Abstract Potassium (K) is known as one of the essential nutrients for the growth of plant species. The relationship between K and clay minerals can be used to understand the K cycling, and assess the plant uptake and potential of soil K fertility. This study was conducted to analyze the K forms (soluble, exchangeable, non-exchangeable and structural) and the relationship of K forms with clay minerals of calcareous soils in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province, Southwest Iran. The climate is hotter and drier in the west and south of the province than in the east and north of the province. A total of 54 pedons were dug in the study area and 32 representative pedons were selected. The studied pedons were mostly located on calcareous deposits. The soils in the study area can be classified into 5 orders including Entisols, Inceptisols, Mollisols, Alfisols and Vertisols. The main soil clay minerals in the west and south of the study area were illite, chlorite and palygorskite, whereas they were smectite, vermiculite and illite in the north and east of the province. Due to large amount of smectite and high content of organic carbon in soil surface, the exchangeable K in surface soils was higher than that in subsurface soils. It seems that organic matter plays a more important role than smectite mineral in retaining exchangeable K in the studied soils. Non-exchangeable K exhibited close relationships with clay content, illite, vermiculite and smectite. Although the amount of illite was the same in almost all pedons, amounts of structural and non-exchangeable K were higher in humid regions than in arid and semi-arid regions. This difference may be related to the poor reservoir of K+ minerals like palygorskite and chlorite together with illite in arid and semi-arid regions. In humid areas, illite was accompanied by vermiculite and smectite as the K+ reservoir. Moreover, the mean cumulative non-exchangeable K released by CaCl2 was higher than that released by oxalic acid, which may be due to the high buffering capacity resulting from high carbonates in soils.

Abstract Romosozumab (ROMO) is a recently approved monoclonal antibody (approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration [FDA] in April 2019 and Health Canada in June 2019) for the treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. ROMO works by selectively inhibiting sclerostin-a glycoprotein that inhibits osteoblasts and further promotes bone resorption. The authors reviewed three phase III clinical trials (Fracture Study in Postmenopausal Women with Osteoporosis [FRAME], Active-Controlled Fracture Study in Postmenopausal Women with Osteoporosis at High Risk [ARCH], and STudy evaluating the effect of RomosozUmab Compared with Teriparatide in postmenopaUsal women with osteoporosis at high risk for fracture pReviously treated with bisphosphonatE therapy [STRUCTURE]) that demonstrated ROMO's ability to increase bone mineral density (BMD) at the lumbar spine and hip and the risk of vertebral and clinical fractures. Additionally, clinical trials demonstrated the risk for serious cardiovascular events among patients that received ROMO, and these severe adverse reactions deserve further investigation. Although ROMO presents as a potentially exciting therapeutic with serious clinical implications, the authors recommend further analysis using real-world evidence (RWE) studies to fully elucidate the cardiovascular event risk associated with ROMO administration.

Abstract Background: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of threshold inspiratory muscle training (IMT) on the duration of weaning in intensive care unit (ICU)-admitted patients.
Materials and methods: This randomized clinical trial enrolled 79 ICU-admitted, mechanically ventilated patients in 2020-2021 in Imam Reza Hospital, Mashhad. Patients were randomly divided into intervention (
Results: The duration of weaning was shorter in the intervention group (8.4 ± 1.1 days) versus the control group (11.2 ± 0.6 days) (
Conclusion: The results of this study showed the positive effect of IMT with threshold IMT trainer on increased strength of respiratory muscles and reduced weaning duration.

Abstract Background: The incidence and prevalence of liver disease are increasing and contribute to significant morbidity and mortality. In Canada, more than 3 million people live with liver diseases, accounting for approximately 2% of all hospitalizations. However, it remains unclear how much liver hospitalizations cost the Canadian health care system. Thus, this study estimates the cost of liver-related hospitalization across Canada.
Methods: We conducted a population-based, retrospective study using acute inpatient admission data for liver-related hospitalizations obtained from the Canadian Institute for Health Information. We calculated the total and the average nominal spending for liver hospitalizations nationally from April 1, 2004, to March 31, 2020, based on fiscal year (FY). In addition, we stratified the average liver hospitalization spending based on age and sex group.
Results: Canada spent $947 million on liver-related hospitalizations in FY2019, a 145% growth in spending from FY2004. The average liver disease-related hospitalization was estimated to be $17,506 in FY2019. Within the sub-group analysis, the age group <30 showed the highest average cost per hospitalization at $21,776; however, there was no significant difference in cost between males and females. Across the different provinces in FY2019, Alberta experienced the highest average spending per hospitalization at $23,150, whereas Ontario had the lowest spending at $15,712.
Conclusions: Liver-related hospitalizations are associated with high spending that is increasing nationally with variations across provinces and territories. Our results are of great use for economic evaluations of novel interventions in the future.

Abstract Globally, around 0.78 billion rural people live in close proximity to forests and have been considered "forest-dwelling" and/or "forest dependent". Forest dependency has so far been mainly studied in material terms, while the non-material relationships to forests have been addressed less frequently. To fill this gap, the general objective of this study is to assess forest-dwelling people's relationship to their community, their livestock, and their forest landscapes through a relational values and human-nature connectedness lens. Using the Zagros mountains in Iran as a case study, we conducted individual interviews with 35 villagers who live within forest landscapes and that are engaged in pastoral activities. Emerging themes were identified and categorized by qualitative analysis. We found that forest dwellers emphasized a complex array of values that relate to their community, their livestock, and their landscapes. These values included experiential, emotional, cognitive, and philosophical dimensions of human-nature connectedness. Respondents expressed an erosion of values and practices related to community, livestock, and landscapes and articulated very few positive visions for the future of these values and practices. We conclude that participatory processes and tools may be valuable for empowering forest-dwelling people to identify pathways toward a desirable future. We encourage landscape conservation strategies to become socially inclusive by considering people's deep relational values and their landscape stewardship practices.
