    Abstract The dependence of the ratio between the B_{s}^{0} and B^{+} hadron production fractions, f_{s}/f_{u}, on the transverse momentum (p_{T}) and rapidity of the B mesons is studied using the decay channels B_{s}^{0}→J/ψϕ and B^{+}→J/ψK^{+}. The analysis uses a data sample of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, collected by the CMS experiment in 2018 and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 61.6  fb^{-1}. The f_{s}/f_{u} ratio is observed to depend on the B p_{T} and to be consistent with becoming asymptotically constant at large p_{T}. No rapidity dependence is observed. The ratio of the B^{0} to B^{+} meson production fractions, f_{d}/f_{u}, is also measured, for the first time in proton-proton collisions, using the B^{0}→J/ψK^{*0} decay channel. The result is found to be within 1 standard deviation of unity and independent of p_{T} and rapidity, as expected from isospin invariance.

    Abstract An increasing number of individuals adopt plant-based diets for their potential health benefits. Understanding vegetarians’ dietary behavior in the context of their socioeconomic background is essential for pro-vegetarian messaging and to influence public beliefs about plant food consumption. Thus, this study sought to investigate diet and consumer behaviors in U.S. vegetarians. This is a cross-sectional, population-based study with data from the Nutrition and Health Examination Surveys (2007–2010). Selected items from three modules (diet and nutrition behavior, consumer behavior, and food security) were compared between vegetarians ( n = 352) and the general population ( n = 14,328). U.S. vegetarians consumed significantly fewer calories and less cholesterol but more fiber than their omnivorous counterparts. Moreover, vegetarians had significantly fewer soft drinks and salty snacks available at home. We also observed significant intergroup differences with regard to the availability of fruit and dark green vegetables. Vegetarians spent less money on eating out and indicated a lower number of not-home-prepared meals and ready-to-eat foods. We found no differences regarding money spent at supermarkets or grocery stores. Our study contributes to a better understanding of dietary and consumer behaviors in vegetarians. We shed a new light on the economic feasibility of vegetarian diets, highlighting that these diets are not necessarily more expensive than an omnivorous diet.

    Abstract Working outside of regular daytime hours is increasingly common in current societies and poses a substantial challenge to an individual’s biological rhythm. Disruptions of the gastrointestinal tract’s circadian rhythm and poor dietary choices subsequent to shiftwork may predispose the shift workforce to an increased risk of gastrointestinal disorders, including constipation, peptic ulcer disease, and erosive gastritis. We investigated bowel health in a US population of shift workers, using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, and compared bowel movement (BM) frequency and defecation patterns between 2007 day workers and 458 shift workers (representing 55,305,037 US workers). Using bivariate and multivariate logistic regression techniques, our results suggested no association between shiftwork status and BM frequency, bowel leakage of gas, and stool consistency. Constipation prevalence was high but comparable in both groups (6.90% vs. 7.09%). The low fiber intake observed in both groups (15.07 vs. 16.75 g/day) could play a potential role here. The two groups did not differ with regard to other nutrients that may influence BM frequency and stool consistency (e.g., carbohydrate or caffeine intake). Additional studies including food group analyses and fecal biomarkers are warranted for a better understanding of GI health in shift workers.

    Abstract Purpose: To improve automated lung segmentation on 2D lung MR images using balanced augmentation and artificially-generated consolidations for training of a convolutional neural network (CNN).
    Materials and methods: From 233 healthy volunteers and 100 patients, 1891 coronal MR images were acquired. Of these, 1666 images without consolidations were used to build a binary semantic CNN for lung segmentation and 225 images (187 without consolidations, 38 with consolidations) were used for testing. To increase CNN performance of segmenting lung parenchyma with consolidations, balanced augmentation was performed and artificially-generated consolidations were added to all training images. The proposed CNN (CNNBal/Cons) was compared to two other CNNs: CNNUnbal/NoCons-without balanced augmentation and artificially-generated consolidations and CNNBal/NoCons-with balanced augmentation but without artificially-generated consolidations. Segmentation results were assessed using Sørensen-Dice coefficient (SDC) and Hausdorff distance coefficient.
    Results: Regarding the 187 MR test images without consolidations, the mean SDC of CNNUnbal/NoCons (92.1 ± 6% (mean ± standard deviation)) was significantly lower compared to CNNBal/NoCons (94.0 ± 5.3%, P = 0.0013) and CNNBal/Cons (94.3 ± 4.1%, P = 0.0001). No significant difference was found between SDC of CNNBal/Cons and CNNBal/NoCons (P = 0.54). For the 38 MR test images with consolidations, SDC of CNNUnbal/NoCons (89.0 ± 7.1%) was not significantly different compared to CNNBal/NoCons (90.2 ± 9.4%, P = 0.53). SDC of CNNBal/Cons (94.3 ± 3.7%) was significantly higher compared to CNNBal/NoCons (P = 0.0146) and CNNUnbal/NoCons (P = 0.001).
    Conclusions: Expanding training datasets via balanced augmentation and artificially-generated consolidations improved the accuracy of CNNBal/Cons, especially in datasets with parenchymal consolidations. This is an important step towards a robust automated postprocessing of lung MRI datasets in clinical routine.

