Abstract Using 2.45x10;{7} psi(2S) decays collected with the CLEO-c detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring we present the most precise measurements of magnetic dipole transitions in the charmonium system. We measure B(psi(2S)-->gammaeta_{c})=(4.32+/-0.16+/-0.60)x10;{-3}, B(J/psi-->gammaeta_{c})/B(psi(2S)-->gammaeta_{c})=4.59+/-0.23+/-0.64, and B(J/psi-->gammaeta_{c})=(1.98+/-0.09+/-0.30)%. We observe a distortion in the eta_{c} line shape due to the photon-energy dependence of the magnetic dipole transition rate. We find that measurements of the eta_{c} mass are sensitive to the line shape, suggesting an explanation for the discrepancy between measurements of the eta_{c} mass in radiative transitions and other production mechanisms.

Abstract This article memorializes E. Mavis Hetherington (1926-2023), an eminent developmental psychologist who made major contributions to understanding of children's development. Best known for her longitudinal studies on the impact of divorce on children and families, Hetherington published and lectured widely. Her interests spanned personality and social development, child psychopathology, stress and coping in families, and related topics. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2024 APA, all rights reserved).

Abstract Background: Between 2014 and 2020, candidates for scaphoid non-union (SNU) surgery were enrolled in a prospective randomized trial (Scaphoid Nonunion and Low Intensity Pulsed Ultrasound [SNAPU] trial) evaluating the effect of low-intensity pulsed ultrasound on postoperative scaphoid healing. At trial completion, 114/134 (85%) of these patients went on to union, and 20/134 (15%) went on to persistent SNU (PSNU). The purpose of this study was to use this prospectively gathered data to identify patient-, fracture-, and surgery-specific risk factors that may be predictive of PSNU in patients who undergo surgery for SNU.
Methods: Data were extracted from the SNAPU trial database. The inclusion and exclusion criteria of this study were the same as that of the SNAPU trial. Nineteen patient-, fracture-, and surgery-specific risk factors were determined
Results: Three risk factors were found to be independently significant predictors of PSNU: age at the time of surgery, dominant hand injury, and previous surgery on the affected scaphoid. With every decade of a patient's life, dominant hand injury, and previous scaphoid surgery, the odds of union are reduced by 1.72 times, 7.35 times, and 4.24 times, respectively.
Conclusion: We identified three independent risk factors for PSNU: age at SNU surgery, dominant hand injury, and previous surgery on the affected scaphoid. The findings of this study are significant and may contribute to shared decision-making and prognostication between the patient, surgeon, and affiliated members of their care team.

Abstract Background: Older adults with cancer are a growing population requiring tailored care to achieve optimum treatment outcomes. Their care is complicated by under-recognised and under-treated wasting disorders: malnutrition, sarcopenia, and cachexia. We aimed to investigate the prevalence, overlap, and patients' views and experiences of malnutrition, sarcopenia, and cachexia, in older adults with cancer.
Methods: Mixed-methods study with cross-sectional study and qualitative interviews. Interviews were thematically analysed through a phenomenological lens, with feedback loop analysis investigating relationships between themes and findings synthesised using modified critical interpretative synthesis.
Findings: n = 30 were screened for malnutrition, sarcopenia, and cachexia, n = 8 completed semi-structured interviews. Eighteen (60.0%) were malnourished, 16 (53.3%) sarcopenic, and 17 (56.7%) cachexic. One or more condition was seen in 80%, and all three in 30%. In univariate analysis, Rockwood clinical frailty score (OR 2.94 [95% CI: 1.26-6.89, p = 0.013]) was associated with sarcopenia, reported percentage meal consumption (OR 2.28 [95% CI: 1.24-4.19, p = 0.008]), and visible wasting (OR 8.43 [95% CI: 1.9-37.3] p = 0.005) with malnutrition, and percentage monthly weight loss (OR 8.71 [95% CI: 1.87-40.60] p = 0.006) with cachexia. Screening tools identified established conditions rather than 'risk'. Nutritional and functional problems were often overlooked, overshadowed, and misunderstood by both patients and (in patients' perceptions) by clinicians; misattributed to ageing, cancer, or comorbidities. Patients viewed these conditions as both personal impossibilities, yet accepted inevitabilities.
Conclusion: Perceptions, identification, and management of these conditions needs to improve, and their importance recognised by clinicians and patients so those truly 'at risk' are identified whilst conditions are more remediable to interventions.

Abstract It is unknown if fibre intake differs across diabetes status in USA adults and is associated with glycaemic outcomes. This cross-sectional analysis utilised National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey cycles 2013-2018 data to estimate usual total dietary fibre intake in USA adults and across diabetes status (no diabetes, prediabetes and type II diabetes (T2D)). Associations among dietary fibre intake and glycaemic outcomes were also reported across groups. Adults (≥ 19 years) with at least one dietary recall were included. Diabetes status was determined from self-report data and measured HbA1c. Independent samples

Abstract Many people living with dementia have difficulties at mealtimes, which can result in serious complications for physical and mental health, leading to hospital admissions and even death. However, current training in mealtime care for staff working with this population has been found to be poorly reported, with variable effectiveness. It is essential that care home staff are able to provide good care at mealtimes. This study used ethnography to explore current practice in mealtime care for this population, identify good practice, and understand the factors influencing mealtime care. Approximately 28 h of mealtime observations were conducted in two UK care homes with diverse characteristics. Observations focused on interactions between care staff and residents living with dementia. Twenty-five semi-structured interviews were carried out with care home staff, family carers, and visiting health and social care professionals, to explore mealtime care from their perspectives. A constant comparative approach was taken, to probe emergent findings and explore topics in greater depth. Key thematic categories were identified, including: tensions in mealtime care; the symbolic nature of mealtime care; navigating tensions via a person-centred approach; contextual constraints on mealtime care; and teamwork in mealtime care. The findings indicated that a person-centred approach helps carers to find the right balance between apparently competing priorities, and teamwork is instrumental in overcoming contextual constraints. This evidence has contributed to development of a training intervention for care home staff. Future research should investigate the feasibility of mealtime care training in care homes.
