Abstract Abstract With the rapid development of industry, heavy metal pollution has seriously damaged the health of soil, and heavy metals spread through the food chain, posing a threat to human health. The firm existence of heavy metals in soil under earthy conditions is a center trouble faced by soil dense metal pollution solidification and correction technology. However, the existing investigation results are mostly controlled to soil passivation experiments using various materials. Macroscopically, heavy metal passivation materials have been selected, but the intrinsic mechanisms of different compound functional groups in soil passivation have been ignored. With the common heavy metal ion Pb2+ as an example, the stability of the combination of heavy metal ions and common ion groups in soil was analyzed in this study by using quantum chemical calculation as the theoretical guidance. The results show that SO4 2− and PO4 3−, as functional groups of passivating agents, are used to control lead pollution and have been verified to have good effects. When the pollution is particularly serious and not easy to passivation and precipitation, Fe3+ can be considered to enhance the passivation effect.

Abstract China has announced to strengthen its climate target by peaking carbon emissions before 2030 and aim to achieve carbon neutrality before 2060. The energy capping policy is one of the most important policies for low-carbon transition in China. Accordingly, China proposed the energy caps on controlling total consumption within 6 billion tons of coal equivalence by 2030, while increasing the share of non-fossil energy consumption to nearly 20%. Provinces are the ones who implement the capping policies. Whether or not provinces are able to achieve the caps at a cost-effective way largely depends on the effectiveness of allocation scheme. This paper explores an allocation scheme over provinces using the non-linear optimization method, paying particular attention to the significant sectoral heterogeneities among provinces which differ a lot in input-output structure and energy reduction potentials. The results indicate that the provinces with higher initial energy efficiencies can get more energy consumption quotas. Meanwhile, the provinces whose shares of renewable energy consumption are lower than the national average level should increase their renewable energy consumption to optimize their energy structure. This paper provides insights on achieving the goals of carbon peak and carbon neutrality by improving the energy capping policy.

Abstract Background: Cutaneous malignant melanoma (CMM) causes most skin cancer deaths in the United States (US). The mortality has been decreasing in the US population. We hypothesize that this population-level reduction is mainly attributable to the treatment advances, rather than the successful primary and secondary prevention.
Methods: Using data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) databases, we collected the incidence, incidence-based mortality (IBM), and 5-year survival (5-YS) rates of CMM from 1994 to 2019. Trends by stage and sex were examined by joinpoint regression analyses and age-period-cohort analyses.
Results: The overall incidence of CMM rose by 1.6% yearly from 1994 to 2006 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.9% to 2.2%) and then increased with a numerical trend. And we projected the incidence will continue to increase until 2029. In contrast, the IBM for all CMM has decreased yearly by 2.8% (95% CI: -3.9% to -1.8%) since 2010 after continuously increasing by 3.8% annually (95% CI: 3.2% to 4.4%) from 1996 to 2010. For early-stage (localized and regional) CMM, we found the incidence since 2005 plateaued without further increase, while the incidence for CMM at distant stage continuously increased by 1.4% per year (95% CI: 0.9% to 2.0%). Improvements in 5-YS were observed over the study period for all CMM and were most obvious in distant stage. And significant period effects were noted around the year 2010.
Conclusion: This study demonstrated improved survival and reduced mortality of CMM at the US population level since 2010, which were consistent with the introduction of novel therapies. Encouraging effects of primary prevention among adolescents in the most recent cohorts were found. However, the plateaued overall incidence and early diagnosis rates indicated that advances in primary and secondary prevention are very much needed to further control the burden of CMM.

