Major, secondary, and micronutrient fertilizers used in fertigation -- Chapter 5. Fertigation practices: Egyptian case study.

This book introduces basic and practical information on fertigation to researchers, extension agents and growers. To provide understanding of the basic issues regarding the appropriate selection of fertilizer injectors, fertilizer compounds used in fertigation for growing various field and horticultural crops. The book provides useful basic principles and practical information concerning fertilizer management and fertigation techniques of field, horticulture, and medicinal and aromatic crops. The book focuses on the agronomic value of fertigation practice and provides the reader with best practical advice required for successful fertigation based on the field experience. This book summarizes the basic principles and practices of fertigation techniques to ensure accurate and efficient crop nutrition.^

The book consists of 5 chapters covering the following topics: Introduction to chemigation and fertigation, selecting an injector for fertilizer/chemical injection, fertilizers for fertigation, major, secondary, and micronutrient fertilizers used in fertigation, and fertigation practices: Egyptian case study. It also includes appendixes for fertigation calculation examples, calibration of an injection pump, calculating the quantities of fertilizers needed for fertigation, nutrients requirements per each ton of crop yield produced, macronutrient requirements for some filed, fiber, fruit, vegetable crops, and medicinal and aromatic plants. Fertigation is one of the smart practices that help attains sustainable food production and minimize environmental pollution. Fertigation is the application of dissolved mineral fertilizers, soil amendments, and other water-soluble products to the roots of crops through irrigation water.^

Abstract Purpose: To present the long-term results of redo-hypospadias at our tertiary referral center following a failed prior repair.
Methods: One hundred sixty-four individuals with a history of unsuccessful repairs qualified for our retrospective cohort study. Our inclusion criteria were as follows: pre-operative data that was accessible, redo-hypospadias that was successfully repaired, and at least three years of follow-up at the last hospital visit.
Results: The mean patient age was 91.3 ± 21.1 months. The mean follow-up after successful repair was 41.3 ± 3.1 months. Ninety-two (group A) had one prior repair, and 72 (group B) had 2 or 3 repairs. Group A underwent six primary techniques: 32 underwent Onlay Island Flap (OIF), 10 underwent Mathieu, 12 underwent Tubularized Incised Plate Urethroplasty (TIPU), 8 underwent Urethral Mobilization (UM), and 34 underwent Buccal Mucosal Graft (BMG) { dorsal inlay Graft Urethroplasty (DIGU) in 4 and staged BMG in 30 patients}. In group B, four procedures were used: TIPU in 4, UM in 6, and BMG in 62 (staged BMG in 50 cases and DIGU in 12).
Conclusions: The selected type of repair will depend on many factors, like residual healthy local skin and expertise. Safe techniques for repair of redo hypospadias after its 1st failure include TIPU, Mathieu, UM, OIF, and DIGU for distal varieties. After 2nd or 3rd repair DIGU, UM, and TIPU can be performed in distal types, while staged BMG can be applied for proximal ones.

Abstract Introduction: The integration of research and teaching in medical education offers numerous benefits, fostering critical thinking and analytical skills in students. Institutions worldwide have recognized the significance of this nexus and have implemented initiatives to link teaching with discipline-based research, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration. This article aims to explore the challenges and recommendations for integrating research and teaching in medical schools and provide recommendations to overcome these challenges.
Methods: We conducted a comprehensive review of the literature to identify the common challenges faced by medical institutions in integrating research and teaching. PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, ERIC, and Google Scholar databases were searched to assess the literature that met the study objectives with explicit inclusion and exclusion criteria. We also examined successful strategies employed by some institutions to promote research-teaching integration.
Results: The challenges identified include limited resources, the need to balance research and curriculum requirements, and the importance of cultivating a research-oriented institutional culture. Successful strategies involve curriculum updates, faculty motivation, and cross-disciplinary collaboration. Implementing strategies involve vertically and horizontally integrating research methodology throughout the undergraduate curriculum and cross-integrating traditional medical courses with other disciplines. Collaboration between universities, enterprises, and schools can enhance comprehensive cooperation.
Conclusion: To create a research-oriented learning environment, medical institutions should address these challenges and implement effective strategies. This approach will not only nurture research-oriented healthcare professionals but also advance medical knowledge for the benefit of patient care. By addressing these challenges and implementing appropriate strategies, medical institutions can create a research-oriented learning environment, nurturing research-oriented healthcare professionals and advancing medical knowledge to improve patient care.

Abstract Background: Pregnancy loss occurring before 20 weeks gestation is referred to as miscarriage. Various clinical presentations of miscarriage include threatened, inevitable, incomplete, complete, septic, and missed miscarriage. Early-stage threatened miscarriage may manifest with symptoms such as abdominal discomfort and vaginal bleeding. Threatened miscarriage is clinically defined as the manifestation of positive fetal heart sounds in pregnancies occurring before the 20th week of gestation, concomitant with vaginal bleeding and a closed cervix.
Objectives: The primary aim of this study was to evaluate the association between serum C-reactive protein (CRP) levels and fetal ultrasound findings in the prediction of threatened miscarriage during the first trimester of pregnancy.
Methods: In this prospective case-control study, a total of 100 pregnant women at 7-13 weeks of gestation were enrolled. All participants initially presented with a singleton embryo displaying cardiac activity on ultrasound. The study cohort was divided into two groups: Group 1 consisted of 50 women with uncomplicated pregnancies, while Group 2 comprised 50 women experiencing symptoms indicative of threatened miscarriage.
Results: Notably, within Group 2, patients who eventually experienced miscarriage exhibited significantly elevated serum high-sensitivity CRP levels in comparison to those who maintained their pregnancies.
Conclusions: Threatened miscarriage cases demonstrated a substantial increase in serum high-sensitivity CRP levels compared to the control group. Furthermore, CRP levels exhibited a correlation with the risk of miscarriage, suggesting their potential utility in conjunction with ultrasound parameters for prognosticating threatened miscarriage during the first trimester.

Abstract Hepatic and splenic sarcoidosis are still challenging issues for medical imaging, and in many cases, medical images can't exclude the most common mimic of sarcoidosis which is liver metastases; therefore, a liver biopsy is required. A young female patient who had rheumatoid arthritis presented to our hospital with abdominal pain, anorexia, and weight loss for the past three weeks. She was admitted to the acute medical ward and treated with intravenous fluid hydration for hypercalcemia. Her liver function tests were deranged (anicteric cholestasis picture), and her etanercept medication was stopped after being reviewed by the rheumatologist and gastroenterologist. She had a CT and MRI scan of the abdomen, an ultrasound (US) of the abdomen with enhanced contrast, and a positron emission tomography (PET) scan. The radiological findings could not exclude liver metastases, but an ultrasound-guided liver biopsy confirmed the finding of hepatic granulomatous changes of sarcoidosis. Her symptoms and hypercalcemia resolved, and her liver functions gradually normalized.
