Abstract Xingguang-III is a large hybrid optical parametric amplification/chirped pulse amplification laser that outputs synchronized femtosecond, picosecond, and nanosecond beams with three different wavelengths, i.e., 800, 1053, and 527 nm, respectively. We present here an in-house front-end system design that generates the 1053 nm seed laser for the ps/ns beam directly from the 800 nm femtosecond laser, which enables the three beams to have intrinsic synchronization. The results show that a seed laser of 140 μJ energy and 1053 nm central wavelength with 34 nm spectral width (FWHM) is generated and the shot-to-shot timing jitter (peak-to-valley) between the fs and the ps beam is less than 1.32 ps.

Abstract The multiple nomenclature systems of SARS-CoV-2 are confusing and have several issues. The emergence of variants of concern and variants of interest has posed an increased risk to global health. To assist with public discussion and communication with nonscientific audiences about significant mutations, and ultimately to inform the ongoing response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we scientists need to develop easy-to-pronounce and nonstigmatizing labels for significant mutations.

Abstract The Omicron SARS-CoV-2 variant was potentially generated from a chronically infected COVID-19 patient vaccinated with an messenger RNA (mRNA)- or non-mRNA-based vaccine, offering the opportunity for the virus to evolve and mutate to evade the body's immune response. To understand the significance of this SARS-CoV-2 variant and what it means for the global response to the pandemic, vaccinologists should systematically evaluate the role of mRNA- and non-mRNA-based vaccines in the generation of novel SARS-CoV-2 variants, including variants of concerns (VOCs) and interest (VOIs), that occur via breakthrough vaccine-elicited immunity. Although COVID vaccine boosters are likely to offer some protection and mRNA- or non-mRNA-based vaccines can be adapted to new variants, such as Omicron, the requirement of a booster so soon after full vaccination, with further shots potentially required, is of concern given the impacts on human health. Therefore, in the race to protect the global population against novel SARS-CoV-2 VOCs and VOIs, there is an urgent need to create much more effective one-dose vaccines that can protect people over their entire lifetime.

Abstract Farmland rental market participation could improve rural factor allocation efficiency and increase household income, which affected residential energy consumption. Thus, the main goal of this paper was to study the impact of farmland rental market participation on residential energy consumption by using a data set that covered 5018 effective samples. Compared with the existing studies, the main contributions of this paper were that: (i) a systematic theoretical model for the relationship between farmland rental market participation and residential energy consumption was established, which expanded the research perspective; (ii) the instrumental variable (IV) approach, the endogenous switching regression model and the mediation effect model were used to test empirically the impact of farmland rental market participation on residential energy consumption, which enriched the research conclusions. The results indicated that: (i) compared with farm households without renting in land, residential energy consumption and electricity consumption for farm households with renting in land were significantly raised by 12.52% and 9.53%, respectively; (ii) expanding farm size decreased significantly the number of labor migration to urban areas by 16.31%, and expanding farm size boosted residential energy consumption by reducing the number of labor migration to urban areas; (iii) expanding farm size increased significantly household income by 7.68%, and expanding farm size raised residential energy consumption by raising household income. This study was conducive to not only enhancing the sustainable economic development, but also expanding and improving the research conclusions of the existing literature.

Abstract In this work, a novel nanozyme (Cu@Zr) with all-in-one dual enzyme and fluorescence properties is designed by simple self-assembly. A nanozyme cascade sensor with disodium phenyl phosphate (PPDS) as substrate was first established by exploiting the dual enzymatic activities of phosphatase and laccase. Specifically, phosphatase cleaves the P-O bond of PPDS to produce colorless phenol, which is then oxidized by laccase and complexed with the chromogenic agent 4-aminoantipyrine (4-AP) to produce red quinoneimine (QI). Strikingly, the NH

Abstract Metasurfaces hold great promise for terahertz (THz) chiral-optical devices. Here, we proposed a chiral THz metasurface with quasi-bound state in the continuum (BIC) for maximum chirality. By exploiting structural perturbations of the dipole displacement and the diverging angle for the THz metasurface, the symmetry-protected BIC transforms into quasi-BIC. The critical coupling condition is satisfied by the introduction of graphene, enabling the theoretical maximum absorption of the quasi-BIC. Subsequently, the perturbations are balanced to obtain maximum chirality. The numerical simulations show that the THz metasurface exhibits strong linear chirality with the circular dichroism (CD) of 0.99 at the quasi-BIC. Additionally, the chiral third harmonic generation (THG) is achieved, characterized by high efficiency up to 19% and strong THG-CD as high as 0.99. It is expected that the THz metasurfaces has great potential for applications in chiral sensing and imaging.
