Abstract Background: Violence against physicians is a global issue that causes impaired physical and mental health, declined work quality, resignations, and even suicides. Studies regarding violence against physicians are very limited. Therefore, our aim is to investigate the physical violence incidents against physicians presented in print media between 2008 and 2018.
Methods: A total of 8612 news reports acquired in national news database via 45 keywords were assessed. Five hundred and sixty-four of the reports met the inclusion criteria and were retrospectively analyzed.
Results: Of 5964 news reports, 3754 (62.9%) were reprimands and protests against violence incidents. In 11 years, 560 individual incidents occurred where 647 physicians were physically assaulted, with 2267 news reports written on those incidents. The number of incidents increased over the years, and in 2012 both the number of incidents (n=91) and news reports count per incident were found highest. About 77.7% of assaulted physicians were male, and incident rate was higher in Western Turkey (42.15%). In 11 years, ten dedicated physicians have lost their lives in the line of duty. Emergency medicine (20.4%), primary care (9.89%) were the departments most exposed to physical violence. The claim of receiving inadequate medical attention was noted to be the primary allegation of the assailants.
Conclusion: The frequency of physical violence incidents against physicians is increasing. Throughout the study period, news reports containing condemnations, critiques, and protests are also more frequently, yet not adequately, placed in print media. Thus, social and public awareness ought to be enhanced through national and global media outlets. Furthermore, extensive measures must be taken by governments in order to prevent and eliminate violence.

Abstract Özellikle Covid-19 pandemisi başlangıcından beri, tüm dünyada ön saflarda yer alan ve hastalara sağlık hizmeti sağlayan sağlık çalışanları, bu krizde en önemli rolü oynamaktalar.

Frontline healthcare workers (HCWs) play the most essential role, especially since the Covid-19 breakout, providing care for patients all over the world. In the context of Covid-19, thousands of healthcare workers were infected and hundreds of them have died. Since there is no systematic reporting system of infected healthcare workers, it is difficult to track down current and accurate data. While national reports help to understand the severity of the infection among HCW, yet global data is lacking. Therefore we aimed to gather nationwide information regarding HCW infections. After a collective search through international resources, we gathered a count of 708 deaths among HCWs until April 27, 2020, which represents 0.35% of total global deaths. Among those 708 deaths, 365 (51.5%) of them were doctors and 126 (17.79%) were nurses (Table 1).9 The mean age of the HCWs was 58. Total of 52 countries were recorded. Highest number of deaths was recorded in Italy (153), which is followed by United States of America (USA) (135), Iran (84), England (70) and Turkey (26). With respect to their heroic efforts, we aimed to gather and report these 708 fighters who have given their lives saving others throughout the globe.

Abstract Aralık 2019’da Çin’in Hubei eyaletinin Wuhan kentinde sebebi bilinmeyen pnömoni vakaları ortaya çıktı.

In December 2019, pneumonia cases with unknown cause occurred in Wuhan City, China's Hubei Province. As a result of their studies, Chinese scientists revealed that the agent causing pneumonia in these patients was 'severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2; previously known as 2019-nCoV)'. The disease was introduced in the literature in February 2020 as Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). In the following times, the disease spread rapidly, and on March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared pandemic. COVID-19 does not currently have an antiviral treatment available, and treatment is focused on respiratory support. The high level of contagiousness and its characterization with pneumonia that can be mortal have made COVID-19 a public health problem that should be concerned beyond being just an infectious pandemic. Proper management of patients within the surgical indication during pandemic is important both to prevent emergency-related mortality and to manage cancer patients correctly in the process. In this study, we tried to review the information in the literature about how general surgical clinical practices should be carried out during the pandemic process. In the light of this information, we emphasized the importance of protecting healthcare workers, usage of personal protective equipment, management of surgical emergencies and cancer patients during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract Purpose: The aim of this study is to evaluate the outcomes of pharmacological thromboprophylaxis given for short-term duration to the patients who underwent major abdominal surgery for colorectal and gastric cancer.
Materials and methods: This retrospective cohort study was performed in consecutive patients who underwent major abdominal surgery for colorectal and gastric cancer and received short-term pharmacological thromboprophylaxis during hospital stay were enrolled. Complete duplex ultrasonography of the lower limbs was performed for all patients to investigate both symptomatic and asymptomatic deep vein thrombosis (DVT).
Results: Overall, 278 patients were evaluated for inclusion and 62 colorectal and 27 gastric cancer patients were enrolled. Of 89 patients, the incidence of total and symptomatic DVT was 4.5% and 2.2%, respectively. The patients with symptomatic DVT were diagnosed within the first four months. The incidence of coronary artery disease, mucinous adenocarcinoma and vascular tumor invasion were significantly higher in patients with DVT (P-values<0.001, 0.009, and 0.02, respectively).
Conclusion: Short-term pharmacological thromboprophylaxis after major abdominal surgery for colorectal and gastric cancer does not increase symptomatic DVT rates of patients with low Caprini score. Postoperative DVT surveillance may benefit patients with coronary artery disease, mucinous adenocarcinoma or vascular invasion of the tumor.

Abstract Covid-19, which has caused a severe pandemic to the whole world since December 2019, continues to spread while collapsing health systems, societies and economies; while leaving controversy behind. As the coronavirus spread globally demographics of the infected are identified and current evidences point ethnical “bias” of not only to the relatively higher infection rates among minority groups, but also to the severity of the clinical course. In communities where sanitation, prevention, and determined treatment standards for the current situation are not met, the results of the pandemic can be far more devastating.

Abstract Objective: To predict breast cancer molecular subtypes with neural networks based on magnetic resonance imaging apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) radiomics and to detect the relation of lesion size with the stability of radiomics features.
Methods: This retrospective study included 221 consecutive patients (224 lesions) with breast cancer imaged between January 2015 and January 2020. Three sample size configurations were identified based on tumor size (experiment 1: all cases, experiment 2: >1 cm
Results: Of the 851 radiomics features, 611 had ICC >0.75, and 37 remained stable in the first experiment, 49 in the second, and 59 in the third based on CoV and VIF analysis. High accuracy was demonstrated by the Luminal B, HER2-enriched, and triple-negative models in the first experiment (>80%), all models in the second experiment, and HER2-enriched and triple-negative models in the third experiment.
Conclusions: A positive stability is indicated by an increased lesion size related to radiomics features. Neural networks may predict moleculer subtypes of breast cancers over 1 cm
