Abstract Sulfur is an essential nutrient required for plant growth and metabolism, and plays an important role in relieving stress. Nutrient deficiency is one of the main factors that negatively affect crop growth, quality, and yield. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of sulfur nutrients on the growth and metabolites of lettuce after treatment with two different sulfur concentrations (16 μM and 2 mM) in spray hydroponics. The fresh weight, chlorophyll, and carotenoid content of lettuce leaves were analyzed. Root morphology was examined using the WinRHIZO program. Metabolites were comparatively evaluated with the help of LC-MS and GC-MS. The fresh weight, chlorophyll, and carotenoid contents of lettuce were higher in the high concentration sulfur treatment group than in the low concentration sulfur treatment group. In the characteristics analysis of the lettuce roots, treatment with a high concentration of sulfur had a more positive effect on the lettuce root development than treatment with a low concentration of sulfur. Moreover, mass-based metabolomics analysis showed that the lettuce metabolites content was significantly different according to low- and high-concentration sulfur treatments. Therefore, this study highlights the importance of sulfur nutrient content in lettuce growth and metabolites.

Abstract This paper addresses an application of the Kalman filter for estimating a time-varying process disturbance in a building space. The process disturbance means a synthetic composite of heat gains and losses caused by internal heat sources e.g., people, lights, equipment), and airflows. It is difficult to measure and quantify the internal heat sources and airflows due to their dynamic nature and time-lag impact on indoor environment. To address this issue, a Kalman filter estimation method was used in this study. The Kalman filtering is well suited for situations when state variables of interest cannot be measured. Based on virtual and real experiments conducted in this study, it was found that the Kalman filter can be used to estimate the time-varying process disturbance in a building space.

Abstract Dielectric layers are widely used in ferroelectric applications such as memory and negative capacitance devices. The wake-up and the split-up phenomena in the ferroelectric hafnia are well-known challenges in early-stage device reliability. We found that the phenomena even occur in the bilayer, which is composed of the hafnia and the dielectrics. The phenomena are known to be affected mainly by oxygen vacancies of hafnia. Dielectric layers, which are often metal oxides, are also prone to be affected by oxygen vacancies. To study the effect of the dielectric layer on the wake-up and the split-up phenomena, we fabricated ferroelectric thin-film capacitors with dielectric layers of various thicknesses and measured their field-cycling behaviors. We found that the movement of oxygen vacancies in the dielectric layer was predominantly affected by the polarization state of the ferroelectric layer. In addition, the mechanism of the field-cycling behavior in the bilayer is similar to that in ferroelectric thin films. Our results can be applied in ferroelectric applications that use dielectric layers.

Abstract Abstract: The altered biomechanics after reverse shoulder arthroplasty, combined with the accumulation of various stress risers, can lead to stress fractures (SFs) around the prosthesis. The incidence of stress reactions (SRs) after reverse shoulder arthroplasty, characterized by pain and tenderness without radiographic or CT evidence of fractures, is approximately 4.2%, which is comparable to the incidence of SF (6.4%). Among patients with SR, a substantial 32% eventually progress to fractures during clinical follow-up. SPECT/CT is a promising tool that combines morphologic and metabolic information for assessing mechanical bone stress. Therefore, early detection of SR through SPECT/CT can help prevent SF.

Abstract Purpose: The purpose of this study is to assess the safety and clinical outcomes of transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE)
Materials and methods: This retrospective study included 20 patients who underwent TAE
    Results: Hemorrhagic cholecystitis (
Conclusion: TAE through the cystic artery has a high technical success rate in treating cystic artery bleeding, but clinical failure remains a common occurrence due to concurrent medical conditions and the development of ischemic cholecystitis.
