Abstract An 11-year-old spayed female, Persian cat was referred to the Jeonbuk Animal Medical Center for evaluation of a 2-month history of lethargy and anorexia. Physical examination revealed tachycardia and hypotension. Abdominal imaging via sonography and CT identified a right adrenal gland mass causing severe deviation and compression of the caudal vena cava. After stabilising the blood pressure and heart rate through positive inotropes and fluid therapy, right adrenalectomy was performed. Surgery confirmed the adrenal gland mass was severely compressing the caudal vena cava. Histopathological examination revealed that the mass was a pheochromocytoma. After adrenalectomy, blood pressure and heart rate stabilised and remained unaffected 8 months postsurgery. This report describes a rare case of an adrenal pheochromocytoma leading to caudal vena cava compression in a cat presenting with hypotension.

Abstract Background: Percutaneous renal cyst sclerotherapy (PRCS) as a treatment for renal cysts is usually performed with a high concentration of ethanol (≥ 90%). This study reviewed cases in which a lower concentration of ethanol (83%) was used for the procedure in dogs.
Methods: Records of cases of renal cysts treated by sclerotherapy using 83% ethanol in dogs were reviewed. Outcomes of the treatment were evaluated by comparing volumes of renal cysts before the procedure and the volumes after treatment, using ultrasound images with the volume reduction rates classified as follows: < 50% of initial volume (failed); ≥ 50% but < 80% of initial volume (partial success); ≥ 80% but < 95% of initial volume (great success); ≥ 95% of initial volume (complete success).
Results: Out of nine dog kidneys, renal cysts sclerotherapy with 83% ethanol achieved partial success in one kidney, great success in four, and complete success in the other four. No side effect was observed. The mean of the volume-reduction rates was 90.00 ± 11.00 while the minimum and maximum reduction rates were 65% and 100%, respectively.
Conclusions: The lower ethanol concentration (83%) is good for disinfecting kidneys in PRCS.

Abstract We introduce and study in this paper the policy design improvement regarding the public procurement process for public management innovation. Public procurement is obtained transparently and efficiently at the exact cost of goods, constructions, services, among others. In addition, it has decreased the national budget and supported the national economic development. Most of the major contributions of public procurement included support for small businesses, jobs, and balanced regional development. Nevertheless, a lot of issues have become apparent during the public procurement process, thus requiring preventive measures. The aim of this study is to demonstrate an enhanced public procurement process and develop efficient policies in the future. For this reason, we investigated the issues regarding South Korea’s public procurement process, and concentrated on policy improvement. It is our intention to provide a highly efficient global public procurement process that can be used as an academic paper that will help in developing South Korea’s public procurement process and policy direction.

Abstract Underpotential deposition (UPD) is an intriguing means for tailoring the interfacial electronic structure of an adsorbate at a substrate. Here we investigate the impact of UPD on thermoelectricity occurring in molecular tunnel junctions based on alkyl self-assembled monolayers (SAMs). We observed noticeable enhancements in the Seebeck coefficient of alkanoic acid and alkanethiol monolayers, by up to 2- and 4-fold, respectively, upon replacement of a conventional Au electrode with an analogous bimetallic electrode, Cu UPD on Au. Quantum transport calculations indicated that the increased Seebeck coefficients are due to the UPD-induced changes in the shape or position of transmission resonances corresponding to gateway orbitals, which depend on the choice of the anchor group. Our work unveils UPD as a potent means for altering the shape of the tunneling energy barrier at the molecule-electrode contact of alkyl SAM-based junctions and hence enhancing thermoelectric performance.
