Abstract We describe a case of 27 year old male who presented with history of breathing difficulty with episodes of apnea for 8 years. He was suspected to have obstructive sleep apnea and a nocturnal polysomnography showed Apnea-Hypopnea index of 34/hour and the lowest oxygen saturation of 78% and severe snoring in the night. Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machine was advised from local hospital and he used for 2 month. Indirect laryngoscopy done showed bilateral abductor cord palsy. Contrast enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (CEMRI) of brain and contrast enhanced computed tomography (CECT) of chest and neck was normal study. Posterior cordotomy of left cord was done using coblation with resolution of symptoms of OSA. Repeat nocturnal polysomnography showed apnea/hypopnea index 5 and lowest oxygen saturation of 95%.

Abstract Land degradation has become a key concern worldwide due to changes in meteorological variables and human-caused activities. This study primarily focuses on the rate, impact, and pattern of land degradation in western India. In this instance, we evaluated the effectiveness of land degradation neutrality (LDN) between 2000 and 2020 using an integrative approach based on a PSR (pressure-state-response) model developed by the OECD-UNEP under the UNCCD framework. Here, we mainly used MODIS products (e.g., NDVI, PET, LULC, and NPP). Also, soil organic carbon (SOC) and climatic variables (e.g. precipitation, aridity index and soil moisture) were taken into account. These indicators were analysed using the Google Earth Engine (GEE) code editor platform, and post-processing was done through Q-GIS software. The analysed parameters indicate that the NDVI and NPP values are + 0.20 to + 0.3 and 4.27 × 10

Abstract Key message: We have identified and analyzed 28 SUMO-pathway proteins from pigeonpea. Enhanced transcripts of pathway genes and increased SUMO conjugation under drought signifies the role of SUMO in regulating stress. Being a protein-rich and nutrient-dense legume crop, pigeonpea (Cajanus cajan) holds a vital position in a vegetarian meal. It is a resilient crop capable of striving in harsh climates and provides a means of subsistence to small-holding farmers. Nevertheless, extremes of water scarcity and drought conditions, especially during seedling and reproductive stages, remains a major issue severely impacting the growth and overall productivity of pigeonpea. Small ubiquitin-like modifier (SUMO), a post-translational modification system, plays a pivotal role in fortifying plants against stressful conditions by rapid reprogramming of molecular events. In this study, we have scanned the entire pigeonpea genome and identified 28 candidates corresponding to SUMO machinery components of pigeonpea. qRT-PCR analysis of different SUMO machinery genes validated their presence under natural conditions. The analysis of the promoters of identified SUMO machinery genes revealed the presence of abiotic stress-related cis-regulatory elements highlighting the potential involvement of the genes in abiotic stress responses. The transcript level analysis of selected SUMO machinery genes and global SUMO status of pigeonpea proteins in response to drought stress suggests an integral role of SUMO in regulating drought stress conditions in pigeonpea. Collectively, the work puts forward a detailed in silico analysis of pigeonpea SUMO machinery candidates and highlights the essential role of SUMOylation in drought stress responses. Being the first report on a pulse crop, the study will serve as a resource for devising strategies for counteracting drought stress in pigeonpea that can be further extended to other pulse crops.

Abstract We explore the stability and dynamic properties of a hierarchical, linearized, and analytic spectral graph model for neural oscillations that integrates the structural wiring of the brain. Previously, we have shown that this model can accurately capture the frequency spectra and the spatial patterns of the alpha and beta frequency bands obtained from magnetoencephalography recordings without regionally varying parameters. Here, we show that this macroscopic model based on long-range excitatory connections exhibits dynamic oscillations with a frequency in the alpha band even without any oscillations implemented at the mesoscopic level. We show that depending on the parameters, the model can exhibit combinations of damped oscillations, limit cycles, or unstable oscillations. We determined bounds on model parameters that ensure stability of the oscillations simulated by the model. Finally, we estimated time-varying model parameters to capture the temporal fluctuations in magnetoencephalography activity. We show that a dynamic spectral graph modeling framework with a parsimonious set of biophysically interpretable model parameters can thereby be employed to capture oscillatory fluctuations observed in electrophysiological data in various brain states and diseases.
