Abstract The tuning properties of neurons in the visual system can be contextually modulated by the statistics of the area surrounding their receptive field (RF), particularly when the surround contains natural features. However, stimuli presented in specific egocentric locations may have greater behavioral relevance, raising the possibility that the extent of contextual modulation may vary with position in visual space. To explore this possibility, we utilized the small size and optical transparency of the larval zebrafish to describe the form and spatial arrangement of contextually modulated cells throughout an entire tectal hemisphere. We found that the spatial tuning of tectal neurons to a prey-like stimulus sharpens when the stimulus is presented against a background with the statistics of complex natural scenes, relative to a featureless background. These neurons are confined to a spatially restricted region of the tectum and have receptive fields centered within a region of visual space in which the presence of prey preferentially triggers hunting behavior. Our results suggest that contextual modulation of tectal neurons by complex backgrounds may facilitate prey-localization in cluttered visual environments.

Abstract Objectives: Human Papilloma Virus is associated with the development of cancers in the head and neck region. We have witnessed, in the last decades, an increase in number of cases directly related to HPV infection, in particular in the Western Countries. Recently the FDA expanded the indications for Gardasil-9® to include the prevention of head and neck cancer. Objective of this paper is to review the evidence supporting its use.
Materials and methods: Bibliographic review enquiring Medline, Web of Science and the Cochrane Library to assess the efficacy of vaccination against oncogenic HPV in the prevention of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.
Results: Two prospective and 4 retrospective studies have evaluated vaccination in prevention of head and neck cancer, using persistent oral infection as surrogate of efficacy. All studies showed lower prevalence of oral infection up to 4 years following vaccination. Vaccine efficacy was estimated between 88 and 93.3%. Because of low vaccine coverage the estimated population-level effect against oral HPV16/18/6/11 infections was only 17.0%.
Conclusions: Antibodies concentration in the oral fluid correlate with serum level, but the threshold to ensure protection is unknown. Duration of protection has not been established. HPV vaccination can provide protection from re-infection (at different mucosal sites) in previously exposed individuals, suggesting possible use of HPV vaccine later in life. Other studies should focus on confirming causal relationship between vaccination and prevention of persistent oral infection and investigate the duration of efficacy, which is crucial in its effectiveness against HNSCC.

Abstract Introduction: Kodamaea ohmeri (K. ohmeri) is an emerging fungus recognized as an important pathogen in immunocompromised hosts, responsible for life-threatening infections.
Case presentation: We describe a case of a 69-year-old immunocompetent man with a long history of leg skin ulcers infected by K. ohmeri. This is the first case of leg wounds infected by K. ohmeri in an immunocompetent patient. The infection was successfully treated with voriconazole 200 mg daily.
Conclusion: Though rare, K. ohmeri should be considered in patients with skin ulcers that are poorly responsive to medical treatment, even if not immunocompromised.

Abstract This paper systematically and critically reviews the literature on the intersection of circular economy practices (CEPs) and sustainability performance (SP). We synthesize and analyze the extant literature to uncover the knowledge gaps, highlight the contradictory views, and provide a comprehensive overview of the field. Following a detailed database search, we selected 104 empirical studies published in peer-reviewed journals for analysis. Our review reports the publication trends, top publishing journal outlets, research methodologies, and empirical contexts. We outline the theoretical underpinnings, identify the diverse circular economy practices and the key factors that impact circular economy practices and sustainable performance. The review shows a propensity for most authors to reuse established theories or not use theory at all, revealing the need for theory development. Furthermore, our analysis revealed that R&D and innovation, digital technologies, organizational capabilities/resources, and stakeholder and institutional pressure substantially influence the CEPs - SP relationship. Through our detailed assessment of the existing literature, we identified and proposed several themes and avenues for future research.

Abstract In treating acute bronchiolitis in infants, the decision to use continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) often involves infant referral from the pediatric ward to the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU). We present our experience of CPAP use in a general pediatric ward, aiming to reduce the pressure on the PICU in recent outbreaks of bronchiolitis. Clinical data of patients less than 12 months of age and admitted for bronchiolitis from 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2023 were retrospectively collected. Of 82 infants admitted for bronchiolitis, 16 (19%) were treated with nasal CPAP (nCPAP group); of the remaining 66, 21 (26%) were treated with a low-flow nasal cannula (LFNC) only, 1 (1%) was also treated a with high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC), 12 (15%) were treated with an HFNC only, and 41 (50%) were treated without oxygen support (no-nCPAP group). Overall, coinfection with RSV and SARS-CoV-2 was observed in three patients and SARS-CoV-2 infection was observed in two patients. None of them required any type of oxygen support. Only 3/16 (19%) infants in the nCPAP group were referred to the PICU due to worsening clinical conditions despite nCPAP support. In our experience of treating epidemic bronchiolitis, nCPAP can be safely managed in a general pediatric ward, thus reducing the burden of admissions to the PICU. Training and regular updating of the pediatric staff, careful monitoring of the patient, and close cooperation with the PICU were instrumental for our team.

Abstract Minapadi is a prawn rearing system in rice fields that is carried out with rice plants. This study aims to increase the income of farmers with high productivity of rice yields and increase the production of giant prawns. The method used is a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) experiment with 3 treatments and 3 replications. The treatments were : P1 = stocking density of 100 ind/plot, P2 = stocking density of 200 ind/plot, P3 = stocking density of 300 ind/plot. This research was conducted for 90 days. Parameters observed were rice productivity and growth. The results showed that the best treatment was P2 = stocking density of 200 ind/plot. By producing an average rice productivity of 5.5 kg/50 m2 and the average relative growth rate of 4.72%. From the results of this study, the application of the Minapadi system with giant prawns had a positive impact on the observed parameters (P<0.05) and thus will provide benefits for farmers.

Abstract In population neuroscience, samples are not often selected with equal or known probability from an underlying population of interest; in other words, samples are not often formally representative of a specified underlying population. This chapter provides an overview of an epidemiological approach to considering the implications of selective participation on the value of our results for population health. We discuss definitions of generalizability and transportability, given the growing recognition that generalizability and transportability are central for interpreting data that are aiming to be population-based. We provide evidence that differences in the prevalence of effect measure modifiers between a study sample and a target population will lead to a lack of generalizability and transportability. We provide an example of an association between a poly-genetic risk score and depression, showing how an internally valid association can differ based on the prevalence of effect measure modifiers. We show that when estimating associations, inferences from a study sample to a population can depend on clearly defining a target population. Given that representative sampling from explicitly defined target populations may not be feasible or realistic in many situations, especially given the sample sizes needed for statistical power for many exposures of interest (and especially when interactions are being tested), researchers should be well versed in tools available to enhance the interpretability of samples regarding target populations.