    Abstract Aims: A polygenic risk score (PRS) has the potential to improve individual atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risk assessment. To determine whether a PRS combined with two clinical risk scores, the Systematic COronary Risk Evaluation 2 (SCORE2) and the Pooled Cohort Equation (PCE) improves the prediction of ASCVD.
    Methods and results: Using a population-based European prospective cohort, with 6733 participants at the baseline (2003-2006), the PRS presenting the best predictive accuracy was combined with SCORE2 and PCE to assess their joint performances for predicting ASCVD Discrimination, calibration, Cox proportional hazard regression, and net reclassification index were assessed. : 4218 subjects (53% women; median age, 53.4 years), with 363 prevalent and incident ASCVD, were used to compare four PRSs. The metaGRS_CAD PRS presented the best predictive capacity (AUROC = 0.77) and was used in the following analyses. 3383 subjects (median follow-up of 14.4 years), with 190 first-incident ASCVD, were employed to test ASCVD risk prediction. The changes in C statistic between SCORE2 and PCE models and those combining metaGRS_CAD with SCORE2 and PCE were 0.008 (95% CI, -0.00008-0.02, P = 0.05) and 0.007 (95% CI, 0.005-0.01, P = 0.03), respectively. Reclassification was improved for people at clinically determined intermediate-risk for both clinical scores [NRI of 9.6% (95% CI, 0.3-18.8) and 12.0% (95% CI, 1.5-22.6) for SCORE2 and PCE, respectively].
    Conclusion: Combining a PRS with clinical risk scores significantly improved the reclassification of risk for incident ASCVD for subjects in the clinically determined intermediate-risk category. Introducing PRSs in clinical practice may refine cardiovascular prevention for subgroups of patients in whom prevention strategies are uncertain.

    Abstract A comprehensive molecular analysis of a simple aqueous complexing system-U(VI) acetate-selected to be independently investigated by various spectroscopic (vibrational, luminescence, X-ray absorption, and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy) and quantum chemical methods was achieved by an international round-robin test (RRT). Twenty laboratories from six different countries with a focus on actinide or geochemical research participated and contributed to this scientific endeavor. The outcomes of this RRT were considered on two levels of complexity: first, within each technical discipline, conformities as well as discrepancies of the results and their sources were evaluated. The raw data from the different experimental approaches were found to be generally consistent. In particular, for complex setups such as accelerator-based X-ray absorption spectroscopy, the agreement between the raw data was high. By contrast, luminescence spectroscopic data turned out to be strongly related to the chosen acquisition parameters. Second, the potentials and limitations of coupling various spectroscopic and theoretical approaches for the comprehensive study of actinide molecular complexes were assessed. Previous spectroscopic data from the literature were revised and the benchmark data on the U(VI) acetate system provided an unambiguous molecular interpretation based on the correlation of spectroscopic and theoretical results. The multimethodologic approach and the conclusions drawn address not only important aspects of actinide spectroscopy but particularly general aspects of modern molecular analytical chemistry.

    Abstract We study the U.S. Supreme Court dynamics by analyzing the temporal evolution of the underlying policy positions of the Supreme Court Justices as reflected by their actual voting data, using functional data analysis methods. The proposed fully flexible nonparametric method makes it possible to dissect the time-dynamics of policy positions at the level of individual Justices, as well as providing a comprehensive view of the ideology evolution over the history of Supreme Court since its establishment. In addition to quantifying individual Justice's policy positions, we uncover average changes over time and also the major patterns of change over time. Additionally, our approach allows for representing highly complex dynamic trajectories by a few principal components which complements other models of analyzing and predicting court behavior.
