there are cognitive benefits in patients with mild cognitive impairment and Alzheimer's disease, while mixed results seem to arise in younger and healthier individuals. However, it is important to acknowledge that individual responses may vary, and the use of these dietary supplements should be tailored to each individual's unique health circumstances and needs.

Abstract In the past, selection of intermediate clinical endpoints (ICEs) in prostate cancer (PCa) trials largely depended on qualitative assessments; however, the advancing quality of research necessitates a robust correlation with overall survival (OS). This review summarises the results from several high-quality meta-analyses that explored the validity of ICEs as surrogates for OS. We found strong evidence that metastasis-free survival can serve as an ICE in localized PCa. In advanced disease, valid ICEs were identified only within the context of metastatic hormone-sensitive PCa, including radiological and clinical progression-free survival; however, concerns remain regarding their use owing to the limited generalisability of the data used to validate their surrogacy. PATIENT SUMMARY: Intermediate clinical endpoints can reduce the costs of trials and allow earlier introduction of new treatment methods. This article summarises results from studies verifying the validity of these endpoints as surrogates for overall survival.

Title translation Current therapeutic and familial implications of the genetic background of prostate cancer.
Abstract Genetic testing for prostate cancer (PC) is becoming more widely used in the clinical routine, primarily due to the introduction of PARP inhibitors targeting genetically affected patients in their BRCA1/2 and other homologous recombination repair (HRR) genes. Simultaneously, the number of available therapies that are specifically targeting genetically defined PC subgroups is steadily increasing. As a result, the selection of treatment for PC patients is likely to require testing of multiple genes to enable more specific treatment sequences that consider the genetic characteristics of the tumor. Some of the mutations discovered by genetic testing may be hereditary, necessitating the use of germline testing from normal tissue, which is only permitted within the framework of clinical counseling. This change in PC care requires the collaboration by multiple specialists, including experts in molecular pathology, bioinformatics, biology, and genetic counseling. In this review, we aim to provide an overview on the currently relevant genetic alterations in PC for therapeutic purposes and their implications for familial testing.
