    Abstract Children are susceptible to infection with the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. In this time of uncertainty, this review attempts to compile information that may be helpful to pediatric neurologists. This review consolidates current data on the disease associated with SARS-CoV-2, called COVID-19, and information from past coronavirus epidemics, to discuss diseases of pediatric neurology including Guillain-Barre syndrome (acute inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy); central demyelinating diseases like multiple sclerosis and acute disseminated encephalomyelitis; infantile spasms; febrile seizures; and maternal-fetal transmission of virus.

    Abstract Horse owners seek the advice and support of a number of equestrian professionals in carrying out their duty of care for their animal. In some instances, these professionals form a multi-disciplinary team (MDT). The aim of this study was to explore the experiences of the Society of Master Saddlers' qualified saddle fitters (SMSQSFs) working with other professionals and to understand the nature of inter-disciplinary working from an SMSQSF perspective. Semi-structured, one-to-one online interviews with fourteen SMSQSFs were completed. Areas explored included the nature of the participant's client base; the frequency and nature of their interactions with other professionals; their perceptions of horse owner expectations of an MDT approach; and any benefits, challenges, and barriers to an MDT approach within an equestrian setting. Interviews were video and audio recorded (MS Teams), transcribed verbatim (Otter ai), and imported into qualitative data analysis software (NVivo, version 12). Data were analysed using thematic analysis. Six themes were identified: (1) effective communication; (2) multidisciplinary expectations; (3) horse welfare; (4) professionalism; (5) relationships; (6) working together. Communication was recognised as a crucial component of an effective MDT. Most participants valued and desired an MDT approach. They felt they had a key role to play within the equestrian MDT, not only in the prevention of deterioration in horse welfare but also in improving the functionality and performance of the horse-rider partnership. Effective MDT working was also seen as having benefits to SMSQSFs and other professional stakeholders alike, although time and financial constraints were identified as barriers to MTD working. The role of the horse owner within the MDT was unclear and potentially complex, and this and other factors such as the professional identity of the SMSQSF, personal relationships, and input from others outside of the MDT team were identified as challenges to effective MDT working. This present study found that SMSQSFs experience similar benefits and challenges to an MDT approach as seen in human healthcare settings. The role of the horse owner, communication, and professional recognition are indicated as pivotal to MDT effectiveness in achieving optimal saddle fit.

    Abstract The American Academy of Neurology (AAN) was founded in 1948, and the Women's Auxiliary to the AAN was founded shortly thereafter. We reviewed historical archives of the AAN and Women's Auxiliary and interviewed past Auxiliary leaders to understand the perception and roles of neurologists' spouses. The Women's Auxiliary to the AAN was originally formed for the wives of neurologist Academy members with the intention of facilitating social and intragroup relationships. The first leaders and members of the organization included some of the spouses of the original Academy founders. With the original scope to provide socialization while the men were at meetings, the male neurologists initially planned much of the Auxiliary's activities. Over time, the Auxiliary's activities shifted and became women-led; engagement in community outreach grew, subcommittees expanded, and the group engaged in supporting the AAN in achieving its goals of improving neurology education and research. The change paralleled the women's movement with educational topics during the Auxiliary's meetings evolving from topics on homemaking to business and understanding neurologic diseases. The Auxiliary was intertwined with the Academy and initiated the S. Weir Mitchell Award and the Founders Award of the AAN in 1955 and 1994 to encourage basic and clinical research in neurology, respectively. In 1982, the Auxiliary requested increased involvement in the scientific programs at the annual meetings. Reflecting societal change, the name was changed to the "Auxiliary to the AAN" in the 1970s, and in the mid-1990s to the "Alliance to the AAN" to accommodate the increasing number of male partners of neurologists. Based on interviews, the Auxiliary provided engagement, empowerment, and connection between women. The Auxiliary's activities tapered in the late 1990s, in part due to changes in women's occupations, and to the rise of women's membership and leadership within the Academy.

    Abstract Objective: Out-patient channelled endoscopic local anaesthetic biopsy reduces the time to diagnosis and wider use may improve cancer pathway times. This study aimed to assess the practice of ENT surgeons using channelled local anaesthetic biopsy.
    Method: A survey was distributed nationally, containing questions about out-patient local anaesthetic biopsy.
    Results: In total, 58 responses were returned; only 12 per cent of respondents (
    Conclusion: Surgeons are interested in using channelled endoscopic local anaesthetic biopsy, but they are limited by access to equipment. Increased use of channelled endoscopes may improve national cancer pathway times and avoid challenging general anaesthetics.
