Abstract Background: To identify the differences of lumbar lordosis (LL) and sacral slope (SS) angles between two types of postoperative lumbar disc re-herniation, including the recurrence of same level and adjacent segment herniation (ASH).
Methods: We searched the medical records of lumbar disc herniation (LDH) patients with re-herniation with complete imaging data (n = 58) from January 1, 2013 to December 30, 2020 in our hospital. After matching for age and sex, 58 patients with LDH without re-herniation from the same period operated by the same treatment group in our hospital were served as a control group. Re-herniation patients were divided into two groups, same-level recurrent lumbar disc herniation group (rLDHG) and adjacent segment herniation group with or without recurrence (ASHG). The preoperative, postoperative and one month after operation LL and SS were measured on standing radiographs and compared with the control group by using t-test, ANOVA, and rank-sum test. Next, we calculated the odds ratios (ORs) by unconditional logistic regression, progressively adjusted for other confounding factors.
Results: Compared with the control group, the postoperative LL and SS were significantly lower in LDH patients with re-herniation. However, there were no differences in LL and SS between ASHG and rLDHG at any stage. After progressive adjustment for confounding factors, no matter what stage is, LL and SS remained unassociated with the two types of re-herniation.
Conclusions: Low postoperative LL and SS angles are associated with degeneration of the remaining disc. Low LL and SS may be independent risk factors for re-herniation but cannot determine type of recurrence (same or adjacent disc level).

Abstract Chemokines and chemokine receptors are indispensable to play a key role in the development of malignant tumors. As one of the most widely expressed chemokine receptors, chemokine (C-X-C motif) receptor 4 (CXCR4) has been a popular research focus. In most tumors, CXCR4 expression is significantly upregulated. Moreover, integrated nuclide diagnosis and therapy targeting CXCR4 show great potential. [

Abstract Background: A remarkable drop in tuberculosis (TB) incidence has been achieved in China, although in 2019 it was still considered the second most communicable disease. However, TB's spatial features and risk factors in urban areas remain poorly understood. This study aims to identify the spatial differentiations and potential influencing factors of TB in highly urbanized regions on a fine scale.
Methods: This study included 18 socioeconomic and environmental variables in the four central districts of Guangzhou, China. TB case data obtained from the Guangzhou Institute of Tuberculosis Control and Prevention. Before using Pearson correlation and a geographical detector (GD) to identify potential influencing factors, we conducted a global spatial autocorrelation analysis to select an appropriate spatial scales.
Results: Owing to its strong spatial autocorrelation (Moran's I = 0.33, Z = 4.71), the 2 km × 2 km grid was selected as the spatial scale. At this level, TB incidence was closely associated with most socioeconomic variables (0.31 < r < 0.76, P < 0.01). Of five environmental factors, only the concentration of fine particulate matter displayed significant correlation (r = 0.21, P < 0.05). Similarly, in terms of q values derived from the GD, socioeconomic variables had stronger explanatory abilities (0.08 < q < 0.57) for the spatial differentiation of the 2017 incidence of TB than environmental variables (0.06 < q < 0.27). Moreover, a much larger proportion (0.16 < q < 0.89) of the spatial differentiation was interpreted by pairwise interactions, especially those (0.60 < q < 0.89) related to the 2016 incidence of TB, officially appointed medical institutions, bus stops, and road density.
Conclusions: The spatial heterogeneity of the 2017 incidence of TB in the study area was considerably influenced by several socioeconomic and environmental factors and their pairwise interactions on a fine scale. We suggest that more attention should be paid to the units with pairwise interacting factors in Guangzhou. Our study provides helpful clues for local authorities implementing more effective intervention measures to reduce TB incidence in China's municipal areas, which are featured by both a high degree of urbanization and a high incidence of TB.

