Abstract The ion exchange reaction has been extensively used in the field of synthesis of functionalized supramolecular materials such as layered double hydroxides (LDHs), ion-embedded batteries, sewage disposal and so on. In this work, the factors influencing the anion exchange behavior in the LDH gallery, such as the exchange domain, the exchange order, the driving force, and the diffusion of the anions, are investigated systematically using molecular dynamics (MD) simulations and density functional theory (DFT) methods in view of both thermodynamics and dynamics. 159 models of MIIRAl-A-LDHs (MII = Mg, Ni, Zn; R = 1.4-8, A = OH-, Cl-, Br-, NO3-, HCOO-, C6H5SO3-, CO32-, SO42-, and PO43-, respectively) are calculated. The results reveal that the anion exchange domain (interlayer distance) in LDHs is determined not only by the size and their arrangement modes of the guest anions, but also by the charges the anions carry. The relative binding energies of different anions and the Gibbs free energy changes of the anion exchange reactions in LDHs decrease in the order of PO43- > CO32- > SO42- > OH- > Cl- > Br- > HCOO- > NO3- > C6H5SO3-, which is in accordance with the experimental anion exchange order. The stronger the hydrogen bonding between the anion and the host, the larger the charge transfer, and the smaller the electronegativity of the anion, the more difficult it is for the anion to be exchanged out from LDH interlayer. In addition, for the anions with the same charges, the relative binding energy is linearly well correlated with the interlayer spacing. By analyzing the contribution of each energetic item comprising the total potential energy, it is found that the major driving force of anion exchange is the electrostatic force. The diffusion coefficient (D) along the c direction is nearly equal to zero, suggesting that the diffusion of anions occurs mainly in the ab plane of the LDH cell. It also can be inferred that when the cell parameter c < 24.0 Å, the anion exchange order is mainly determined by the thermodynamic factors, whereas when c > 24.0 Å, both the thermodynamic and the dynamic factors cast the same effect on the anion exchange behavior. This work provides an in-depth understanding of the anion exchange behavior, and is helpful guidance for the design and synthesis of functionalized guest anion intercalated LDHs and related materials using the anion-exchange method.

Abstract Objective: To develop a contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) M-score and compare it with LR-M in CEUS Liver Imaging Reporting and Data System (LI-RADS).
Methods: We retrospectively enrolled 105 consecutive high-risk patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and 105 with intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC). The subjects were selected by propensity score matching between November 2003 and December 2017. A CEUS M-score for predicting ICC was constructed based on specific CEUS features by the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regularised regression. M-score was used to develop a modified CEUS LI-RADS. The diagnostic performance of the modified CEUS LI-RADS using M-score for diagnosing HCC and ICC was compared with American College of Radiology (ACR) CEUS LI-RADS using LR-M.
Results: The most useful features for ICC were as follows: poorly circumscribed (69.52%), rim enhancement (63.81%), early washout (92.38%), intratumoural vein (56.19%), obscure boundary of intratumoural non-enhanced area (57.14%), and marked washout (59.05%, all p < 0.001). For predicting ICC, the M-score had a higher specificity (88.57% vs. 63.81%) with lower sensitivity (89.52% vs. 95.24%) compared with LR-M. For diagnosing HCC, the sensitivity of modified LI-RADS (80.95%) was much higher than that of ACR LI-RADS (57.14%), but the specificity was lower (90.48% vs. 96.19%). The area under the curve (AUC) of modified LI-RADS (0.857) was much higher than that of ACR LI-RADS (0.767, p = 0.0001). The modified positive predictive value (PPV) of ACR LI-RADS and modified LI-RADS were 99.42% and 98.99%, respectively.
Conclusions: The modified LI-RADS with M-score had higher sensitivity for diagnosing HCC and higher specificity for diagnosing ICC than ACR LI-RADS.
Key points: • For predicting ICC, the M-score had a higher specificity (88.57% vs. 63.81%) with lower sensitivity (89.52% vs. 95.24%) compared with LR-M. • A CEUS M-score for predicting ICC consisted of more detailed CEUS features (poorly circumscribed, rim enhancement, early washout, intratumoural vein, obscure boundary of intratumoural non-enhanced area, and marked washout) was constructed. • For diagnosing HCC, the sensitivity of modified LI-RADS (80.95%) was much higher than that of ACR LI-RADS (57.14%), but the specificity was lower (90.48% vs. 96.19%). The modified positive predictive value (PPV) of ACR LI-RADS and modified LI-RADS were 99.42% and 98.99%, respectively.

