Abstract A study was conducted to analyze the visible named toe deformities that occur in foot of patients with diabetes through the new Amit Jains extended SCC classification. A total of 27 patients were included who fulfilled the criteria. Majority of the patients (59.3%) were males. 11.1% of patients had diabetes of more than 24 years duration. Type 1 toe deformities were the most common deformities seen in 85.2% of the cases. Hammer toe was the commonest pathological type followed by claw toes. Around 14.8% had underlying callus/ulcers (complex deformity). This new classification is simple and easy to use in clinical practice. [Med-Science 2020; 9(4.000): 982-7]

Abstract The aim of this study was to test the new Amit Jains diabetic foot ulcer scoring and determine the predictive validity of this simple scoring for amputation in diabetic foot ulcers. This newly derived score was applied to the above authors study that was previously done on 54 patients with diabetic foot ulcer. The mean Amit Jains scoring (AJ Scoring) was 5.31±1.37. Majority of the patients were in moderate risk category. 33.33% had amputation. Significant association (P=0.02) was noted with Amit Jains increasing score and amputation. Patients who had major amputation were in high-risk category group (P=0.006). The odds ratio for major amputation category was 3.39. This newly derived Amit Jains diabetic foot ulcer score is simple, easy to remember score that is an excellent predictor of amputation. Further studies are needed to know its predictive ability for healing of the ulcer. [Med-Science 2021; 10(3.000): 741-5]

Abstract The aim of this study was to evaluate trans metatarsal amputation (TMA) done in diabetic foot through Amit Jains universal classification and scoring system and assess major amputations done in them. We conducted a descriptive retrospective analysis from 2 centers namely Amit Jains Institute of Diabetic Foot &Wound Care at Brindhavvan Areion Hospital and at Department of surgery, Raja Rajeswari medical college, Bengaluru, India. The study period was from January 2017 to June 2018. 15 patients were recruited in the study with 73.3% of them being males. Around 20 % of them were above 70 years of age. Majority of patients who underwent TMA had open stump and it had significant association with duration of diabetes. Specialist diabetic foot surgeon had significant propensity to close the stump after trans metatarsal amputation (P [Med-Science 2020; 9(4.000): 888-95]

Abstract An audit was conducted from 2 centres to analyze and study the therapeutic footwear used in diabetic foot patients through the new Amit Jains classification for therapeutic footwear. Twenty seven new patients who were on therapeutic foot wear were studied. The majority were males. Most of the patients had diabetes duration of more than 20 years (48.7%). Most of the patients were on diabetic sandals (81.5%) followed by modified molded (Custom) footwear (7.4%). Majority of the Footwear used were type 1 diabetic footwear (81.5%). There was a significance difference seen with type of footwear and duration of footwear usage with age wherein type 1 therapeutic footwear were used commonly in patients with age less than and also in patients with more than 60 years whereas type 3 foot wear was used only by patients of less than 60 years. Further, patients above 60 years duration were using therapeutic footwear for more than 2 years without changing them. Amit Jains classification for therapeutic footwear is a new, simple, practical, easy to remember classification for diabetic foot wear wherein all footwears can easily be categorized in any one of the 3 categorizes and it helps in our understanding of diabetic footwear usage.
