    Abstract In order to quantify the physical forcing processes associated to sediment transport in the inner shelf, sequential moorings were placed in the three access cable routes connecting the Renewable Energy Experimental Zone (offshore S. Pedro Moel — W Portugal) to the shore. ADCP and LISST data were collected to quantify and establish suspended sediment transport patterns in two different seasonal conditions: September and December 2011. ADCP relative acoustic backscatter was calibrated using LISST suspended sediment concentration and grain size, allowing the integration of current, sediment and wave data. In most cases suspended sediment signatures in all three mooring sites respond mainly to locally induced wave resuspension. More complex dynamic interplay was found in the central mooring site where different finer and coarser sediment signatures were identified, most likely associated with the effect of the Lis River runoff and upwelling fluxes.

    Abstract The sharing of cyberthreat information within a community or group of entities is possible due to solutions such as the Malware Information Sharing Platform (MISP). However, the MISP was considered limited if its information was deemed as classified or shared only for a given period of time. A solution using searchable encryption techniques that better control the sharing of information was previously proposed by the same authors. This paper describes a prototype implementation for two key functionalities of the previous solution, considering multiple entities sharing information with each other: the symmetric key generation of a sharing group and the functionality to update a shared index. Moreover, these functionalities are evaluated regarding their performance, and enhancements are proposed to improve the performance of the implementation regarding its execution time. As the main result, the duration of the update process was shortened from around 2922 s to around 302 s, when considering a shared index with 100,000 elements. From the security analysis performed, the implementation can be considered secure, thus confirming the secrecy of the exchanged nonces. The limitations of the current implementation are depicted, and future work is pointed out.

    Abstract Considering the current state of the worldwide pandemic, it is still common to encounter people wearing face protection masks. Although a safety measure against COVID-19, face masks might be compromising our capacity for face recognition. We conducted an online study where 140 participants observed masked and unmasked faces in a within-subjects design and then performed a recognition memory task. The best performance was found when there were no masks either at study and test phase, i.e., at the congruent unmasked condition. The worst performance was found for faces encoded with a mask but tested without it (i.e., masked-unmasked incongruent condition), which can be explained by the disruption in holistic face processing and the violation of the encoding specificity principle. Interestingly, considering the unmasked-masked incongruent condition, performance was probably affected by the violation of the encoding specificity principle but protected by holistic processing that occurred during encoding.

    Abstract Since the beginning of the XXI century, Leishmaniasis has been integrated into the World Health Organization's list of the 20 neglected tropical diseases, being considered a public health issue in more than 88 countries, especially in the tropics, subtropics, and the Mediterranean area. Statistically, this disease presents a world prevalence of 12 million cases worldwide, with this number being expected to increase shortly due to the 350 million people considered at risk and the 2-2.5 million new cases appearing every year. The lack of an appropriate and effective treatment against this disease has intensified the interest of many research groups to pursue the discovery and development of novel treatments in close collaboration with the WHO, which hopes to eradicate it shortly. This paper intends to highlight the quinoline scaffold's potential for developing novel antileishmanial agents and provide a set of structural guidelines to help the research groups in the medicinal chemistry field perform more direct drug discovery and development programs. Thus, this review paper presents a thorough compilation of the most recent advances in the development of new quinoline-based antileishmanial agents, with a particular focus on structure-activity relationship studies that should be considerably useful for the future of the field.

    Abstract The current COVID-19 pandemic raises several clinical challenges. Cases of COVID-19-associated arthritis have been reported, and inconsistently described as either COVID-19 viral arthritis or COVID-19 reactive arthritis. We aimed to review all the reported cases of 'COVID-19-associated arthritis', which we propose, is a better term to define the entire spectrum of new-onset arthritis believed to be associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection. We performed a systematic literature review using MEDLINE, EMBASE and the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews to search for articles published up to 13 December 2021. We included cohort studies, case series and case reports describing patients diagnosed with COVID-19 reactive or viral arthritis by a physician, irrespective of fulfilment of classification criteria. To identify relevant studies, medical subject headings and keywords related to 'COVID-19/SARS-CoV-2 infection' and 'reactive arthritis' were used. Our search retrieved 419 articles, of which 31 were included in the review. A total of 33 cases were reported in these 31 articles, the majority being adults (28/33=85%) with peripheral joint involvement (26/33=79%). Most of the patients responded well to treatment and the disease was self-limiting. These 33 case reports describe a possible causal relationship between exposure to SARS-CoV-2 and the onset of arthritis. However, since these cases were reported during a pandemic, other aetiologies cannot be fully excluded. The exact mechanism through which SARS-CoV-2 might trigger arthritis is not fully understood and robust epidemiological data to support a causal relationship are still lacking.

    Abstract Lissencephaly with cerebellar hypoplasia (LCH) is a rare variant form of lissencephaly, its distinctive neuroradiological phenotype being an important investigation clue regarding the potential involved genes, including variants in RELN gene. We report on a case of LCH whose clinical and neuroradiological features led to the identification of a homozygous pathogenic variant in RELN gene that has not been previously reported in the scientific literature.

    Abstract Cardiac amyloidosis is a disease caused by the deposition of amyloid fibrils in the extracellular space of the heart, most often by immunoglobulin light chains or by transthyretin. It is often underdiagnosed because the signs and symptoms are nonspecific or due to the false perception that the diagnosis always requires an endomyocardial biopsy. Transthyretin amyloidosis is being increasingly recognized as a cause of heart failure, particularly in patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). We present the clinical case of an 86-year-old man whose diagnosis was based on signs and symptoms compatible with cardiac amyloidosis and in which imaging performed a preponderant role. This case reminds clinicians to consider the diagnosis in older patients with HFpEF, left ventricular hypertrophy and rhythm disturbances. It highlights the importance of evaluating global longitudinal strain (GLS) in a standard echocardiographic evaluation.
