Abstract Chiari malformation (CM) is a common neurological disorder with foramen magnum decompression (FMD) as a commonly accepted treatment. The authors present a case of CM-1 wherein there was no radiological instability preoperatively and FMD was done as a treatment, after which the patient improved transiently only to deteriorate further. Atlantoaxial fixation was done as a second-stage procedure, after which the patient improved clinically and radiologically. The knowledge of this case and surgical entity should be borne in mind before the formulation of a treatment plan. It is important that the solution is to identify and treat the underlying pathology rather than to decompress and directly manipulate the tonsils.

Abstract The quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) technique is an extensively used molecular tool for the detection and quantification of viral genome load. However, since the qPCR assay is a relative quantification method that relies on an external calibration curve it has a lower assay precision and sensitivity. The digital PCR (dPCR) technique is a good alternative to the qPCR assay as it offers highly precise and direct quantification of viral genome load in samples. In this study, performance characteristics such as the quantification range, sensitivity, precision, and specificity of the dPCR technique was compared to qPCR technique for the detection and quantification of IBV genome loads in serial dilutions of IBV positive plasmid DNA, and IBV infected chicken tissue and swab samples. The quantification range of the qPCR assay was wider than that of the dPCR assay, however dPCR had a higher sensitivity compared to qPCR. The precision of quantification of DNA in plasmid samples in terms of repeatability and reproducibility of results was higher when using the dPCR assay compared to qPCR assay. The quantification results of IBV genome load in infected samples by the qPCR and dPCR assays displayed a high correlation. Hence, our findings suggest that dPCR could be used in avian virology research for improved precision and sensitivity in detection and quantification of viral genome loads.

Abstract Introduction Oral health has an impact on a person's general health, well-being, and quality of life. Due to their expertise and interactions with people, school staff members can actively contribute to the promotion of children's health if provided with the proper training. Methodology A cross-sectional survey was conducted to assess the "oral health-related quality of life" using the Oral Impact on Daily Performance (OIDP) instrument among the secondary school teachers of Modinagar, Uttar Pradesh. The study included a sample of 400 government secondary school teachers and 400 private secondary school teachers. The independent sample t-test was performed to assess the relationship between the mean of OIDP dimensions and the prevalence of dental caries. Any p-value less than 0.05 was considered significant. The data was analyzed using the SPSS version 20.0 software package (IBM Corp., Armonk, NY). Results In the present study, most of the participants (174 (43.5%) government teachers and 197 (49.2%) private teachers) were in the age group of 41-50 years. According to the Decayed, Missing, and Filled Teeth (DMFT) index, the mean decayed teeth present for government and private school teachers were 0.45 ± 0.503 and 0.41 ± 0.493, respectively, and the mean DMF scores for government and private teachers were 1.27 ± 0.736 and 1.03 ± 0.757, respectively. There was a positive correlation between the DMFT scores and the mean scores for the dimensions of the OIDP among both government and private secondary school teachers. Conclusion The poor dental health status of teachers' has a bad impact on everyday performance and academic work. The findings of the study highlight the need for oral health education and good oral health maintenance among school teachers since they are the ones who can easily influence the behavior of the children.

Abstract The primary objective of this study was to compare the efficacy of use of Vancomycin impregnated bioabsorbable calcium sulphate (VCS) pellets along with surgical debridement to control group without the use of calcium sulphate for chronic osteomyelitis. The secondary objective was comparing the results in different subtypes of chronic osteomyelitis.
Methods: 50 consecutive patients were enrolled in VCS group and control group based on used whether VCS was used in treatment in addition to surgical debridement or not. Patients were classified using Cerny Mader Classification and were serially followed up to compare efficacy of eradication of infection and complications between the groups.
Results: Patients were followed for a minimum of 24 months postoperatively (range, 24-63 months; mean 32.2 ± 4.2months). 88% (44/50) of patients in VCS group achieved eradication of infection when compared to 64% (32/50) in control group at 2-year follow-up period (p < 0.001). Three out of six patient with recurrence in VCS group and 11 out 18 patients in control group achieved eradication after second stage surgery using same protocol using VCS. Among 10 with persistent infection, 5 among these were those with diffuse osteomyelitis and 5 were those with medullary osteomyelitis. In VCS group, 18/50 patients had persistent serous drainage from the wound for up to 4 weeks which was self-limiting.
Conclusion: Local debridement combined with antibiotic impregnated calcium sulphate as a single-stage treatment is effective in treating chronic localized osteomyelitis when compared to debridement alone. However, its use alone in diffuse osteomyelitis may be less effective.

