Multi-view Robust Representation Learning via Hybrid Contrastive Fusion

    2022

Abstract: ... classification. Our source code will be available soon at \url{https://github.com/guanzhou-ke/mori-ran ...

Abstract Multi-view representation learning is essential for many multi-view tasks, such as clustering and classification. However, there are two challenging problems plaguing the community: i)how to learn robust multi-view representation from mass unlabeled data and ii) how to balance the view consistency and the view specificity. To this end, in this paper, we proposed a hybrid contrastive fusion algorithm to extract robust view-common representation from unlabeled data. Specifically, we found that introducing an additional representation space and aligning representations on this space enables the model to learn robust view-common representations. At the same time, we designed an asymmetric contrastive strategy to ensure that the model does not obtain trivial solutions. Experimental results demonstrated that the proposed method outperforms 12 competitive multi-view methods on four real-world datasets in terms of clustering and classification. Our source code will be available soon at \url{https://github.com/guanzhou-ke/mori-ran}.

Abstract The evolution of network technologies has witnessed a paradigm shift toward open and intelligent networks, with the Open Radio Access Network (O-RAN) architecture emerging as a promising solution. O-RAN introduces disaggregation and virtualization, enabling network operators to deploy multi-vendor and interoperable solutions. However, managing and automating the complex O-RAN ecosystem presents numerous challenges. To address this, machine learning (ML) techniques have gained considerable attention in recent years, offering promising avenues for network automation in O-RAN. This paper presents a comprehensive survey of the current research efforts on network automation usingML in O-RAN.We begin by providing an overview of the O-RAN architecture and its key components, highlighting the need for automation. Subsequently, we delve into O-RAN support forML techniques. The survey then explores challenges in network automation usingML within the O-RAN environment, followed by the existing research studies discussing application of ML algorithms and frameworks for network automation in O-RAN. The survey further discusses the research opportunities by identifying important aspects whereML techniques can benefit.

Title translation Local management of purulent wounds with wound dressings.
Abstract Purulent-inflammatory lesions of skin and soft tissues account for 30-35% of causes of admission to surgical hospitals. In outpatient system, this value reaches 35-60%. Moreover, suppuration of wounds after elective surgery occurs in 2-5% of cases. Adequately selected drugs for local wound therapy can achieve localization of purulent process and avoid spread of infection. This review summarizes data on development, experimental and clinical testing of wound dressings over the past 10 years, presents classification options and analyzes their advantages and disadvantages. The authors emphasize higher efficacy of hydrophilic coatings, and coatings based on chitosan, collagen, methylcellulose and its derivatives are preferred. It is advisable to introduce a component with antimicrobial, anesthetic and hemostatic activity stimulating tissue regeneration into the matrix of wound dressing. The priority is introduction of antiseptic substances causing fewer side effects compared to antibiotics. Further research and development of new wound dressings is a priority in surgery considering changing landscape and development of resistance of microorganisms.

Abstract Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a common malignant tumor with high mortality. The prognostic significance of Ran, a member of Ras superfamily, remains unclear in HCC patients.
Methods: Based on The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database and Tumor Immune Estimation Resource (TIMER), we analyzed the correlations among Ran expression, promoter methylation and immune cell infiltration. We also investigated the Ran expression levels in HCC tissues and normal tissues by using quantitative real-time PCR.
Results: Ran mRNA expression was significantly increased in HCC tissues compared with the normal tissues (P < 0.001). Time-dependent receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves showed that Ran expression had predictive value of the 1-, 3- and 5-year overall survival for HCC patients, and the areas under the curves (AUC) were 0.747, 0.634 and 0.704, respectively. Cox regression analysis showed that Ran expression was an independent prognostic factor for HCC patients (HR = 1.492, 95% CI: 1.129-1.971, P = 0.005). We also found a negative relationship between Ran mRNA expression and its promoter methylation (r = -0.36, P < 0.001). High Ran expression and promoter hypomethylation predicted worse overall survival and progression-free survival (P < 0.05) and were involved in the progression of HCC. Ran expression exhibited significant correlations with immune infiltrates and prognostic immune-related genes.
Conclusions: The present study provides further insight into the prognosis of HCC, and Ran could serve as a biomarker for predicting the survival of HCC patients.

