Abstract preliminary: this set of functions (a paper has been submitted to Engineering Geology for instructions of use, examples, details of the code) allows one to compute the radius of curvature of a river in planform for the purpose of making correlations with other geometric parameters of a channel. The code may also be used to compute the width of a channel.

Abstract Sometimes researchers explicitly or implicitly conceive of authorship in terms of moral or ethical rights to authorship when they are dealing with authorship issues. Because treating authorship as a right can encourage unethical behaviours, such as honorary and ghost authorship, buying and selling authorship, and unfair treatment of researchers, we recommend that researchers not conceive of authorship in this way but view it as a description about contributions to research. However, we acknowledge that the arguments we have given for this position are largely speculative and that more empirical research is needed to better ascertain the benefits and risks of treating authorship on scientific publications as a right.

Abstract Purpose: The purpose of this study was to confirm that lexical factors associated with the Word Auditory Recognition and Recall Measure (WARRM) items have minimal impact WARRM scores. As the WARRM test was designed to minimize the impact of lexical factors, we hypothesized that lexical factors would have no effect on WARRM recognition or recall.
Method: This report provides a complementary analysis to the original study. Generalized linear mixed models were applied to examine the effects of lexical factors (frequency, neighborhood density, neighborhood frequency) on the WARRM recognition and recall scores.
Results: There were no significant effects of lexical factors on WARRM recognition or recall. These null effects were attributed to selection and distribution of words on the WARRM, and the balancing of lexical factors for each set size.
Conclusions: Word selection and test design of the WARRM successfully controlled for potential effects of lexical factors on recognition and recall.

Abstract CT is often performed as part of a whole-body protocol in the setting of polytrauma and is the standard of care for diagnosing and characterizing sacral fractures. These fractures are not uncommon, occurring in conjunction with pelvic ring disruption in approximately 40%-50% of patients. Knowledge of basic functional anatomy and fracture biomechanics is important in understanding sacral fracture patterns, which only rarely result from direct impact. More often, sacral fractures result from an indirect mechanism with fracture lines that propagate along relative lines of weakness, leading to predictable fracture patterns. Each fracture pattern has implications with respect to neurologic injury, spinopelvic stability, management, and potential complications. The authors explore the Denis, Roy-Camille, Isler, Robles, Sabiston-Wing, and shape-based classification systems for sacral fractures. These form the basis of the subsequently discussed unified AOSpine sacral fracture classification, a consensus system developed by spine and orthopedic surgeons as a means of improving and standardizing communication. The AOSpine sacral fracture classification also includes clinical designations for neurologic status and patient-specific modifiers. When a patient is unexaminable owing to obtundation or sedation, CT is an invaluable indirect marker of nerve compression or traction injury. It also plays an important role in visualizing and characterizing the type and extent of any associated soft-tissue injuries that may warrant a delay in surgery or an alternative operative approach.

Abstract Major depressive disorder (MDD) has been associated with changes in functional brain connectivity. Yet, typical analyses of functional connectivity, such as spatial independent components analysis (ICA) for resting-state data, often ignore sources of between-subject variability, which may be crucial for identifying functional connectivity patterns associated with MDD. Typically, methods like spatial ICA will identify a single component to represent a network like the default mode network (DMN), even if groups within the data show differential DMN coactivation. To address this gap, this project applies a tensorial extension of ICA (tensorial ICA)-which explicitly incorporates between-subject variability-to identify functionally connected networks using functional MRI data from the Human Connectome Project (HCP). Data from the HCP included individuals with a diagnosis of MDD, a family history of MDD, and healthy controls performing a gambling and social cognition task. Based on evidence associating MDD with blunted neural activation to rewards and social stimuli, we predicted that tensorial ICA would identify networks associated with reduced spatiotemporal coherence and blunted social and reward-based network activity in MDD. Across both tasks, tensorial ICA identified three networks showing decreased coherence in MDD. All three networks included ventromedial prefrontal cortex, striatum, and cerebellum and showed different activation across the conditions of their respective tasks. However, MDD was only associated with differences in task-based activation in one network from the social task. Additionally, these results suggest that tensorial ICA could be a valuable tool for understanding clinical differences in relation to network activation and connectivity.
