    Abstract The present study was aimed to obtain a close insight into the distribution and diversity of antibiotic-resistant bacteria (ARB) and antibiotic-resistance genes (ARGs) among the aquatic products collected in Zhejiang, China. A total of 136 presumptive ARB picked up from six aquatic samples were classified into 22 genera and 49 species based on the 16S rDNA sequencing.

    Abstract Purpose: To evaluate the reliability and validity of a newly developed computerized Automated Battery of Cognitive Tests in healthy individuals without cognitive impairments or psychiatric disorders.
    Methods: From April 20 to July 1, 2023, 142 healthy individuals in Beijing and Tangshan, China were assessed using the Automated Battery of Cognitive Tests. After a 3-week interval, 36 participants were randomly selected for retesting. The assessment also included administration of the Repeatable Battery for the Assessment of Neuropsychological Status and the Automated Battery of Cognitive Tests to 59 participants.
    Results: The Automated Battery of Cognitive Tests consists of 16 subtests. Internal consistency reliability was 0.75. The test-retest reliability for each factor ranged from 0.337 to 0.850 (
    Conclusions: The computerized Automated Battery of Cognitive Tests is a cognitive self-assessment tool with good reliability and validity. It can evaluate multiple aspects of cognitive performance in healthy individuals and is suitable for self-administration through remote access

    Abstract Minor beans other than soybeans or peanuts are edible beans (EBs) that significantly contribute to the Chinese agricultural sector and play a vital role in the sustainability of agricultural production, diversification of food consumption, and income generation for producers. These beans are an important source of protein in a healthy diet, helping to improve national food security. In addition, adjusting and optimizing the industrial structure promotes the sustainable development of agriculture and diversifies staple food crops and introduction of new revenue streams for EB products. The current study examines the responses of mung bean and broad bean producers to environmental and internal input constraints. This study uses the production function with a multilevel mixed-effects method and is based on 848 households from two major EB-producing provinces of China in 2018 and 2019. The results show that local climatic conditions influence planting behavior. These types of beans are considered as a supplement and backup crop to the staple crop. Commercialization encourages cultivation. Producers show variable price responses to output prices, but very strong responses to product costs. Minor bean production is favored by small households because of its low labor intensity. For households growing these beans for consumption, soil fertility and environmental outcomes are improved. Findings from research on planting behavior have strong policy implications for guiding research and development for drought and pest resistance, market monitoring for price stabilization, promoting EB production through low-cost technologies, and encouraging sustainable agriculture.

    Abstract In this study, we successfully developed a nanobody-based double antibody sandwich ELISA kit for the detection of clinical serum C-reactive protein (CRP) by using two novel CRP specific nanobodies. The developed method exhibited a linear detection range of approximately 6-200 ng/mL, with a detection limit of 1 ng/mL. Furthermore, the method demonstrated excellent specificity, as there was no cross-reactivity with interfering substances such as total bilirubin and hemoglobin and so on. To assess reproducibility, independent measurements of the samples were conducted under experimental conditions, resulting in intra- and inter-batch coefficients of variation below 10% and a recovery rate of 93%-102%. These results indicate robust reproducibility of the method. To evaluate the performance of the developed kit, we collected 90 clinical samples for correlation analysis with commercial kits. The results showed a high correlation coefficient value (R2) of 0.98, indicating accurate concordance between the developed and commercial kits. In conclusion, our study successfully developed a nanobody-based double antibody sandwich ELISA kit to detect clinical serum CRP. The utilization of nanobodies represents a significant advancement in the field of CRP immunoassay development. The developed kit demonstrates excellent performance characteristics and holds promise for clinical applications.

    Abstract DNA self-assembly provides a "bottom-up" route to fabricating complex shapes on the nanometer scale. However, each structure needs to be designed separately and carried out by professionally trained technicians, which seriously restricts its development and application. Herein, a point-and-shoot strategy based on enzyme-assisted DNA "paper-cutting" to construct planar DNA nanostructures using the same DNA origami as the template is reported. Precisely modeling the shapes with high precision in the strategy based on each staple strand of the desired shape structure hybridizes with its nearest neighbor fragments from the long scaffold strand. As a result, some planar DNA nanostructures by one-pot annealing the long scaffold strand and selected staple strands is constructed. The point-and-shoot strategy of avoiding DNA origami staple strands' re-designing based on different shapes breaks through the shape complexity limitation of the planar DNA nanostructures and enhances the simplicity of design and operation. Overall, the strategy's simple operability and great generality enable it to act as a candidate tool for manufacturing DNA nanostructures.

