Abstract In the current prevalent complex electromagnetic (EM) environment, intelligent methods for versatile and integrated control of EM waves using compact devices are both essential and challenging. These varied wave control objectives can at times conflict with one another, such as the need for broad absorption to remain inconspicuous, while also requiring enhanced backward scattering for highly reliable tracing and secure communication. To address these sophisticated challenges, a microwave-frequency reconfigurable tri-mode metasurface (RTMM) is introduced. The proposed innovation enables three distinct operational modes: broadband low observation, enhanced EM wave tracing, and backscatter communication over a wide-angle range by simple control of the PIN diodes embedded in each meta-atom. The proof-of-concept demonstration of the fabricated prototype verified the switchable tri-mode performance of the RTMM. This proposed RTMM can be adapted to various applications, including EM shielding, target detection, and secure communication in complex and threatening EM environments, paving the way for environmentally-adaptive EM wave manipulation.

Abstract This paper proposes \textit{Contour Context}, a simple, effective, and efficient topological loop closure detection pipeline with accurate 3-DoF metric pose estimation, targeting the urban utonomous driving scenario. We interpret the Cartesian birds' eye view (BEV) image projected from 3D LiDAR points as layered distribution of structures. To recover elevation information from BEVs, we slice them at different heights, and connected pixels at each level will form contours. Each contour is parameterized by abstract information, e.g., pixel count, center position, covariance, and mean height. The similarity of two BEVs is calculated in sequential discrete and continuous steps. The first step considers the geometric consensus of graph-like constellations formed by contours in particular localities. The second step models the majority of contours as a 2.5D Gaussian mixture model, which is used to calculate correlation and optimize relative transform in continuous space. A retrieval key is designed to accelerate the search of a database indexed by layered KD-trees. We validate the efficacy of our method by comparing it with recent works on public datasets.

Abstract Background: Limb-shaking transient ischemic attack (LS-TIA) is a rare manifestation of carotid artery occlusion. Common carotid artery occlusion (CCAO) is a relatively rare condition, and both its natural history and recommendations for treatment are still unclear.
Case description: A 67-year-old female suffered from transient episodes of unilateral limb shaking. Computer tomographic angiography (CTA) showed long-segment occlusion of the right common carotid artery. Computer tomographic perfusion (CTP) demonstrated hypoperfusion of the corpus striatum, which suggests that hemodynamic failure is a potential mechanism underlying the LS-TIA secondary to common carotid artery occlusion. The occlusion was successfully recanalized by retrograde common carotid endarterectomy, and the episodes of left limb shaking disappeared after surgery.
Conclusions: The occlusion was successfully recanalized by retrograde common carotid endarterectomy, and the episodes of left limb shaking disappeared after surgery. Hypoperfusion of the corpus striatum might be a potential mechanism underlying the LS-TIA secondary to common carotid occlusion.

Abstract The United States Food and Drug Administration (US FDA) has always been a forerunner in drug evaluation and supervision. Over the past 31 years, 1050 drugs (excluding vaccines, cell-based therapies, and gene therapy products) have been approved as new molecular entities (NMEs) or biologics license applications (BLAs). A total of 228 of these 1050 drugs were identified as cancer therapeutics or cancer-related drugs, and 120 of them were classified as therapeutic drugs for solid tumors according to their initial indications. These drugs have evolved from small molecules with broad-spectrum antitumor properties in the early stage to monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) and antibody‒drug conjugates (ADCs) with a more precise targeting effect during the most recent decade. These drugs have extended indications for other malignancies, constituting a cancer treatment system for monotherapy or combined therapy. However, the available targets are still mainly limited to receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs), restricting the development of antitumor drugs. In this review, these 120 drugs are summarized and classified according to the initial indications, characteristics, or functions. Additionally, RTK-targeted therapies and immune checkpoint-based immunotherapies are also discussed. Our analysis of existing challenges and potential opportunities in drug development may advance solid tumor treatment in the future.

Abstract The traditional lateral flow immunoassay (LFIA) detection method suffers from issues such as unstable detection results and low quantitative accuracy. In this study, we propose a novel multi-test line lateral flow immunoassay quantitative detection method using smartphone-based SAA immunoassay strips. Following the utilization of image processing techniques to extract and analyze the pigments on the immunoassay strips, quantitative analysis of the detection results was conducted. Experimental setups with controlled lighting conditions in a dark box were designed to capture samples using smartphones with different specifications for analysis. The algorithm's sensitivity and robustness were validated by introducing noise to the samples, and the detection performance on immunoassay strips using different algorithms was determined. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed lateral flow immunoassay quantitative detection method based on image processing techniques achieves an accuracy rate of 94.23% on 260 samples, which is comparable to the traditional methods but with higher stability and lower algorithm complexity.