Abstract Open Radio Access Network (O-RAN), a novel architecture that separates the traditional radio access network (RAN) into multiple disaggregated components, leads a revolution in the telecommunication ecosystems. Compared to the traditional RAN, the proposed O-RAN paradigm is more flexible and more cost-effective for the operators, vendors, and the public. The key design considerations of O-RAN include virtualization and intelligent capabilities in order to meet the new requirements of 5G. However, because of the open nature and the newly imported techniques in O-RAN architecture, the assessment of the security in O-RAN architecture during its early development stage is crucial. This project aims to present an investigation of the current ORAN architecture from several attack surfaces, including (1) Architectural openness, (2) Cloud and Virtualization, (3) Network slicing, and (4) Machine Learning. The existing attack surfaces and corresponding mitigation methods of these attacks are also surveyed and provided in this report, serving as a guiding principle and valuable recommendation for the O-RAN implementers and framework designers.

Abstract Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is usually characterized with disrupted bile acid (BA) homeostasis. However, the exact role of certain BA in NAFLD is poorly understood. Here we show levels of serum hyodeoxycholic acid (HDCA) decrease in both NAFLD patients and mice, as well as in liver and intestinal contents of NAFLD mice compared to their healthy counterparts. Serum HDCA is also inversely correlated with NAFLD severity. Dietary HDCA supplementation ameliorates diet-induced NAFLD in male wild type mice by activating fatty acid oxidation in hepatic peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor α (PPARα)-dependent way because the anti-NAFLD effect of HDCA is abolished in hepatocyte-specific Pparα knockout mice. Mechanistically, HDCA facilitates nuclear localization of PPARα by directly interacting with RAN protein. This interaction disrupts the formation of RAN/CRM1/PPARα nucleus-cytoplasm shuttling heterotrimer. Our results demonstrate the therapeutic potential of HDCA for NAFLD and provide new insights of BAs on regulating fatty acid metabolism.

Abstract Base station (BS) sleeping, a promising technique to address the growing energy consumption in wireless communication networks, encounters challenges such as coverage holes and coupled uplink and downlink transmissions. As an innovative architecture designed for future-generation mobile communication networks, the fully-decoupled radio access network (FD-RAN) is anticipated to overcome these challenges by fully decoupled control-data planes and uplink-downlink transmissions. In this paper, we investigate energy-efficient uplink FD-RAN leveraging flexible BS sleeping and resource cooperation. First, we introduce a holistic energy consumption model and formulate a bi-level energy efficiency maximizing problem for FD-RAN, involved with the joint optimization of user equipment (UE) association, BS sleeping, and power control. Subsequently, through employing the Tammer decomposition method, the formulated bi-level problem is converted into two equivalent upper-level and lower-level problems. The lower-level problem encompassed with UE power control is addressed by introducing a successive lower-bound maximization-based Dinkelbach's algorithm, and the upper-level problem for UE association and BS sleeping is solved through a modified low-complexity many-to-many swap matching algorithm, respectively. Extensive simulation results not only demonstrate the superior effectiveness of FD-RAN and our proposed algorithms but also reveal the sources of energy efficiency gains within FD-RAN.

Abstract: ... free radio access network (CF-RAN) architecture with a minimum footprint of communication resources ... time-frequency domain but in different spatial domains when multiple RRUs jointly serve users in CF-RAN ...

Abstract This paper investigates how to achieve integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) based on a cell-free radio access network (CF-RAN) architecture with a minimum footprint of communication resources. We propose a new passive sensing scheme. The scheme is based on the radio frequency (RF) fingerprint learning of the RF radio unit (RRU) to build an RF fingerprint library of RRUs. The source RRU is identified by comparing the RF fingerprints carried by the signal at the receiver side. The receiver extracts the channel parameters from the signal and estimates the channel environment, thus locating the reflectors in the environment. The proposed scheme can effectively solve the problem of interference between signals in the same time-frequency domain but in different spatial domains when multiple RRUs jointly serve users in CF-RAN architecture. Simulation results show that the proposed passive ISAC scheme can effectively detect reflector location information in the environment without degrading the communication performance.

Abstract Due to the high variability of the traffic in the radio access network (RAN), fixed network configurations are not flexible to achieve the optimal performance. Our vendors provide several settings of the eNodeB to optimize the RAN performance, such as media access control scheduler, loading balance, etc. But the detailed mechanisms of the eNodeB configurations are usually very complicated and not disclosed, not to mention the large KPIs space needed to be considered. These make constructing simulator, offline tuning, or rule-based solutions difficult. We aim to build an intelligent controller without strong assumption or domain knowledge about the RAN and can run for 24/7 without supervision. To achieve this goal, we first build a closed-loop control testbed RAN in a lab environment with one eNodeB provided by one of the largest wireless vendors and four smartphones. Next, we build a double Q network agent that is trained with the live feedbacks of the key performance indicators from the RAN. Our work proved the effectiveness of applying deep reinforcement learning to improve network performance in a real RAN network environment.
