Abstract Acetone precipitation was evaluated as a rapid, simple, low-cost, and efficient method for the selective purification of O-glycopeptides from enzymatic digests of glycoproteins. Ovalbumin (OVA), human and bovine α₁-acid glycoprotein (hAGP and bAGP), human apolipoprotein C–III (APO-C3), and recombinant human erythropoietin (rhEPO) were used to obtain enzymatic digests with a broad and varied set of peptides, N-glycopeptides, and O-glycopeptides. After digestion and before capillary electrophoresis mass spectrometry (CE-MS) analysis, the amount of ice-cold acetone added to the digests was optimized to maximize recoveries of O-glycopeptides. Furthermore, the different behavior of peptides, N- and O-glycopeptides was explained by studying with multivariate data analysis methods the influence of several physicochemical parameters and properties related to their composition and structure. Principal component analysis (PCA) and, afterward, partial least-squares discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) were used to identify the most significant variables and their importance to differentiate between peptides, N-glycopeptides and O-glycopeptides, or within these classes. This information was useful to understand precipitation of these compounds after addition of acetone and for the selection of the optimal conditions for purification of specific O-glycopeptide biomarkers. Special attention was paid to O₁₂₆-glycopeptide glycoforms of rhEPO because of their applicability in biopharmaceutical quality control and doping analysis.

Title translation Guidelines for prevention, detection and management of hyperbilirubinaemia in newborns of 35 or more weeks of gestation.
Abstract Hyperbilirubinaemia is one of the most frequent causes of hospital readmission during the first week of life. Its detection is still a big challenge, mainly due to the early discharge from the hospital that can be associated with a delay of the diagnosis. The identification of those newborns at risk of developing significant hyperbilirubinaemia is one of the main priorities in the public health care system. An approach to the management of newborn jaundice is presented in this article, following the recommendations based on the medical evidence and on the opinion of the Standards Committee of the Spanish Society of Neonatology.

By means of the present study the different concepts will be analyzed, as well as, clauses, characteristics and juridical nature of the contract of Know How or of provision of technical knowledge, understood like: that juridical business which object is the transfer or transmission of the right on a technical knowledge reserved, realized by your holder in favour of another part, in exchange for a consideration; the possibility of transfer being highlighted so much, as well as of sale - modality discussed in the doctrine - of the Know How. All this, with purposes of establishing the limits for your positivización in the Juridical system, for which, there is annexed a project of law, which is constructed by the developed in the present research.

Abstract The nutcracker's syndrome or phenomenom is defined as the left renal vein compression between the aorta and the superior mesenteric artery. Diagnosis is uncommon, not only due to its low frequency but for the dificulty to be suspected in usual findings as lumbar pain or hematuria. We present the case of a patient to whom we were able to show mentioned pathology with the helicoidal TC with volumetric reconstruction "3D" (VR).

Abstract Microalgae, originating from a tertiary treatment of municipal wastewater, is considered a sustainable feedstock for producing biochar and hydrochar, offering great potential for agricultural use due to nutrient content and carbon storage ability. However, there are risks related to contamination and these need to be carefully assessed to ensure safe use of material from wastewater microalgae. Therefore, this study compared the properties and phototoxicity of biochar and hydrochar produced via pyrolysis and hydrothermal carbonisation (HTC) of microalgae under different temperatures and residence times. While biochar promoted germination and seedling growth by up to 11.0% and 70.0%, respectively, raw hydrochar showed strong phytotoxicity, due to the high content of volatile matter. Two post-treatments, dichloromethane (DCM) washing and further pyrolysis, proved to be effective methods for mitigating phytotoxicity of hydrochar. Additionally, biochar had 35.8-38.6% fixed carbon, resulting in higher carbon sequestration potential compared to hydrochar.

Abstract In this study, several chromatographic sorbents: porous graphitic carbon (PGC), aminopropyl hydrophilic interaction (aminopropyl-HILIC), and phenylboronic acid (PBA) were assessed for the analysis of glycopeptides by on-line solid-phase extraction capillary electrophoresis mass spectrometry (SPE-CE-MS). As the PBA sorbent provided the most promising results, a PBA-SPE-CE-MS method was developed for the selective and sensitive preconcentration of glycopeptides from enzymatic digests of glycoproteins. Recombinant human erythropoietin (rhEPO) was selected as the model glycoprotein and subjected to enzymatic digestion with several proteases. The tryptic O

Title translation Prevention of superficial bladder cancer with mitomycin C or interferon: final results of a prospective study.
Abstract Objectives: Herein we present the final results of a prospective randomized study comparing two prophylactic treatment modalities for superficial bladder tumors: chemotherapy with mitomycin C and immunotherapy with interferon.
Methods: The study comprised 65 patients. Mitomycin C was utilized in 34 and interferon in 31 patients.
Results: The mitomycin C-treated patients had 41% recurrence, 1.7 recurrence/100 patients-month, 17 months mean time to recurrence and 8.8% tumor progression. The patients receiving interferon had 45% recurrence, 2.4 recurrence/100 patients-month, 12 months mean time to recurrence and 22.2% tumor progression rate. No significant differences were observed between the two groups of patients. Treatment was well-tolerated by both groups and the cost:efficacy ratio was higher for the interferon-treated patients.
Conclusions: Immunoprophylaxis with interferon is as effective, but costs more than chemoprophylaxis with mitomycin C. Both agents have a moderate effect relative to control of recurrence, time to recurrence and tumor progression.
