Abstract Bacterial biofilms are intricate ecosystems of microbial communities that adhere to various surfaces and are enveloped by an extracellular matrix composed of polymeric substances. Within the context of bacterial biofilms, extracellular DNA (eDNA) originates from cell lysis or is actively secreted, where it exerts a significant influence on the formation, stability, and resistance of biofilms to environmental stressors. The exploration of eDNA within bacterial biofilms holds paramount importance in research, with far-reaching implications for both human health and the environment. An enhanced understanding of the functions of eDNA in biofilm formation and antibiotic resistance could inspire the development of strategies to combat biofilm-related infections and improve the management of antibiotic resistance. This comprehensive review encapsulates the latest discoveries concerning eDNA, encompassing its origins, functions within bacterial biofilms, and significance in bacterial pathogenesis.

Abstract This work presents a single-core bowl-shaped bottom-side polished (BSP) photonic crystal fiber (PCF) sensor based on surface plasmon resonance (SPR) concept for the early detection of hazardous cancer cells in human blood, skin, cervical, breast, and adrenal glands. We have studied liquid samples of cancer-affected and healthy samples with their concentrations/refractive indices in the sensing medium. To induce a plasmonic effect in the PCF sensor, the bottom flat section of a silica PCF fiber is coated with a 40nm plasmonic material, such as gold. To strengthen this effect, a thin TiO

Abstract Neurofibroma of the scrotum is a very uncommon benign neoplasm, specifically when it affects teenagers and is not associated with neurofibromatosis type I. To the best of our knowledge, only a couple of cases of neurofibroma in children have been documented. Here, we report a case study of a 17-year-old boy who had a giant scrotal lump for ten years masquerading clinically as filariasis. A provisional diagnosis of benign nerve sheath neoplasm was made based on cytology findings. The lump was surgically removed from the patient, and a histopathological and immunohistochemistry examination established the diagnosis of neurofibroma. The combined clinical, preoperative cytological, histological, and immunohistochemistry findings were not presented in the literature in any of the formerly documented cases of scrotal neurofibroma. The current case expands the spectrum of differential diagnoses for scrotal tumours that clinicians have previously observed.

Abstract The rebuilding of the normal functioning of the damaged human body bone tissue is one of the main objectives of bone tissue engineering (BTE). Fabricated scaffolds are mostly treated as artificial supports and as materials for regeneration of neo bone tissues and must closely biomimetic the native extracellular matrix of bone. The materials used for developing scaffolds should be biodegradable, nontoxic, and biocompatible. For the resurrection of bone disorder, specifically natural and synthetic polymers such as chitosan, PCL, gelatin, PGA, PLA, PLGA, etc. meet the requirements for serving their functions as artificial bone substitute materials. Gelatin is one of the potential candidates which could be blended with other polymers or composites to improve its physicochemical, mechanical, and biological performances as a bone graft. Scaffolds are produced by several methods including electrospinning, self-assembly, freeze-drying, phase separation, fiber drawing, template synthesis, etc. Among them, freeze-drying and electrospinning are among the popular, simplest, versatile, and cost-effective techniques. The design and preparation of freeze-dried and electrospun scaffolds are of intense research over the last two decades. Freeze-dried and electrospun scaffolds offer a distinctive architecture at the micro to nano range with desired porosity and pore interconnectivity for selective movement of small biomolecules and play its role as an appropriate matrix very similar to the natural bone extracellular matrix. This review focuses on the properties and functionalization of gelatin-based polymer and its composite in the form of bone scaffolds fabricated primarily using lyophilization and electrospinning technique and their applications in BTE.

Abstract The goal of this study is to introduce an effective load frequency control scheme with the integration of tidal turbines in a standalone microgrid (μG) system. As standalone μG experiences lower inertia and lacks primary frequency control, the use of variable tidal turbines in the de-loaded region may be accepted as one of the feasible solutions for managing frequency regulation issues. In this condition, the de-load region alludes to an area where tidal turbines liberate their accumulated kinetic energy in rotational parts pursuing frequency fluctuations. An effectual cascade fractional order fuzzy PID-integral double derivative (CFOFPID-IDD) controller suggested for efficient utilization of tidal turbines, whose design variables are tuned through a recently appeared Jaya algorithm. An investigation is made between the acquired outcomes of the studied CFOFPID-IDD droop controller with fractional order fuzzy PID droop control to analyze the proposed strategy performance in various load conditions, with different physical constraints like time delay, dead zone, and generation rate constraints. Moreover, the sensitivity test reveals that the Jaya-optimized CFOFPID-IDD controller can undergo ± (10-25) % variation in various coefficients without retuning the design variable values. The simulation outcomes validate the effectiveness and adequacy of the proposed regulator.

Abstract Introduction: Psoriasis is a chronic non infectious recurrent papulosquamous inflammatory disorder characterised by vascular alterations such as angiogenesis, dilatation, increased endothelial venule generation, epidermal keratinocyte hyperproliferation, and aberrant differentiation, and lymphocytic invasion of T-cells. The aetiopathogenesis of disease is influenced by both hereditary and environmental factors. Pathogenesis is significantly influenced by immune dysregulation, which affects both innate and acquired immunity. A relatively recent medication for the management of moderate to severe plaque psoriasis is apremilast, an oral phosphodiesterase-4 inhibitor. Compared to other immune-suppressing drugs used in psoriasis apremilast causes no reactivation of tuberculosis or opportunistic infections, does not need dose adjustment in elderly or patients with hepatic impairment, and is not contraindicated in diabetes, ischaemic heart disease, or congestive cardiac failure. Due to its advantage of the absence of the need for laboratory monitoring, the patients on long-term methotrexate can also be switched to apremilast. Aim: To evaluate the histopathological changes in the skin of all plaque psoriatic patients treated with oral drug apremilast. Materials and Methods: This hospital-based prospective study was done in the Department of Pathology at the Rajasthan University of Health Sciences (RUHS), Jaipur, India for a period of one year from February 2020 to January 2021 comparing the efficacy of Apremilast clinically by evaluating plaque psoriasis patients’ by Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) scores. Patients of all age groups with a clinical diagnosis of psoriasis were subjected to a punch biopsy from an active lesion by a dermatologist. For histopathological examination, biopsy was taken from the lesion before starting treatment with apremilast and after four weeks of apremilast therapy. The subsequent changes in the form of histopathological score and PASI score were analysed and compared with the ...