Abstract Industrialization in riparian areas of critical rivers has caused significant environmental and health impacts. Taking eight industrial parks along the middle Yangtze River as examples, this study proposes a multiple-criteria approach to investigate soil heavy metal pollution and associated ecological and health risks posed by industrial activities. Aiming at seven heavy metals, the results show that nickel (Ni), cadmium (Cd), and copper (Cu) exhibited the most significant accumulation above background levels. The comprehensive findings from Pearson correlation analysis, cluster analysis, principal component analysis, and industrial investigation uncover the primary sources of Cd, arsenic (As), mercury (Hg), and lead (Pb) to be chemical processing, while Ni and chromium (Cr) are predominantly derived from mechanical and electrical equipment manufacturing. In contrast, Cu exhibits a broad range of origins across various industrial processes. Soil heavy metals can cause serious ecological and carcinogenic health risks, of which Cd and Hg contribute to >70 % of the total ecological risk, and As contributes over 80 % of the total health risk. This study highlights the importance of employing multiple mathematical and statistical models in determining and evaluating environmental hazards, and may aid in planning the environmental remediation engineering and optimizing the industry standards.

Abstract Bistable polymer composite structures are morphing shells that can change shape and maintain two stable configurations. At present, mainly two types of bistable polymer composite structures are being studied: cross-ply laminates and antisymmetric cylindrical shells. This paper proposes a unified semianalytical model based on the extensible deformation assumption and nonlinear theory of plates and shells to predict bistability. Moreover, the higher-order theoretical model is extended for better prediction accuracy, while the number of degrees of freedom is not increased; this ensures a lower computational cost. Finally, based on these theoretical models, the main factors affecting the stable characteristic of the two bistable polymer composite structures are determined by comparing the models of various orders. The main challenges in describing the bistable behavior, such as bifurcation points and the curvatures of stable states, are addressed through prediction of the corner transversal displacement in stable configurations. The results obtained from the theoretical model are validated through nonlinear finite element analysis.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the clinical and microbiological characteristics of patients with KP BSI. Isolates were processed using Illumina NGS, and relevant bioinformatics analysis was conducted (multi-locus sequence typing, serotype, phylogenetic reconstruction, detection of antibiotic resistance, and virulence genes). A logistic regression model was used to evaluate the risk factors of hosts and causative KP isolates associated with 30-day mortality in patients infected with KP BSI.
Results: Of the 79 eligible patients, the 30-day mortality rate of patients with KP BSI was 30.4%. Multivariate analysis showed that host-associated factors (increased APACHE II score and septic shock) were strongly associated with increased 30-day mortality. For the pathogenic factors, carriage of

Abstract Riboswitches are conserved regulatory RNA elements participating in various metabolic pathways. Recently, a novel RNA motif known as the folE RNA motif was discovered upstream of folE genes. It specifically senses tetrahydrofolate (THF) and is therefore termed THF-II riboswitch. To unravel the ligand recognition mechanism of this newly discovered riboswitch and decipher the underlying principles governing its tertiary folding, we determined both the free-form and bound-form THF-II riboswitch in the wild-type sequences. Combining structural information and isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) binding assays on structure-based mutants, we successfully elucidated the significant long-range interactions governing the function of THF-II riboswitch and identified additional compounds, including alternative natural metabolites and potential lead compounds for drug discovery, that interact with THF-II riboswitch. Our structural research on the ligand recognition mechanism of the THF-II riboswitch not only paves the way for identification of compounds targeting riboswitches, but also facilitates the exploration of THF analogs in diverse biological contexts or for therapeutic applications.

Abstract The growth of every nation is its ability to improve every sector of the economy that provides better outcomes through revenue mobilization and investment. With the Ghana’s attention shifted to tourism, it is imperative to identify how tourism could trigger growth in the country. Thus, the study sought to examine the causal relationship between tourism and economic growth of Ghana and its related challenges. The study adopted a mixed method approach in the collection and analysis of data. Both secondary and primary data were used in the analysis of the study. In analyzing the quantitative study, data on tourism and GDP from 1987 to 2018 were used. The study adopted the Johansen Cointegration test and the instrumental variable estimation to identify the causal relationship among the variables. The outcome of the study from the Johansen and Co-integration test instrumental variable showed that there is a unidirectional causal relationship between tourism receipt and GDP growth both in the short run and the long run and a positive significant effect of tourism on economic growth of Ghana. The result showed that government has been the major contributor to the sector. Also, the most challenging issue curtailing the sector was found to be the issue of the COVID 19 pandemic. As such, the study recommended that ensuring public-private partnership could improve the sector to ensure growth in the economy. Further extensive research is required to understand the effects of tourism on host communities.