    Abstract Inflammatory cytokines are known to be involved in acute ischemic stroke (AIS), while the relationship of multiple inflammatory cytokines with mental disorders in AIS is less reported. This research intended to explore the longitudinal variation of common inflammatory cytokines and their correlation with anxiety, depression, and cognitive impairment in AIS patients. Six inflammatory cytokines were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay among 175 AIS patients at admission (baseline) and on the day (D)1, D3, and D7 after admission. Anxiety, depression, and cognition were evaluated using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale and Mini-Mental State Examination at discharge, respectively. Anxiety, depression, and cognitive impairment rates were 32.6, 39.4, and 19.4%, respectively. Tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6, IL-8, and IL-17A increased from baseline to D1, then decreased from D1 to D7 (all P<0.001), while IL-10 presented an opposite trend (P<0.001). Interestingly, TNF-α on D1 and D3, IL-6 on D3, IL-8 on D3 and D7, and IL-17A on D1, D3, and D7 correlated with higher anxiety rate (all P<0.05). TNF-α on D1, D3, and D7, IL-8 at baseline, D1, D3, and D7, IL-17A on D1 and D7 correlated with increased depression rate (all P<0.05). In addition, IL-1β on D1 and IL-17 at baseline, D1, D3, and D7 correlated with elevated cognitive-impairment rate (all P<0.05). Inflammatory cytokines were dysregulated after disease onset, and their longitudinal change correlated with psychological issues in AIS patients.

    Abstract Background: Cell transplants as a treatment for Parkinson's disease have been studied for decades, and stem cells may be the most promising cell sources for this treatment. We aimed to investigate whether stem cell transplantation contributes to the cure for Parkinson's disease and the factors that may influence the efficacy for this therapy.
    Methods: PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, SinoMed, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), China Science and Technology Journal Database (VIP), and ChinaInfo were thoroughly searched to find controlled trials or randomized controlled trials performing stem cell transplantation in patients with Parkinson's disease. The pooled effects were analyzed to evaluate the weighted mean difference (WMD) with 95% confidence intervals.
    Results: Nine articles were identified including 129 individuals. Stem cell transplantation was an effective treatment for Parkinson's disease (WMD = -14.86; 95% CI: -16.62 to -13.10;
    Conclusion: Data from controlled trials suggest that stem cell transplantation as a therapy for Parkinson's disease can be effective for at least 12 months. The factors that may influence its curative effect are time after transplantation and stem cell types.

    Abstract Bromate is a commonly identified carcinogenic and genotoxic disinfection byproduct in water. In the present work, bimetallic Ru-Cu catalyst supported on carbon nanotube (RuCu/CNT) was prepared and the structural properties of the catalysts were characterized. The results show that the presence of Ru enhances the dispersion and reduction of Cu particles in the RuCu/CNT catalyst in comparison with the monometallic Cu catalyst supported on CNT (Cu/CNT). For electrocatalytic reaction on Cu/CNT, bromate is reduced on metallic Cu surface via a redox process. For Ru/CNT, highly active H* radicals are generated on metallic Ru surface via the Volmer process and are used for bromate reduction. As for the RuCu/CNT, bromate is reduced through two main pathways, including direct redox reaction on metallic Cu and indirect reduction by active H* radicals on Ru surface. Accordingly, RuCu/CNT exhibits the highest catalytic activity, ascribed to the synergistic effect between metallic Ru and Cu. Furthermore, the bimetallic catalyst displays much higher catalytic efficiency as compared with previously reported results. The pH, initial bromate concentration, in-situ electrochemical reduction of the electrodes and working potential have strong impacts on the removal efficiency of bromate on RuCu/CNT.
