Abstract A simple and selective HPLC method for simultaneous determination and quantification of anthraquinones, lignans and flavonoids in Xiao-Cheng-Qi Tang (XCQT), Hou-Po-San-Wu Tang (HPSWT) and Hou-Po-Da-Huang Tang (HPDHT) was developed and validated. An Agilent Zorbax SB-C 18 (4.6 mm x 250 mm, 5 µm) column with the mobile phase of acetonitrile and 0.5% acetic acid aqueous solution in gradient elution mode was used. The flow rate was 1.0 mL · min(-1) at 30 °C, and injection volume was 10 µL. The detection wavelength was set at 254 nm and 294 nm simultaneously for the quantitative analysis. The current HPLC assay was validated for linearity, intra-day and inter-day precisions, accuracy, recovery and stability. The method was applied to the content comparison of the gallic acid, cinnamic acid, sennoside A, sennoside B, rhein, emodin, aloe-emodin, chrysophanol, physcion, magnolol, honokiol, narirutin, naringin, hesperidin, neohesperidin, hesperetin, naringenin and nobiletin in XCQT, HPSWT and HPDHT. The good linear equations of eighteen constituents were obtained within the investigated ranges (r > 0.998). The recovery of the method was 94.28%-99.89% and the precision was less than 5%. The sample was stable within 16 h. There were some differences between the contents of anthraquinones, lignans and flavonoids in analogous formulae about XCQT. XCQT contained the greatest abundance of anthraquinones and flavonoid, HPSWT contained the greatest abundance lignans. In conclusion, the methods are simple, low-cost, precise, accurate and reliable for the determination of eighteen constituents in analogous formulae about XCQT, and these results provide methodological support for its quality control.

Abstract This book aims to provide readers updated information on diagnosis and management of infectious diseases in children, especially those prevailing in Asian countries. Each chapter presents with one to two typical clinical cases first and then introduces the epidemiology, and the pearls of clinical skills in diagnosis and treatment of most frequent infectious pediatric diseases occurred in respiratory tract, gastrointestinal tract, central nervous system, bone/joint, skin and soft tissue. Infectious diseases in neonates, vaccine-associated adverse effects, and specific syndromes prevailing in Asian countries are also discussed with details. Written by experts in the field, this case-based book will be a useful reference for infectious disease researchers and paediatricians, as well as those who are interested in related field. .

Abstract Background: After receiving radiation therapy, 60%-95% of patients with cancer develop radiodermatitis, which causes pain, wound infection, and poor quality of life. Glutamine is a popular nutritional supplement for patients with cancer. Several studies examined the usefulness of glutamine for reducing radiodermatitis. However, there is still no consolidated evidence for clinical use.
Methods: We searched PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, CINAHL PLUS, and the China Knowledge Resource Integrated Database for the relevant literature published up to March 2023, without language restrictions. Two reviewers screened, filtered, and appraised these articles independently, and their data were pooled using a random-effects model.
Results: Five randomized controlled trials (RCTs) with 218 participants were analyzed. The incidence of radiodermatitis in the glutamine group (89/110) was significantly lower than in the placebo group (99/108; risk ratio [RR], 0.90; 95% CI, 0.81-1.00; p = 0.05; I
Conclusion: The meta-analysis indicate that glutamine might lead to a lower incidence of radiodermatitis, and that a glutamine dose of 20-30 g/day might decrease the incidence of moderate to severe dermatitis. Thus, the serious impact of radiodermatitis on treatment follow-up makes the clinical use of glutamine even more important. PROSPERO number: CRD42021254394.

Abstract We report the discovery and biosynthesis of new piperazine alkaloids-arizonamides, and their derived compounds-arizolidines, featuring heterobicyclic and spirocyclic isoquinolone skeletons, respectively. Their biosynthetic pathway involves two crucial non-heme iron enzymes, ParF and ParG, for core skeleton construction. ParF has a dual function facilitating 2,3-alkene formation of helvamide, as a substrate for ParG, and oxidative cleavage of piperazine. Notably, ParG exhibits catalytic versatility in multiple oxidative reactions, including cyclization and ring reconstruction. A key amino acid residue Phe67 was characterized to control the formation of the constrained arizonamide B backbone by ParG.

Abstract Background and purpose: Basilar-artery occlusion (BAO) usually accounts for devastating neurologic sequelae, poor prognosis, and even death. While endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) is the most successful treatment for anterior circulation stroke with large vessel occlusion, its effectiveness in treating acute BAO is still debatable. Our aim is to compare the efficacy and safety between EVT and conservative medical treatment (CMT) in BAO.
Methods: Up until May 2022, relevant literature was gathered using searches in Embase, PubMed, and the Cochrane Library. The primary outcomes were defined as good functional outcome (modified Rankin Scale 0-2) and favorable functional outcome (modified Rankin Scale 0-3) at 3 months between EVT and CMT groups. The secondary outcomes included mortality at 3 months, symptomatic intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), and any ICH.
Results: Eight studies involving 3733 patients with BAO were enrolled 2573 individuals underwent EVT, and the remaining 1160 patients received CMT. Compared with CMT, EVT achieved more favorable functional outcome (odds ratio (OR) 1.26, 95% CI 1.03-1.55,
Conclusions: EVT in BAO provides superior functional outcomes and less mortality compared with CMT. Even though EVT has the propensity to cause symptomatic ICH, EVT nevertheless improved posterior circulation stroke.

Abstract The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of constraint-induced movement therapy on stroke patients who had intact cognition and some voluntary finger extension and to identify optimal protocols to apply this therapy method. We searched PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Embase for randomized controlled trials conducted prior to January 2022. The outcomes included the Motor Activity Log, Fugl-Meyer Assessment, and Wolf Motor Function Test. The inverse variance method fixed-effect model as well as the DerSimonian and Laird estimator random-effects model were applied, and the mean difference was calculated with 95% confidence interval to measure continuous outcomes. Six randomized controlled trials involving a total of 169 patients with stroke were enrolled. Compared with conventional rehabilitation methods, there was no significant effect of constraint-induced movement therapy when evaluated by the Motor Activity Log, including the amount of use (random-effect, standardized mean difference 0.65; 95%, confidence interval: -0.23-1.52) and quality of movement (random-effect, standardized mean difference 0.60; 95% confidence interval: -0.19-1.39). However, among patients with chronic stroke symptoms, meta-regression analyses showed better performance with a constraint time of at least 6 h per day and 6 h training per week when assessing the amount of use (
