Abstract Hongmei’ is a late-ripening table grape cultivar derived from the cross of *Vitis vinifera* ‘Flaming Muscat’ and *V. vinifera* ‘Manicure Finger’. The aim of the breeding program was to select high quality red table grapes with muscat flavor suited to Henan province conditions. After artificial hybridization pollination in 2009, 331 hybrid seeds were got. The seedlings came into flowering and fruiting successively from 2012. It was initially selected for its good sugar to acid ratios, good color, flavor and high yield. After extensive evaluation of the selection in three growing regions in Henan province from 2013 to 2015, it was finally approved by Henan Provincial Variety Approval Committee in 2015. Tree of ‘Hongmei’ has strong vigor, hermaphrodite flower and diploid. Young shoots tip is half-open, prostrate hairs density is very sparse, erect hairs density is absent. Young leaf is yellow-green and sheen. Mature leaves are pentagonal shape with five lobes, medium depth of upper sinuses, slightly overlapping lobes, V-shaped of base of petiole sinus. The clusters are large, cone shape without shoulder, average cluster weight was 636.7 g, maximum cluster weight was 1 150.0 g, uniform maturation on same bunch, medium density. Berries are long elliptic, have red-violet skin color, big size, average berry weight was 6.3 g, medium thickness of bloom. The content of soluble solid is 19.0%, the content of total sugar is 15.55%, content of total acid is 0.50%, slight muscat flavor. Seeded, seed number per berry is 2-3. Quality is excellent. The berry development period is about 110 d and it matures at the end August in Zhengzhou, Henan province. 76.5% bud burst, 95% bearing shoots. Average cluster number per bearing shoot is 1.2. Position of first inflorescence is on node 3-6. Early bearing, this variety can bear fruits next year after planting, has high yield potential. Its leaf is susceptible to downy mildew. Suitable for arid and semi-arid areas. Vineyard should choose neutral sandy soil which is flat and has ability of moisture and fertilizer retention; suitable for scaffolding cultivation, medium shoot pruning. High yield ability, recommended pinching and berry thinning to control the yield. [AZ 407a]

Abstract ‘Ruidu Hongmei’ is a new grape cultivar released by Beijing Institute of Forestry and Pomology Sciences, this paper introduced its breeding process, main characteristics and cultivated techniques. It was selected from a cross-combination of ‘Jingxiu’ x ‘Xiangfei’. It ripens in mid to late August in Beijing. Its cluster is conical and the compactness is moderate. The average weight of a single berry is 6.6 grams. The skin color is reddish purple. For the flesh, it is firm and crispy. The flavor is sweet with muscat flavor when the fruit is well ripened. The total soluble solids is 17.2 %. The yield is around 30 t/hm2. [AZ 407a]

Abstract Extracts of Jiuqu Hongmei tea were prepared using distilled water, 25% ethanol, 50% ethanol, and 75% ethanol, respectively, and their antioxidant activities and protective capacity on HUVEC cells from damage induced by Na2S2O3 were investigated. All tea extracts exhibited remarkable antioxidant activity, especially E2 extracted by 25% ethanol, Pearson correlation analysis indicated theaflavins, total phenolics, and soluble sugar could be the possible effective components (p < 0.05). Meanwhile, extracts prepared by 25% ethanol and 75% ethanol showed notable protective abilities on HUVEC cells injured by Na2S2O3. Considering the application in functional foods development, 25% ethanol was shown to be a better solvent for retaining phytochemicals of Jiuqu Hongmei tea in this study. PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS: This research focused on the investigation of the antioxidant activities and HUVEC cell protective ability of Jiuqu Hongmei tea extracts prepared by four solvents. Selection of an ideal solvent which can effectively extract the compounds from Jiuqu Hongmei tea is critical, as it determines the amount and type of different compounds extracted. Our findings indicate that the Jiuqu Hongmei tea extracts have remarkble antioxidant potential (1,1‐diphenyl‐2‐picrylhydrazyl, ferric‐reducing antioxidant power, and 2,2′‐azino‐bis‐(3‐ethylbenzothiazoline‐6‐sulphonic acid) diammonium salt assay), as well as notable protective ability on HUVEC cells injured by Na2S2O3, especially the 25% ethanol extract. Hence, the 25% ethanol extract of Jiuqu Hongmei tea may play a promising role in health benefits, nutraceutical, and functional foods development.

Abstract Seamounts are geographically isolated, substrate-rich and highly heterogenetic habitats, where little is known about the population shifts and assembly mechanism of the local microbial communities. In this study, microbes in the sediments across a series of seamounts along the island arc of the Yap and Mariana trenches were investigated via high-throughput sequencing. Clear distance-decay distribution was revealed in a horizontal scale among different seamounts, and in a vertical scale from the summit to the base of seamounts. This biogeography was mainly driven by the deterministic process, although the contribution of stochastic process progressively increased from the summit to the base of seamounts. In addition, higher levels of prokaryotic abundance, diversity, and niche width in the seamounts than the Challenger Deep were observed as well, further proved seamounts as deep oasis for microbes. Spatial heterogeneity of microbial community connectivity among/intra seamounts was demonstrated as well, might be shaped simultaneously by the hydrogeographic variables and the limitation of ocean current dispersal. Overall, this study contributed new insights into the mechanism controlling the microbial community assembly, provide base for future exploration of ecological functions of microbes living in this extreme biosphere.

Abstract A coal model containing gangue was established by discrete elements to study the forces occurring when a shearer cuts coal, and a rigid-flexible coupled shearer section model was established in RecurDyn; the drum cutting process was simulated through bidirectional coupling. The dynamic distribution of the force chain was obtained when cutter teeth cut the coal rock. During the cutting process, the coal rock failure is caused by normal and tangential forces, with the latter having a major role. The ratio of the average tangential force to normal force was 1.34~1.79. When the rock is in the middle of the coal seam, the force (including normal and tangential forces) on the rock is the highest. Moreover, the force on the rock-coal interface is greater than that on the coal-rock interface. The results show that the force on the coal decreases with the increases in rotation speed. In contrast, the number of broken bonds increases. Further, the number of broken bonds and the force of coal increased nonlinearly with traction speed. Finally, the increase of tooth mounting angle decreased the force on the coal rock and the number of broken bonds, followed by an increase. As such, this study provides a reference for further theoretical research on forces in coal cutting.
