Abstract Controlling spin current in topological insulators (TIs) is a crucial requirement for applications in quantum computing and spintronics. Using the non-equilibrium Keldysh Green's function formalism, we demonstrate that such control can be established around rectangular cavities of two-dimensional TIs by breaking their time reversal symmetry

Abstract In this article, a novel neural network (NN)-based adaptive dynamic surface asymptotic tracking controller with guaranteed transient performance is proposed for n -degrees of freedom (DOF) hydraulic manipulators. To fulfill the work, the entire manipulator system model, including hydraulic actuator dynamics, is first established. Then, the neural adaptive dynamic surface controller is designed, in which the NN is utilized to approximate the unknown joint coupling dynamics, while the approximation error and uncertainties of the actuator dynamics are addressed by the nonlinear robust control law with adaptive gains. In addition, a modified funnel function that ensures the joint tracking errors remains within a predefined funnel boundary and is skillfully incorporated into the adaptive dynamic surface control (ADSC) design to achieve a guaranteed transient tracking performance. The theoretical analysis reveals that both the guaranteed transient tracking performance and asymptotic stability can be achieved with the proposed controller. Contrastive simulations are performed on a 2-DOF hydraulic manipulator to demonstrate the superiority of the proposed controller.

Abstract Aluminum (Al)-based drinking water treatment residue (DWTR) has often been attempted to be recycled as dominant ingredient to produce sintered ceramsite for water treatment. This study aimed to determine the long-term performance of DWTR-based ceramsite in treating domestic wastewater based on a 385-d biofilter test and by using physicochemical, metagenomic, and metatranscriptomic analyses. The results showed that the ceramsite-packed biofilter exhibited high and stable capability in removing phosphorus (P) and chemical oxygen demand (COD), with removal efficiencies of 92.6 ± 3.97% and 81.1 ± 14.0% for total P and COD, respectively; moreover, 88-100% of ammonium-nitrogen (N) was normally converted, and the total N removal efficiency reached 80-86% under proper aeration. Further analysis suggested that the forms of the removed P in the ceramsite were mainly NH

Abstract Background: The 2022-2023 mpox (monkeypox) outbreak has spread rapidly across multiple countries in the non-endemic region, mainly among men who have sex with men (MSM). In this study, we aimed to evaluate mpox's importation risk, border screening effectiveness and the risk of local outbreak in Chinese mainland.
Methods: We estimated the risk of mpox importation in Chinese mainland from April 14 to September 11, 2022 using the number of reported mpox cases during this multi-country outbreak from Global.health and the international air-travel data from Official Aviation Guide. We constructed a probabilistic model to simulate the effectiveness of a border screening scenario during the mpox outbreak and a hypothetical scenario with less stringent quarantine requirement. And we further evaluated the mpox outbreak potential given that undetected mpox infections were introduced into men who have sex with men, considering different transmissibility, population immunity and population activity.
Results: We found that the reduced international air-travel volume and stringent border entry policy decreased about 94% and 69% mpox importations respectively. Under the quarantine policy, 15-19% of imported infections would remain undetected. Once a case of mpox is introduced into active MSM population with almost no population immunity, the risk of triggering local transmission is estimated at 42%, and would rise to > 95% with over six cases.
Conclusions: Our study demonstrates that the reduced international air-travel volume and stringent border entry policy during the COVID-19 pandemic reduced mpox importations prominently. However, the risk could be substantially higher with the recovery of air-travel volume to pre-pandemic level. Mpox could emerge as a public health threat for Chinese mainland given its large MSM community.

Abstract Objective: Limited research has focused on the clinical features of sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL) in pediatric patients. This study is aimed to investigate the relationship between clinical features and the baseline hearing severity and outcomes of SSNHL in the pediatric population.
Method: We conducted a bi-center retrospective observational study in 145 SSNHL patients aged no more than 18 years who were recruited between November 2013 and October 2022. Data extracted from medical records, audiograms, complete blood count (CBC) and coagulation tests have been assessed for the relationship with the severity (the thresholds of the initial hearing) and outcomes (recovery rate, hearing gain and the thresholds of the final hearing).
Results: A lower lymphocyte count (
Conclusions: The present study showed that accompanying tinnitus, the severity of initial hearing loss, the time elapse and the audiogram configuration might be related to the prognosis of pediatric SSNHL. Meanwhile, the presence of vertigo, lower lymphocytes and higher PLR were associated with worse severity.

Abstract This article proposes an asymptotic adaptive command filtered control approach for uncertain nonlinear systems with parametric uncertainties, mismatched and matched disturbances. To accomplish the task, a disturbance observer (DO) only with one tuning parameter is firstly used to attain the disturbance compensation. The parameter uncertainties can be addressed via composite updated laws. Then, by judiciously combining DO, adaptive control and command filter technique, a novel command filtered controller with adaptive-gain auxiliary systems is developed to attain asymptotic tracking and shun "explosion of complexity". The system stability is proved by utilizing the Lyapunov function. Extensive experimental results uncover the preponderance of the exhibited strategy.
