La progresiva entrada de personas en recintos cerrados por trabajo u ocio, en pleno verano, y el uso de instalaciones de climatización genera cierta desconfianza y miedo por una posible propagación del virus.

Muchos hogares lo han visto claro: ¡pongamos una piscina en la terraza! Las terrazas han sido el espacio estrella de este confinamiento. Ahora surge una nueva forma de explotarlas, colocando piscinas hinchables o desmontables. Sus ventas se han disparado en el último mes. Pero ¿es seguro tomar esta decisión? ¿entraña algún riesgo?

    Abstract Durante la crisis sanitaria de COVID-19, gran parte de la población española se ha visto en la necesidad de teletrabajar desde casa. El teletrabajo bien planteado incrementa la productividad y la satisfacción general. Sus efectos sobre la salud parecen ser generalmente más positivos que negativos. Esta modalidad ya era tendencia en España, esporádicamente o como alternativa de conciliación. La situación de confinamiento ha irrumpido en esta conquista paulatina del teletrabajo, instaurándolo como norma general en la medida de lo posible. Pero… ¿están las viviendas preparadas? ¿Cómo están respondiendo los hogares españoles al hecho de trabajar desde casa?

    Abstract Con la crisis sanitaria de la COVID-19, la vivienda se ha convertido en refugio seguro y único espacio de convivencia, trabajo, ocio y desarrollo de actividades ordinarias y extraordinarias para todos los miembros del hogar. Pero la experiencia no está resultando igual de agradable para todos. Esta pandemia ha reabierto viejos debates, como las características mínimas de las viviendas. También ha generado otros, como la explotación de zonas comunes, el aprovechamiento de espacios infrautilizados, la adecuación a nuevas exigencias de aislamiento social e higiene o el derecho universal a internet.

    • habitabilidad y confort en viviendas y otros edificios (nuevo y rehabilitación)

    • funcionalidad, técnica e innovación,

    • criterios sociales, medioambientales (sostenibles) y de salud, con especial atención a grupos vulnerables.

    Este estudio se engloba en la Plataforma Temática Insterdisciplinar (PTI) Salud Global del CSIC, creada para agrupar toda la investigación generada en relación con la COVID-19. Se encuadra en el subgrupo de impacto social. Validado por el Comité de Ética del CSIC y Dpto. Protección de Datos.

    Abstract A medida que avanza la pandemia por COVID-19, vamos conociendo más sobre las vías de transmisión del SARS-CoV-2. La Sociedad Estadounidense de Ingenieros de Calefacción, Refrigeración y Aire Acondicionado (ASHRAE), ya declaraba respecto a la transmisión del SARS-CoV-2 por vía aérea que resultaba “lo suficientemente probable” como para que esta vía debiera ser controlada. A su vez, sugería que determinados “cambios en el funcionamiento de edificios, incluidos el de los sistemas e instalaciones de climatización, calefacción y ventilación pueden reducir las exposiciones por vía aérea”[1]. Recientemente, la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) [2] reconocía que, bajo determinadas circunstancias, la transmisión de la COVID-19 podía ocurrir no sólo por contacto directo entre sujetos, sino a través del aire, mediante los gotículas y aerosoles generados al respirar, hablar, toser, estornudar, gritar, o cantar, por ejemplo. Las principales rutas [3] posibles de transmisión del SARS-CoV-2 consensuadas son: contacto directo; gotículas; núcleos de gotículas; contacto indirecto, a través del depósito de los anteriores sobre superficies u objetos, denominados “fómites”; y transmisión fecal-oral. Al reconocerse más abiertamente esta vía de transmisión aérea, ha surgido una gran inquietud derivada del uso de la climatización en espacios cerrados.

    Abstract Climate change is causing serious damage to natural and social systems, as well as having an impact on human health. Among the direct effects of climate change is the rise in global surface temperatures and the increase in the frequency, duration, intensity and severity of heat waves. In addition, understanding of the adaptation process of the exposed population remains limited, posing a challenge in accurately estimating heat-related morbidity and mortality. In this context, this study seeks to establish a conceptual framework that would make it easier to understand and organise knowledge about human adaptation to heat and the factors that may influence this process. An inductive approach based on grounded theory was used, through the analysis of case studies connecting concepts. The proposed conceptual framework is made up of five components (climate change, vulnerability, health risks of heat, axes of inequality and health outcomes), three heat-adaptation domains (physiological, cultural and political), two levels (individual and social), and the pre-existing before a heat event. The application of this conceptual framework facilitates the assistance of decision-makers in planning and implementing effective adaptation measures. Recognizing the importance of addressing heat adaptation as a health problem that calls for political solutions and social changes. Accordingly, this requires a multidisciplinary approach that would foster the participation and collaboration of multiple actors for the purpose of proposing effective measures to address the health impact of the rise in temperature.

    Abstract Confinement was adopted globally as a containment measure to face the COVID pandemic declared by WHO on March 2020. In Spain, the State of Alarm was established for three months. This implied the interruption of educational activities, having a higher incidence for children, since teaching would not be resumed until the following academic year, in September. This, together with the confusing initial information about COVID-19 transmission between children and their families, has made them one of the groups most vulnerable. In this study, a qualitative approach is made to secondary school students (aged 12). They were asked to share their experiences about confinement from the perspective of the home spaces, in relation to two main tasks relevant in this period: the tele-study and their relaxing time and well-being. Using images and narratives with an abstract and emotional description, the response of 46 children was obtained. A sentiment analysis was carried out from their testimonies. Results suggest a greater availability of tele-study spaces with daylighting, mainly in bedrooms, with laptops. For leisure and rest spaces, sofas, beds, and cohabitant gathering were preferred. Written testimonials were mainly positive. Housing features and family cohesion condition their resilience in situations of uncertainty, like confinement.
