    Abstract In recent decades, with the availability of large-scale scientific corpus datasets, difference-in-difference (DID) is increasingly used in the science of science and bibliometrics studies. DID method outputs the unbiased estimation on condition that several hypotheses hold, especially the common trend assumption. In this paper, we gave a systematic demonstration of DID in the science of science, and the potential ways to improve the accuracy of DID method.

    Abstract Background: Accumulated evidence suggest that tumor microenvironment (TME) plays a crucial role in breast cancer (BRCA) progression and therapeutic effects.
    Objective: This study aimed to characterize immune-related BRCA subtypes in TME, and identify genes with prognostic value.
    Methods: RNA sequencing profiles with corresponding clinical data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database of BRCA patients were downloaded to evaluate immune infiltration using the single-sample gene set enrichment (ssGAEA) algorithm. Further, BRCA was clustered according to immune infiltration status by consensus clustering analysis. Using Venn analysis, differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were overlapped to obtain candidate genes. Kaplan-Meier (K-M) analysis was performed to identify prognostic genes, and the results were verified in the GEO and METABRIC datasets. RT-qPCR was conducted to detect the mRNA expression of prognostic genes.
    Results: In the TCGA database, 3 immune-related BRCA subtypes were identified [cluster1 (C1), cluster2 (C2), and cluster3 (C2)]. The C2 subtype had better overall survival (OS) compared to the C1 subtype. Higher levels of immune markers and checkpoint protein were found in the C2 subtype than in others. By combining DEGs between BRCA and normal tissues, with the C1 and C2 subtypes associated with different OS, 25 BRCA candidate genes were identified. Among these, 8 genes were identified as prognostic genes for BRCA. RT-qPCR showed that the expressions of 2 genes were significantly elevated in BRCA tissues, while that of other genes were decreased.
    Conclusion: Three BRCA subtypes were identified with the immune index, which may help design advanced treatment of BRCA. The data code used for the analysis in this article was available on GitHub (https://github.com/tangzhn/BRCA1.git).

    Abstract Abstract Background Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is characterized by anovulation, insufficient progesterone, hyperandrogenism, and insulin resistance. These factors can disrupt the endometrium of PCOS patients and can lead to chronic low-grade inflammation in the endometrium, endometrial hyperplasia, or even endometrial cancer. Objective The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of premalignant and malignant endometrial polyps in premenopausal women and to further explore whether PCOS is associated with premalignant and malignant changes in endometrial polyps. Methods This study was conducted by retrieving the medical data of 4236 premenopausal women who underwent hysteroscopic polypectomies between January 2015 and December 2021. Demographic and clinical data regarding age, height, weight, parity, hormone replacement therapy, oral contraceptives, abnormal uterine bleeding, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, PCOS, number of polyps, and size of polyps were collected, and their associations with premalignant and malignant changes in endometrial polyps were analysed. Result Among the endometrial polyps removed by hysteroscopic polypectomy in premenopausal women, the prevalence of premalignant and malignant polyps was 2.15%, which comprised hyperplasia with atypia at 1.13% and endometrial carcinoma at 1.02%. PCOS was associated with a higher risk of premalignant and malignant endometrial polyps in premenopausal women after adjustment for potential confounding factors. Conclusion PCOS is associated with a higher risk of premalignant and malignant endometrial polyps in premenopausal women. Therefore, it is important to evaluate the endometrium in PCOS patients with ultrasonography or hysteroscopy, and active management involving hysteroscopic polypectomy should be offered to PCOS patients diagnosed with endometrial polyps regardless of symptoms.

    Abstract The acoustic emission (AE) characteristics of rock during loading can reflect the law of crack propagation and evolution in the rock. In order to study the fracture mode in the process of rock fracture, the AE characteristics and crack types of red sandstone during fracture were investigated by conducting Brazilian indirect tensile tests (BITT), direct shear tests (DST), and uniaxial compression tests (UCT). The evolution law of AE event rate, RA and AF values, and the distribution law of RA–AF data of red sandstone samples in three test types were analyzed. Based on the kernel density estimation (KDE) function and the coupling AE parameters (RA–AF values) in DST and BITT, the relatively objective dividing line for classifying tensile and shear cracks was discussed, and the dividing line was applied to the analysis of fracture source evolution and the failure precursor of red sandstone. The results show that the dividing line for classifying tensile and shear cracks of red sandstone is AF = 93RA + 75. Under uniaxial compression loading, the fracture source of red sandstone is primarily shear source in the initial phase of loading and tensile source in the critical failure phase, and the number is far greater than shear source. K = AF/(93RA + 75) can be defined as the AE parameter index, and its coefficient of variation CV (k) can be used as the failure judgment index of red sandstone. When CV (k) < 1, it can be considered that red sandstone enters the instability failure phase.

    Abstract Purpose: Preeclampsia affects between 2 to 8% of pregnancies worldwide and is associated with significant adverse outcomes for both mothers and their offspring. The present study aims to investigate whether there is a correlation between early age at menarche and an increased risk of developing preeclampsia and experiencing adverse neonatal outcomes.
    Methods: The study involved a review of medical records of 4227 pregnant women who gave birth at The First Affiliated Hospital of Chengdu Medical College between January 2017 and December 2022. The collected data included demographic characteristics, clinical manifestations of preeclampsia, laboratory indicators, gestational complications, and neonatal outcomes. Pregnant women were categorized into four groups based on their age at menarche (≤ 12, 13, 14, and ≥ 15 years). Logistic regression analysis was conducted to calculate the odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for the association between different menarche age groups and the risk of preeclampsia and adverse neonatal outcomes.
    Results: Pregnant women who had an age at menarche of ≤ 12 years had a higher risk of preeclampsia than women who had their menarche at 13, 14, and ≥ 15 years of age, with adjusted ORs (95% CIs) for preeclampsia of 1.00 (reference), 0.78 (0.45-0.91), 0.76 (0.59-0.88), and 0.73 (0.56-0.94), respectively. The predictive efficacy of age at menarche for preeclampsia was assessed with a sensitivity and specificity of 85.2% and 76.4%, respectively, and an AUC of 0.82. Moreover, infants born to women with an age at menarche of ≤ 12 years had a higher risk of adverse neonatal outcomes, including small for gestational age, preterm birth, low birth weight, neonatal respiratory distress syndrome, and neonatal intensive care unit admission.
    Conclusion: Our findings suggest that an early age at menarche is associated with an increased risk of preeclampsia and adverse neonatal outcomes. This information could be useful for obstetricians to identify women at risk for preeclampsia early on and implement timely interventions to reduce the incidence of preeclampsia and associated adverse neonatal outcomes.
