Abstract Background: Acute erythroid leukemia (AEL), also known as pure erythroid leukemia, is a rare subtype of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) characterized by the proliferation of malignant erythroid precursors. Outcome data at the population level are scarce.
Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis of the Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) database. All cases with a histologically confirmed diagnosis of acute (pure) erythroid leukemia during the period of 2000-2019 were included in the study. The Kaplan-Meier method was used to perform survival analysis. The significance of differences between overall survival (OS) was analyzed using the log-rank test.
Results: In total, 968 patients were included in the study. The median age was 68 years (range 0-95), 62% of patients were males, and 62.5% (
Conclusion: AEL occurs in all age groups but is most common in the elderly. Outcomes are poor with current chemotherapeutic agents, with no improvement in the last two decades. This study stresses the urgent need for investigational agents.

Abstract Background and objectives: The aims of this study were to determine the extent to which hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) survivors adhere to the American Cancer Society recommendations for weekly physical activity and identify potential demographic and transplant characteristics associated with the lack of compliance.
Methods: This cross-sectional study included adults who had undergone HCT and were at least 1 year post transplantation. Physical activity was assessed using the screening tool of the Block 2014. The type of activity, frequency, and intensity were converted into the metabolic equivalent of task (MET) scores (0-499.0 MET min/week, inadequate activity; 500-1000 MET min/week, adequate activity; >1000 MET min/week, highly vigorous activity).
Results: Participants (n = 81) reported a median MET score of 153 min/week, and 83% failed to reach the physical activity guideline of >500 MET min/week. Only 17.3% met the ACS recommendations, with three reporting above 1000 MET min/week. Median daily moderate and vigorous physical activity minute totals were 18.0 and 5.9 min/d, with 85.2% and 60.5% of participants involved, respectively. The median total physical activity energy expenditure was 744 kcal/d. Only race was associated with MET score, with Whites reporting higher MET scores.
Conclusion: Most HCT survivors assessed in this study did not meet the ACS physical activity recommendations. These findings reinforce the need to incorporate screening for physical activity into HCT survivorship care, offer counseling to those who do not meet the recommended levels, and encourage a physically active lifestyle among HCT survivors.

Abstract Hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT), once used as a last-resort therapy, is now considered a lifesaving procedure for thousands of patients with life-threatening diseases worldwide and is frequently used early in the course of treatment for diseases destined to be uncontrollable by non-HCT therapies. Incremental advances leading to reduction of post-transplant morbidity and mortality by better control of graft versus host disease (GVHD), infections, and regimen-related toxicities, coupled with greater donor options, not only significantly increased the utilization and success of this procedure but also allowed many of these patients to enjoy healthy and productive lives after HCT. Emerging concepts in the field are now focused on the expansion of available donor options, further reduction of transplant-related toxicity, and decrease in post-transplant relapse.