Abstract There are two important events in oocyte meiotic maturation, the G2/M transition and metaphase I progression. Thousands of proteins participate in regulating oocyte maturation, which highlights the importance of the ubiquitin proteasome system (UPS) in regulating protein synthesis and degradation. Skp1-Cullin-F-box (SCF) complexes, as the best characterized ubiquitin E3 ligases in the UPS, specifically recognize their substrates. F-box proteins, as the variable adaptors of SCF, can bind substrates specifically. Little is known about the functions of the F-box proteins in oocyte maturation. In this study, we found that depletion of FBXO34, an F-box protein, led to failure of oocyte meiotic resumption due to a low activity of MPF, and this phenotype could be rescued by exogenous overexpression of CCNB1. Strikingly, overexpression of FBXO34 promoted germinal vesicle breakdown (GVBD), but caused continuous activation of spindle assembly checkpoint (SAC) and MI arrest of oocytes. Here, we demonstrated that FBXO34 regulated both the G2/M transition and anaphase entry in meiotic oocytes.

Abstract Bio-degradation is the most affordable method of azo dye decontamination, while its drawbacks such as aromatic amines accumulation and low degradation efficiency must be overcome. In this study, a novel mechanism of azo dye degradation by a fungus was discovered. At a concentration of 400 mg/L, the decolorization efficiency of Acid Red 73 (AR73) by Aspergillus tabacinus LZ-M was 90.28%. Metabolite analysis and transcriptome sequencing analysis revealed a self-redox process of AR73 degradation, where the electrons generated in carbon oxidation were transferred to the reduction of -C-N = and -NN. The metabolites, 2-hydroxynaphthalene and N-phenylnitrous amide were mineralized into CO

Abstract Mattirolomyces is an edible commercial sequestrate genus that is globally distributed. From the five described taxa of this genus, Mattirolomyces terfezioides is the most common species in Asia. Our recent attempts to locate M. terfezioides outside its current distribution area in China documented its first records in areas of poplar trees with the lowest known temperature and precipitation averages ever recorded for this species. This peculiar ecology was not reflected on the species-morphological features nor on its phylogenetic position in the genus. The first attempt to apply the phylogenetic network approach to Mattirolomyces revealed its geographic origin in the Asian-Pacific areas prior to frequent long-distance migration events. Based on data from recent study areas, we found that the collections from Inner Mongolia and the Shanxi province were similar to European collections. Asian haplotypes were less distant from the outgroup comparing to collections from Europe, supporting the hypothesis that M. terfezioides was originated from this Chinese area and was subsequently transported to Europe. Exploring M. terfezioides ecology and its mycorrhiza potential to grow in association with poplars would be of great importance for planning cultivation projects of this valuable desert truffle species in Central and Eastern China, a currently underexploited economic sector that deserves further ecological and M. terfezioides mycorrhizal synthesis investigations.

Abstract Photocatalytic CO₂ reduction (CO₂PR) is of great significance for high-density solar energy storage and carbon balance, and layered double hydroxides (LDHs) as CO₂PR catalysts have attracted much attention. In this work, the electronic properties such as the band structure, density of states and band edge placement of 10 Mᴵᴵ₂Mᴵᴵᴵ/ᴵⱽ-NO₃-LDHs (Mᴵᴵ = Mg²⁺, Co²⁺, Ni²⁺, Zn²⁺; Mᴵᴵᴵ = Al³⁺, In³⁺, Cr³⁺, Fe³⁺; Mᴵⱽ = Ti⁴⁺), thermodynamic mechanism, and thermodynamically favorable products of CO₂PR, especially CO and CH₄, over these LDHs are investigated by using Hubbard-corrected density functional theory. The calculation results indicate that all LDHs except the Mg₂Al- and Mg₂In-LDHs are responsive to visible light, and all the LDHs have enough driving force to undergo CO₂PR to products except the Ni₂Al- and Ni₂Fe-LDHs. For Mg- and Zn-containing LDHs, the COOH pathway is favorable, while the Ni₂Ti- and Co₂Al-LDHs prefer the HCOO pathway. According to the minimum-free-energy reaction pathway, for Co₂Fe-LDH, CO₂PR prefers to generate HCOOH, and the potential-determining step is HCOO* → HCOOH*. For the Mg₂Al-, Mg₂In-, Co₂Al-, Ni₂Ti-, Zn₂Al-, Zn₂Cr-, and Zn₂Ti-NO₃-LDHs, CH₄ is the favorable final product via HCOOH, HCHO, or CH₃OH intermediates. The formation of CO mainly goes through the COOH pathway. The relationship between the effective driving force of CO₂PR to CH₄ or CO and the adsorption energy of the reactant CO₂ or the valence band maximum (VBM) of LDHs reveals that the Mg₂In-LDH and Mg₂Al-LDH, which have a moderate adsorption and VBM favor CO₂PR to CH₄ and CO the most, respectively. On the Co₂Fe-LDH (110), CO₂ prefers to form CH₄ than that of the Co₂Fe-LDH (003), which indicates that the crystal faces also affect favorable products of CO₂PR. This work provides useful information of the photocatalytic performance of LDH materials for CO₂PR and is helpful for the design of highly efficient CO₂PR catalysts.