Abstract The utilisation of additive manufacturing (AM) has brought about a significant transformation in the manufacturing process of materials and components, since it allows for the creation of complex geometries and customised designs. The primary objective of this study is to conduct a thorough analysis of the microstructure and characteristics of materials produced by additive manufacturing techniques, including the effects of varying temperatures ranging from ambient temperature to increased levels. Microstructural analysis encompasses several methods, including optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD), which are employed to investigate the grain structure, porosity, and phase composition. Standardised testing procedures are employed to assess mechanical qualities, such as tensile strength, hardness, and fracture toughness. temperature analysis methods, such as differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), are utilised in order to examine the temperature stability and phase transitions. This study investigates the impact of various printing factors, including layer thickness, printing speed, and build orientation, on the resultant microstructure and characteristics. This study aims to address the disparity between theoretical understanding and actual implementation, therefore facilitating the wider use of additively made materials in businesses that need exceptional performance in many environments.

Abstract The current emerging economy of the leather industry is primarily linear. Increasingly rigorous legislative specifications for environmental preservation in developed countries have created huge pressure for the leather industry. In light of international efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a circular bioeconomy approach has gained compelling traction in addressing waste management challenges in the leather industry. The concept of circular bioeconomy encourages recycling of wastes yielded from leather processing. However, as of now, there is still a lack of research on bioeconomy concepts in the leather industry context. Hence, the purpose of this study is to put forth the antecedents for circular bioeconomy practices (BEP) in the leather processing industry (LPI), along which a firm can enhance its sustainability. Seventeen antecedents of BEP have been identified from the extensive literature review and experts survey; and their effects on each other are assessed using a blended grey based decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory model. Four major antecedents such as sustainable infrastructure for leather industry, biodiversity, advancement in sustainable products, sustainability threshold levels for bioeconomy technologies are identified as the most crucial key antecedents for BEP in the context of the LPI. In the present study, six antecedents are identified as causal, whereas eleven antecedents are identified as effect group antecedents. The sustainable infrastructure for leather industry is identified as the most crucial driving antecedent in ensuring circular BEP. The findings of this study provide a structural decision support model to the industry managers, practitioners, and relevant stakeholders that assists in knowing the cause-and-effect group antecedents of BEP towards attaining sustainability in the supply chain.

Abstract Changes in techno‐functional properties of buffalo milk were evaluated due to variation in calcium content. Decalcification resulted in significant variation in ζ‐potential, casein size, colour and ηₐₚₚ. However, calcium addition only influenced ζ‐potential of milk. In case of acid gelation, the time and temperature required for coagulation decreased significantly for both calcium‐depleted and ‐added milks. However, during chymosin gelation, only 20%-30% of calcium‐depleted milk coagulated with an increased clotting time. Furthermore, calcium addition increased firmness, consistency and cohesiveness of both chymosin and acid‐induced gelation.

Abstract Epidermoid cysts are infrequent lesions occupying the intracranial space, comprising approximately 1-2% of all intracranial tumors. Brainstem epidermoids are exceptionally uncommon in children; up until now, only a few scattered case reports have been documented in the literature regarding this unique location. These cysts commonly arise from the inclusion of ectodermal elements during neural tube closure. Complete excision of these cysts is challenging due to their close proximity and adherence to the brainstem, which makes it difficult to achieve. As a result, recurrence of the cysts is not uncommon. We have reported a rare case of a 3-year-old with a 5-month history of progressive headache, imbalance while walking and progressive weakness in his right upper limb and lower limb along with difficulty in swallowing. On MRI Brain imaging study he had a pre-pontine epidermoid with intra-axial extension in the pons. The patient underwent retro-sigmoid/suboccipital craniotomy and microsurgical excision of the tumor, including the tumor capsule. After completing the surgery, the cavity was irrigated using a solution containing hydrocortisone and Ringer lactate to prevent the occurrence of aseptic meningitis. In the postoperative, the patient recovered without any complications, as all symptoms showed immediate improvement, and the lower cranial nerves returned to normal functioning.
