    Abstract The "multi-component and multi-target" property of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) makes the quality control more difficult, which remains a key concern hindering the space of progress in its modernization and globalization. This study aims to provide a new strategy to discover quality markers related to the efficacy and stability of TCM based on the bioactive markers finding and differential markers finding, Guan-Xin-Jing capsule (GXJC) was used as a model. Firstly, the UHPLC-QTOF-MS/MS was performed to identify the chemical profiling of GXJC and 148 compounds were unequivocally or tentatively identified. Subsequently, the compounds with relatively low intensity, low oral bioavailability and unsuited drug likeness were removed. In addition, a network based approach by integrating candidate compound genes and disease genes was applied to further filter out the potential active compounds against coronary heart disease (CHD) and finally 7 compounds were identified as the potential bioactive markers. Moreover, to ensure the batch-to-batch consistency of GXJC, an untargeted UHPLC-QTOF-MS/MS based metabolomics approach and multivariate statistical analysis was performed and 5 compounds were identified as the potential differential markers to illustrate the discrepancy among 27 batches of GXJC. Using these strategies above, a total of 11 chemical compounds in GXJC were screened out as quality markers(Q-markers). The information generated with our strategy should be more helpful to guide the selection of the Q-markers and lay the foundation for quality control of TCM.

    Abstract Yi Guan Jian decoction is a traditional Chinese medicine formula noted in Wei Yu-huang's Xu Ming Yi Lei An (Supplement to the Classified Medical Records of Famous Physicians). Acne vulgaris and chronic pelvic inflammation could be successfully treated by the decoction following the principle of formula corresponding to syndromes. The identical characteristics of constitution are found among the patients treated by the decoction, known as the "Yi Guan Jian constitution". It indicates that patients can be treated according to the constitutional characteristics.

    Abstract In the present paper, more than 380 theses related with clinical application of "nine needling techniques", "twelve needling techniques" and "five needling techniques" recorded in chapter Guan Zhen (Official Needling Techniques) of Ling Shu (Spiritual Pivot) were found through retrieving the data in the internet in latest 10 years. Among the 130 theses about clinical application of "nine needling techniques", 108 involve the application of opposing needling. Of the 180 theses about clinical application of "twelve needling techniques", 95 involve the application of triple needling. Out of the 60 theses on clinical application of "five needling techniques", 37 involve the application of Hegu needling (multi-direction needling). To sum up, the above-mentioned needling techniques were mainly applied to the treatment of diseases of dermatology, surgery, pediatrics, traumatology, five sense organs, etc.. It indicates that these needling techniques are widely being used in clinical practice now. Therefore, researchers should lay the stress on the scientific methodology, rigorous research process, as well as objective analysis of the results so as to make an objective conclusion and improve the level of the research.