Abstract Purpose: To explore the predictive value of radiomics in predicting stroke-associated pneumonia (SAP) in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients and construct a prediction model based on clinical features and DWI-MRI radiomics features.
Methods: Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to identify the independent clinical predictors for SAP. Pearson correlation analysis and the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator with ten-fold cross-validation were used to calculate the radiomics score for each feature and identify the predictive radiomics features for SAP. Multivariate logistic regression was used to combine the predictive radiomics features with the independent clinical predictors. The prediction performance of the SAP models was evaluated using receiver operating characteristics (ROC), calibration curves, decision curve analysis, and subgroup analyses.
Results: Triglycerides, the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio, dysphagia, the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score, and internal carotid artery stenosis were identified as clinically independent risk factors for SAP. The radiomics scores in patients with SAP were generally higher than in patients without SAP (P < 0. 05). There was a linear positive correlation between radiomics scores and NIHSS scores, as well as between radiomics scores and infarct volume. Infarct volume showed moderate performance in predicting the occurrence of SAP, with an AUC of 0.635. When compared with the other models, the combined prediction model achieved the best area under the ROC (AUC) in both training (AUC = 0.859, 95% CI 0.759-0.936) and validation (AUC = 0.830, 95% CI 0.758-0.896) cohorts (P < 0.05). The calibration curves and decision curve analysis further confirmed the clinical value of the nomogram. Subgroup analysis showed that this nomogram had potential generalization ability.
Conclusion: The addition of the radiomics features to the clinical model improved the prediction of SAP in AIS patients, which verified its feasibility.

Abstract Background and aims: The incidence of HCC has recently been consistently reported to decline in the United States. However, decreased overall mortality of HCC has just been suggested and needs further examination.
Approach and results: Using data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results databases, we assessed HCC incidence, incidence-based mortality (IBM), and 1-year survival rates from 1992 through 2017 in the United States. These secular trends were analyzed using the National Cancer Institute's Joinpoint Regression Program. Age-period-cohort analyses were performed to address underlying reasons for the observed temporal trends. The incidence and mortality of liver cancer in the United States by different etiologies were acquired from the Global Burden of Disease study (1990-2019) as a likely validation set. Joinpoint and age-period-cohort analyses were performed by etiologies. The incidence rates of HCC increased during 1992-2011 and sharply decreased thereafter by -2.3% annually (95% CI: -3.5% to -1.1%). IBM peaked in 2013 (age-standardized mortality rate: 6.98 per 100,000 person-years) in the US population. IBM started to decrease significantly in 2013 by -3.2%/year (95% CI: -5.4% to -1.1% per year) after a continuous increase of 3.5% annually during 1993-2013. Overall, the 1-year survival of HCC improved from 21.4% to 56.6% over the study period. However, the highest HCC incidence and mortality risk for patients aged 60-69 and born between 1952-1957 were found.
Conclusions: We found significantly decreased overall HCC-specific mortality since 2013 in the US population, along with decreased incidence and continuously improved survival. The changing etiologies, advances in screening and diagnosis, and improved treatment modality and allocation might all contribute to the downward trends of the disease burden of HCC in the United States.

Abstract The study synthesized a series of novel solar light responsive photocatalysts, Cu-doped BiFeO₃ perovskites (BiFe₁₋ₓCuₓO₃, BFCO), via a simple sol-gel method. Its effective application as peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activator under simulated solar irradiation towards ciprofloxacin (CIP) degradation was investigated. The as-prepared samples were characterized by various technologies such as XRD, TEM, BET, XPS, UV-vis DRS et al. The results revealed that Cu was successfully inserted into the BiFeO₃ lattice and the Cu-doping could significantly reduce the optical band gap from 1.85 to 1.70eV, as well as effectively facilitate the separation of electron-hole pair. Notably, the BiFe₀.₉₂Cu₀.₀₈O₃ (0.08BFCO) exhibited the optimal catalytic performance and 80% of CIP could be degraded within 180min with the addition of 1mmol/L PMS and 0.6g/L 0.08BFCO. By contrast, the reaction rate constant of 0.08BFCO was 1.8 times higher than that of pure BiFeO₃. Free radical quenching experiments indicated that ¹O₂, ·O₂⁻ and h⁺ were the dominant active species involved in photocatalytic degradation. The excellent degradation performance could be ascribed to the synergy among 0.08BFCO photocatalyst and PMS activation. Moreover, 0.08BFCO maintained their photo-Fenton catalytic activity after three consecutive cycle reaction, indicating the excellent stability and recyclability of 0.08BFCO. Current study might propose new perspectives for the designing innovative metal doped photocatalysts towards the pollutant degradation assisted by solar light.
