Abstract This article explores whether pay decisions based on pre-contract efficiency are necessarily correct. Overcoming methodology problems of previous studies, we use each player’s contract of National Basketball Association (NBA) as an observation. The empirical results show that managers indeed pay their employees according to an evaluation of their pre-contract efficiency. However, the pay decisions are not correct. Relative to the final year of the last contract, employees’ efficiency in the first year of the current contract decreases with increased salary. The reason is that managers put more weight on players’ efficiency in the final year of the last contract than on the average efficiency. Our findings deepen our understanding of the mechanism of compensation contract.

Abstract WeChat is a highly popular social media in China and many other Asian countries, but little is known about its effectiveness in facilitating international students' academic and social functioning. Hence, the present study aimed to examine causal or reciprocal relationships among WeChat usage intensity, behavioral engagement in academic learning (BE-academic) and in local social activities (BE-social), and academic and social adjustment. To this end, we employed a three-wave longitudinal design among international students in China with data collected at three times (i.e., Time 1 data collected in December of 2020, Time 2 data collected in March of 2021, and Time 3 data collected in June of 2021). Results based on the cross-lagged panel analyses indicated that in academic domains, WeChat usage intensity positively predicted longitudinal changes in BE-academic and academic adjustment positively predicted longitudinal changes in WeChat usage intensity across Time 1 and Time 3. In social domains, WeChat usage intensity positively predicted longitudinal changes in BE-social and social adjustment, and BE-social positively predicted longitudinal changes in social adjustment from Time 1 to Time 2. Additionally, the reverse effects of social adjustment on WeChat usage intensity were revealed across Time 1 and Time 3.

Abstract Introduction: Increased body fat may influence the partition coefficients of inhaled anesthetics. We compared patient responses to desflurane and sevoflurane anesthesia, as measured by a quicker recovery and fewer complications, in patients with higher body fat percentages, not only obese people.
Methods: This study included 120 patients. Participants were stratified into low or high body fat percentages groups using bioelectrical impedance analysis and were randomized 1:1 to receive desflurane or sevoflurane as an inhaled anesthetic, recorded as Low-Desflurane, Low-Sevoflurane, High- Desflurane, and High-Sevoflurane. Recovery time, Riker sedation-agitation scale scores, and complications were recorded over 1 hour in the post-anesthesia care unit.
Results: A total of 106 patients were analyzed. There were no significant differences in the overall recovery time between the patient subgroups with higher and lower body fat percentages; in addition, there were no significant differences in the incidence of nausea, vomiting, dizziness, or headache (all p>0.05). However, the incidence of agitation emergence in the HighSevoflurane subgroup was significantly higher compared to the High-Desflurane subgroup (33.3% vs.7.41%; p = 0.043).
Conclusion: In conclusion, for patients with a lower body fat percentage, both desflurane and sevoflurane can provide good and fast recovery; for patients with a higher body fat percentage, desflurane may provide better recovery with a lower incidence of agitation emergence compared to sevoflurane.

Abstract (1) Background: Heterotrophs can affect plant biomass and alter species diversity-productivity relationships. However, these studies were conducted in systems with a low nitrogen (N) availability, and it is unclear how heterotroph removal affects the relationship between plant species diversity and productivity in different N habitats. (2) Methods: Three typical understory herbaceous plants were selected to assemble the plant species diversity (three plant species richness levels (1, 2, and 3) and seven plant species compositions), and the control, insecticide, fungicide, and all removal treatments were performed at each plant species diversity level in systems with or without N addition treatments. (3) Results: In systems without N addition, the insecticide treatment increased the plant aboveground biomass, total biomass, and leaf area, while the fungicide treatment reduced the plant belowground biomass, root length, and root tip number; the presence of

Abstract Objective: To systemically evaluate the efficacy and safety of diterpene ginkgolides meglumine injection (DGMI) on cerebral infarction (CI).
Methods: Comprehensively collect randomized controlled trials of DGMI in the treatment of CI in 7 databases including Embase, PubMed, the Cochrane Library, the China National Knowledge Infrastructure Database, the WanFang Database, the China Science and Technology Journal Database, and the China Biology Medicinedisc as of January 2023. The studies were screened according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria and evaluated according to the criteria recommended by the Cochrane Handbook, then RevMan 5.3, Stata 12.0 software were used for Meta-analysis.
Results: A total of 22 randomized controlled trials with 2194 patients were included. Meta analysis showed that: the total effective rate of treatment (relative risk = 1.29, 95% confidence interval (1.21, 1.38), P < .001), National Institute of Health stroke scale score, Barthel index and Modified Rankin Scale were better in DGMI group than in Conventional Western Medicine Treatment group. The included studies reported 42 adverse events, 25 of which belonged to DGMI groups.
Conclusion: Available evidence suggested that DGMI can significantly improve the clinical efficiency in the treatment of CI. DGMI is an ideal treatment for CI, which has high clinical application value.
