Abstract Air pollution prediction and damage assessment are important in environmental management. However, existing research focuses more on the short-term prediction and loss assessment regarding past pollution, ignoring the importance of long-term air pollution prediction and impact pre-assessment at the district level. To address these problems, a novel air pollution forecasting, health effects, and economic cost assessment system is proposed for the first time in this study. The system comprises three subsystems: air pollution forecasting, health effects assessment, and economic cost assessment. The air pollution prediction subsystem adopts the popular damping accumulation operator and data-driven iteration mode, exhibiting excellent performance in air pollution prediction. The health effects and economic costs of PM₂.₅ were assessed in the health effects and economic cost assessment subsystems using the log-linear exposure response function and willingness-to-pay method, respectively. The following experimental results were obtained: (1) PM₂.₅ concentrations in downtown Beijing will decrease from 2023 to 2025. (2) Acute bronchial disease accounted for the largest proportion of all health effects. The economic cost of death was the highest. (3) At the C0 = 5 μ/m3 level, the economic cost of Chaoyang District was projected to be relatively the largest in 2023, at approximately 2254.56 million yuan. These findings can be used as a reference for formulating global district-level environmental policies.

Abstract With the development of IoT technology and the improvement of people’s living standards, smart locks have become prevalent in ordinary households. However, for enterprises and institutions requiring unified management and control capabilities for networked smart locks, the technology has been relatively lagging, and there is a lack of established brands. Existing products are mostly based on wireless low-power network protocols, leading to common issues of low stability, limited network scalability, and high maintenance efforts. This paper addresses the problems existing in current networked lock systems and leverages the centralized office characteristics of enterprises and institutions. By integrating IoT technology and Power over Ethernet- (PoE-) centralized power supply, we have developed a networked smart lock system with unified management and control capabilities. This system is primarily designed for applications in offices, collective dormitories, and hotels of enterprises, institutions, and schools. The test results demonstrate that even with a scale of over tens of thousands of networked locks under unified control, the system maintains fast response times and low packet loss rates. It also incorporates energy-saving and environmentally friendly features, as well as easy automatic updates, facilitating convenient postdeployment maintenance. Thus, it effectively meets the requirements for centralized management and control in different application scenarios with centralized use of rooms. In conclusion, this research has led to the development of a unified management and control networked smart lock system, which is well suited for enterprises, institutions, and schools. Its scalability, speed, energy efficiency, and ease of maintenance make it an excellent solution for various application scenarios requiring centralized management and control of access.

Abstract Objective: The purpose of this study was to identify potential predictors of clinical outcome in severe COVID-19 patients and to investigate the relationship between immunological parameters and duration of illness.
Methods: This single-center study retrospectively recruited 73 patients with severe or critical COVID-19. Immunological indicators include white blood cell count, neutrophil count, lymphocyte count, neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio, and circulating inflammatory mediators were observed for their association with disease severity, mortality and duration of illness of COVID-19.
Results: Serum inflammatory mediators levels of C-reactive protein (P = 0.015), interleukin 6 (IL-6) (P < 0.001), CX3CL1 (P < 0.001), D-dimer (P < 0.001) and procalcitonin (PCT) (P < 0.001) were increased in critical illness patients compared to those severe COVID-19 patients. CX3CL1 has the highest C-index (0.75) to predict in-hospital mortality in patients with COVID-19. Furthermore, this study shows for the first time that the duration of illness in severe COVID-19 patients is associated with serum levels of CX3CL1 (P = 0.037) and D-dimer (P = 0.014).
Conclusion: CX3CL1, D-dimer, PCT, and IL-6 could effectively predict mortality in severe COVID-19 patients. In addition, only the circulating levels of CX3CL1 and D-dimer were significantly associated with duration of illness.
