Abstract A general strategy to program self-resettable and dissipative toehold-mediated strand displacement reactions was proposed, using DNA strands as the fuel and lambda exonuclease as the fuel-consuming unit. This non-equilibrium system is reversible and temporally controllable. Furthermore, it can be well integrated into a DNA network to temporally control its cascade reaction or dynamic behaviour.

Abstract Circular bacteriocins form a distinct group of antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) characterized by their unique head-to-tail ligated circular structure and functional properties. They belong to the ribosomally synthesized and post-translationally modified peptide (RiPP) family. The ribosomal origin of these peptides facilitates rapid diversification through mutations in the precursor genes combined with specific modification enzymes. In this study, we primarily explored the bacteriocin engineering potential of circularin A, a circular bacteriocin produced by

Abstract Catalytic hydrogenation of nitriles represents an efficient and sustainable one-step synthesis of valuable bulk and fine chemicals. We report herein a molecular cobalt electrocatalyst for selective hydrogenative coupling of nitriles with amines using protons as the hydrogen source. The key to success for this reductive reaction is the use of an electrocatalytic approach for efficient cobalt-hydride generation through a sequence of cathodic reduction and protonation. As only electrons (e

Abstract As reported at the 26th UN Climate Change Conference (COP26), worsening climate situation has led to frequent extreme weather events around the world. The main cause of climate change is carbon emissions from human activities. While realizing rapid economic development, China has become the world's largest energy consumer and carbon emitter. To achieve the goal of carbon neutrality by 2060, it should reasonably use natural resources (NR) and promote energy transition (ET). In this study based on panel data on 30 Chinese provinces from 2004 to 2020, second generation panel unit root tests were performed after validating slope heterogeneity and cross-sectional dependency. Mean group (MG) estimation and error correction model were used to empirically test the impact of natural resources and energy transition on CO

Abstract Reversible structural changes in DNA nanomachines have great potential in the field of bioanalysis. Here, we demonstrate an assembly strategy for quencher-free and tunable DNA tweezers based on 2-aminopurine (2-AP), avoiding the tedious fluorescence labelling step. The conformational state of the tweezers could be controlled by specific oligonucleotides (fuel or anti-fuel). Taking advantage of the local environmental sensitivity of 2-AP, the structural changes of the tweezers were easily tracked, and multiple cyclic switching of the tweezers between the open and closed states was achieved. In addition, the influence of oligonucleotide structure on the fluorescence properties of 2-AP was deeply explored. We figured out that the fluorescence of 2-AP was highly quenched by the base-stacking of natural bases in DNA oligonucleotides. Moreover, by comprehensively regulating the type of bases surrounding the inserted 2-AP site, a sensitive fluorescence response towards dynamic change can be obtained. This principle of quencher-free nanodevices based on 2-AP provides a convenient method for monitoring the structural changes of DNA nanomachines.

Abstract Rationale: Accidents involving chlorinated compounds in the context of cleaning are not uncommon. However, improving the treatment success rate for acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) patients caused by chlorine gas presents significant challenges.
Patient concerns: A 28-year-old female was admitted to the intensive care unit after accidental inhalation of chlorine gas resulting in ARDS.
Diagnoses: The patient was diagnosed with ARDS attributed to chlorine gas exposure.
Interventions: The intervention involved utilizing a combination of awake self-prone positioning (ASPP) and high-flow nasal oxygen therapy for treatment.
Outcomes: After continuous ASPP and high-flow nasal oxygen therapy, the patient quickly recovered and was transferred out of the intensive care unit on the 6th day without any adverse events.
Lessons: ASPP combined with high-flow nasal oxygen therapy can improve patients' hypoxemia, prevent the need for intubation, avoid rapid deterioration of the condition, reduce treatment complexity, and lower mortality rate.
